Oh, well.  Good news just doesn't sell papers. '<img'>

I've stopped watching the news because all off it is negative.  I just don't need it in my life and it really gives you a warped view of the world.

It amazes me that anyone takes an article in Vanity Fair or a show on MTV seriously.  Neither claim to be serious, unbiased news sources. But, some people actually believe the weekly world news.

Nost news sources are looking for something to exploit to boost ratings.  But I was pleasently suprised to read this one: http://riverfronttimes.com/issues/2003-06-11/news.html/1/index.html

Thanks for posting this WhiteShepherd.  It's always nice to see a positive article on the fandom.

Not everyone outside the fandom has a negative view of us.  Glen Echo national park near DC invited several of the local fursuiters to come and be part of the entertainment for the reopening of the merry goround that was just refurbished.  So the US goverment called on some furs to help entertain the crowd.

Hmm.. I don't know. As much as it does touch base on the good stuff, it still seems to have this little voice underneath it that seems to be bashing the Furry Fandom.

I don't know, Perhaps I'm just paranoid, lol. ^_^

I agree that there is a bit of sarcasm tossed in there, Jadnar.
Seems like this isn't a very highly distributed newspaper, though. From what I've seen, only some of the smaller publications have given furry any sort of chance at looking good. This article isn't the first of them, of course. Hopefully, it won't be the last.
We'll have to keep our eyes open for when Castro's next episode on furry hits the airwaves. I'm sure we'll hear all about it when it does finally air. ':p'

It did  spend a good bit of time on the sex aspect, but it also seemed to be saying that media hasn't given a balanced portral since it only focuses on a small part of the fandom.

I just wish people would get over the sexual hangups and stop judging others because their tastes are different.  As Shakespeare said "I doth believe you protest to much...".  Basically the people who rally against it so much, must secretly be jealous of us who are open to explore new things.  ''

When I went to an annual meeting of the Mid-Atlantic Sociey of Children's Books Writers and Illustrators, I proudly told my fellow authors and illustrators that I not only do furry art but that I am a furry.  Some really seemed to be interested in learning beyond Vanity Fair and Plushies and Furries.  Others I do believed questioned my sanity, but that's okay.  I've never been normal, pre and post finding my furry side. Reading the article gave me the impresion that who ever wrote it was trying not too seem too serious about the subject either for fear of ridicule for writing about it seriously or because they themselves found it a bit of a farce. There are some good points made about the good work that furrys do supporting charitys and that we just usualy have fun. There is no mention though of what the fandom means to the people in depth though. Reading it through it does seem to be heavly laced with sexual referances and for the most part needlesly so. For an article on furrys it did seem to have potential but it seems to have been ruined by over stating the sex aspect Ok that is one part of furrydom but I do not think it is the be all and end all of it but not as this article surgests something we wave banner like from the roof tops or want to thrust under people's noses. There is positive in there you have to dig for it though and most people would probaly stop reading after the plushie gag  ':p'  ( erg sorry folks this just caught me at a bad time and I felt like winging and this seemed an appropriate target  '<img'>  )

I'm not sure.  Although the reporter does talk about the good that furries have done, he still wants to harp on the sexual side of the fandom.  He's sadly missing out on the other parts of the fandom that have nothing to do with sex.

Oh, well.  Good news just doesn't sell papers. '<img'>
