*MERFLE* Can't make up my mind.
« on: March 03, 2003, 08:25:54 pm »
Maybe I'm just goin' nuts. Twouldn't be the first time.

I feel like every other day I'm a new species...well...not new, really. Some days, I'm a roocoon, other days I'm a plain coon.

I lik 'em both...the coon more, sometimes, just because he seems to fit me. But everyone seems to think my hybrid is original...and almost as cute as my wolfy bro. *hugs Patrick*

I have mostly art of the roocoon, he's apparently a lot of fun to draw; whereas the coon is just a coon...I dunno. Everyone else seems to connected with their species.
Am I going crazy?
Or am I just afraid of being plain?

Your rambling razzled coon.

You're not going crazy, Kit.   This is something I've been poking around with myself.  I know I'm some kind of feline...  the question is, which?  Right now I'm sticking with lioness, but there are days when I'm not so sure.

I'm not too worried about it...  It's kinda like my deal with religion.  When I know enough, then I'll know which one is right and that's that.  '<img'>

Kit, I wouldn't worry too much...when I joined the fandom I called myself a fox. After a few weeks I decided that the fox quite simply wasn't sexy enough for me, so I got a "species change" and became a wolf.

...And a few weeks later I developed an interest in big, sexy, powerful felines...you know, leopards, cheetahs, panthers and so on. I'm still a wolf, though.

But no, you're not going crazy, a lot of furs I know have had trouble deciding on a species.

You could always just play both, too.
I started out with the character Simba, a lion (of course), back in 1994 when I first got into the fandom, but in 1997 I decided go for something a bit more distinct and reflective of my adoration for both lions and tigers... and came up with the liger character. I put my RL name on him since he's my personal fur, and also for artist copyright reasons.
There's no rule stating that you need to be one or the other, though. I still have furs that only know me as Simba, the lion.

Kitcoon. No, you are not going crazy like the others have stated. I for one have many species within me. Who I am on a particular day/hour really depends on my mood. My main character though is the pegasus. I love horses and I love being able to fly. Though for this pegasus in RL has a terrible fear of heights!  '<img'>

I did find out through the years playind Kada-Ru on Furry Muck that I did indeed have other personality animals. It was a real shocker to realize that but I am now comfortable with whomever I am at the time.

You will be too and there is nothing wrong with being more than just one fursona.

Good luck in whatever you may be at any given moment!

From what I understand about furries, a lot of them do not have a species they stick to.  Whether this be by choice or not differs.  I think most furs that are undecided are a different kind of fur to those that are certain about what they are.  But this is just how I view the furry realm - not really being a fur does help to see things differently, though I do understand that I may not have a clear view of things in the eyes of a fur, if you get what I mean.  So, how does this effect you?  Well, it's difficult to say, really.  From personal experience, I've never had any problem knowing what I am.  But what I would suggest to you is to think of it not that you are unsure of what creature you are, but that you are an individual, and are the only being in the world in the past, now, or in the future that lives, or will live the same life as you, and have your feelings, if you know what I mean.  You may find that you, like a lot of furs, are a mix of more than one species.  I think that's fine - it shows a mixture of personalities and feelings within one being, though you're probably more fortunate than myself, and be able to have them live together well without conflict - I'm sure many manage that.  Anyway, I'm rambling on again.  I hope I've made some sort of sense in this post.  There must be a good point in it somehere.

Hmmm.. Agreed.

In the past I was Thinking that I was either a cat, canine, or a reptile. For awhile there I was juggling between a Canine and a reptile. Even before I became involved with the furry fandom. after I got into the fandom I found that mixes could be made. What a novilty, lol. So I became a Dragon-Wolf for awhile there. But I quickly popped out of that.

Though Very recently I found I was something else. Something that I never even considered! I'm a horse. You could probubly imagine my surprise having thought I was a wolf or a reptile, but an equine? How did I not see it? Its like you found out water is wet, *Thwaks head for such stupidity*.

I know exactly how you feel I felt I had to choose one, but then found that I could morph between or make a new hybrid of my verey own.  I guess the easy thing is to be what you are at that moment.

I probably don't need to tell you you're not going crazy.  As already stated, lots of us have undergone changes in preference in our time in the fandom.  None of our fursonas are permanent; their just what we see ourselves as for the moment.  God only knows how many fursonas I've had in the past (it was a long buildup to the blue-furred tiger, believe you me). Everyones aloud too be crazy sometimes ( for me it's 24 years n counting  '<img'>    ) But you seem sane enough you'll find a fur which feels right and as some here have shown you can be more than one. I thought I may have been a horse, due too many reasons. But eventualy I found that a bear suited me better. Now though I can figure out what type polar grizzly ect.. ect.. It ain't easy being a furry  '<img'>    . Don't worry Kit you'll find you're furry side.

I always had trouble deciding between the Wolf and the Red Panda, but reading this thread I realize that maybe it's not really important to categorize yourself, but to express yourself. Is it really a good idea to "make up your mind" then, if your mind is constantly reacting to what happens in your life? If a fursona is an expression of one's innermost feelings, then maybe it is not so strange to switch species now and again, or even often. Does that make any sense? I hope I didn't just say something stupid for my first post...

You didn't say anything stupid, Admiral Purge, and you make perfect sense. In fact there are several furs that feel the same way. They aren't just one species all the time. Then there are those that are. I for one have many species to my personality. Depending on how I feel.

I, myself, feel that if a furson FEELS many different species within him/herself there is nothing wrong with you.

If you don't want to decide on just one fursona, then don't. Enjoy life and everything you can 'feel' within yourself!

I think I understand what you're saying, Admiral Purge.  You're saying that our feelings and emotions change all the time, and with that, some people use different species to reflect it.  So, for example, if someone feels happy, they may feel more cat, whereas if they feel more sad, they feel more wolf.  An interesting idea, which I am sure is true for some people.

When I had first entered the fandom, I had initially chosen feline. Though for a short while there, I had wondered about two other species: The Bird and the Dragon. It had taken me a little bit of time before I finally settled back on my initial choice, the feline.
Yeah, as a matter of fact I DO own the road . . . .

I know i dont really have a fixed species, im too restless and imaptient to remain the same for the too long, so i figured that im a polymorph, but my favorite shapes are a golden dragon and a fox...

I think many of us do try on different identities before finally gravitating to one, or in some cases several "regulars."  I began as a flying horse, then wolfed out for a while before settling into a vulp, where I've been now for years and am likely to remain.  Personally, I can't handle more than one fursona, but that's because I have a rather intense and comprehensive relationship with mine; it's what I need, and all that I need.  Even with a crystalized identity, I find that certain modifiers can still creep in from one day to the next, and color a bit how you'll act and feel.  Somedays, I'm rather cerebral, and at other times, cheerfully demented; both are just another side of me.  I also don't use my pyrokinesis as much as I did earlier.

While I am vulpine and happy with that, there remain in other species many commendable traits which one can always admire and feel drawn to, which is probably why we have hybrid beings as well.  All are worthy and certainly welcome, except of course for Barney the purple dinosaur...

My first fursona was a racoon.  He only lasted a month or so.  My second fursona was first created on Furcadia.  I was going to be a pure skunk, but skunk was not an avatar choice that they had.  So I picked feline and colored the avatar in a way that it was very skunk like.

I know identify heavily with my fursona and don't see it changing anytime soon.  It's the picture I have in my mind when I think of myself as Drake.

A kangaroo raccoon is an interesting combination.  Don't worry what others think about it, just have fun being the best roocoon you can.

i think you should just ask some of your friends that have not seen this post what kind of animal best represents you. i did this, but i didn't like the outcome so i just took the opposite, all of my friends said i was a sloth - slow, fat, lazy, and not being very active, but i didn't like it so i went for the fast, thin, agile approach. you could be one thing and if you don't like it then you can always change.
