Okay heres one. I hope you like it..

Part 1 - The Begining

I heard the baying of the wolf,
Its savage, mournful call,
That carried from the distant hill
Beyond the crumbling wall.
It howled its story to the moon
Of lustful appetites---
A song lamenting ravished kills
On former star-lit nights.
Next day I rose up early with
The glory of the sun;
I signed the scrolls and thought anew
Of new feats that must be done.
But, walking down the dusty path,
I clearly saw the mark
Of footprints I had left last night
While strolling in the dark.
Then up ahead.....they disappeared.....
And in their place I saw
Their stride decidedly exchanged
By spoor of padded paw.
I stared in dazed confusion for
This simply could not be,
Until I realized the truth---
That mighty wolf was me!

Feel free to share your poetry!  It's a part of you and there IS an audience here. '<img'>

This is Furtopia. We are all furs from so many everyday walks of life. What's important is that we enjoy sharing and understanding each other. We have not quieted up like so many other members of society because they don't recite the same as an English major. We share because we feel there is something unique in every individual heart to be heard. We listen because we enjoy listening when others have something sincere to share.  We enjoy seeing you as unique. '<img'>

If someone feels what we are doing is wrong, there are millions of other internet sites they can go to. This is no home for trolling or preying on the emotions of others. It will not be permitted here.

I dug up another of my old writtings and laughed when I read it. This is back when I was in a website competition called The Site Wars. I was on the Darksbane Dragons team with my site, Purrrring_Dragon's Lair, and we had a message board to post roars/shouts of team spirit. Then there came a time when some teams got mischieviously competetive on the board. This was my reply to one from The Bunnies team.

*dances cheerleader style with pom-poms as she chants* <giggle!>

Razor Retribution!

Something's different, not the same.
Us dragons woke to find a change.
DaEvil Bunny and his gangs,
Have gone and stole our precious fangs!

Rage and shock have rocked the lairs,
To find those sneaky rabbits and hares,
Have dared to tamper with our teeth.
Perhaps they need to learn our heat!

Some may think it's time to stew,
A furry cottontail or two.
Some may think that we should bite,
But that would just not be right.

Dragons! Dragons! Gather Now!
The time to battle is nigh.
We cannot, will not, ever allow,
This crime to slip on by.

DaEvilBunny and his crew,
Will learn to keep their paws,
Hopping fast as they can do,
Away from dragon claws.

When next he thinks to try to slip,
Into our private homes.
A small reminder I will clip,
Upon his furry nose.

The Dragons will not hold a pose,
While Bunnies loft a prize.
We'll use our voice like a hose,
To wash off his disguise.

Then like the fiend he really is,
The crowds will see him bare.
The truth of him, we see tis,
A rat beneath the hare.

Exit our peaceful homes!
Leave and don't come back!
We'll beat them in the lofty Domes,
And never pause attack.

We'll bellow smoke and firey soot.
And show a nasty face.
With voices raised we'll gladly put,
The bunnies in their place.

So get up Dragons! Show your stuff!
We'll Dance and sing 'till late.
With our noise, our huff and puff,
We'll keep the bunnies awake.

Then as they drift and fall asleep,
A clipper shall arise,
To clip those cottontails and keep,
Them as a fuzzy prize.

One of my first efforts at furry poetry. Not my best, but likely the most real.

Beast behind the glass

Sharpened claws and searching eyes
Trap me through the glass
A sidelong glance was all it took
To freeze me as I passed
A frightened fox cowers in
The trap with jaws of steel
The maw of death, the blood of life
The strike to an even keel
I lock the eyes of this creature wild
And know they are my own
In forest green and river mild
I sniff and find my home
And still I stare into these eyes
As I have done before
Searching my reflection
In eyes that me explore
Who am I you untamed thing
And what blood do we share
How are man and beast so bound
With shackles made of air
It smiles softly as a friend
And I smile back
It welcomes me to come with him
And run among the pack
The grass, the earth, the sun and stars
The footfalls in the breeze
They call to me, but my heart
Is scared to leave the trees
I slowly turn and leave him there
With a deft deflection
And think about the things I saw
In my own reflection

An old one, but one of my favourites.

tail high, white on red on sky
drifting soundless through a cityscape of swaying grass
questing for the step between man and beast
     dark and light
       paws
     touch the ground
hand over foot over claw over rough black pads
russet fur rustling grass, chasing something not found
tail high, white on red on sky

Night Flight

I stand on the edge of a cliff
The wind blows through the canyon
and up to ruffel my fur as I raise my head to the sky.

The full moon throws of it's warm light
I smile and turn my back to the cliffs edge
I fold my arms in front of me
and fall backwards.

Down I fall into the blackness of the night
until the right moment
I unfurl my wings and catch the wind
that was once, only moving my fur
which now picks me up on it's back
and carries me into the sky.

I spread my wings full
and soar towards the moon
riding on the back of the wind
like the birds, I am now being held
by natures hand, as she holds me tight
making sure I never fall out of her grasp.

I turn and fly out over the trees,
looking down to see what animals I can see
a few lone birds see me and take off,
they join me and together we take the night sky.

Oh, how nice the wind feels
as it smooths out my fur
and rubs along my wings
how free I feel, not being held to the earth.

I thank the birds that joined me
for my night of release, and joy
I return back to the cliff, where I started
and land in a little cloud of dust, that picks up
as my wings slow my fall.

I turn around and fold my wings back in
I look up at the moon and smile
thanking it for providing me
with the light needed to make my fly
I walk into the forest, and wait for the next night
when nature is willing to pick me up,
and once again, deliver me to the skies.

My apologia: Though I am an adherent of organized religion, classical paganism has always held a deep fascination for me, especially the anthropomorphic gods such as Pan and Cernunnos and their actual portrayal in the ancient legends as forces of nature.  (For two  excellent examples of what I mean, read C. S. Lewis' Till We Have Faces, or Robert Holdstock's Mythago Wood.)

Here's my own attempt to communicate my fascination.

The Great God Pan
by C. Alan Loewen
ALL RIGHTS RESERVED

The night echoed
A choir of crickets
Accented by an
Aroma of earth.
The moon washed
The forest clean.

She ignored my protests
Against the chill,
The night, this vigil
Among the trees.

"Do you believe in
Wonder?" she asked.
I easily lie.
"I lack imagination."

Her eyes reflected the
Moon. She said, "In my
Eighth year, I saw him
Among the trees, clothed
In autumn leaves; hair
Red as autumn apples; eyes
Like autumn frost.”

"We should be home,” I
Laughed, “with gossip
And friends. Forget this
Forest, forget these dreams."
I left her standing
Encompassed by
Trees and moonlight.

We found her fused
Into the bark of an oak,
Taken in a wooden embrace,
A gentle smile on her lips.

Does it need to make direct furry references, or can it just be about what furry means to us?

As an example, I have a poem that in no way mentiones furry, but is pretty much all about the philosophy I developed out of being a furry.  Would that suffice?

Ok just when I need it my brain bailes out on me. (luckly I have a spare if only I could think where I put it DOH!!'<img'>
But heres a quick one I would like too put in thanking what or who ever gives us the ideas.
For all our muses

For Imagination

My muse is a big brown bear
You may think me crazy but I don't care,
and at three in the morning he tip-toes in.
so quietly you could hear a dropped pin
He silently bides his time till when,
He shuffles too my bedside my own little den.
He put's his great muzzle to my ear,
And starts whispering jokes to ease my fear.
He tells me we're the same not body but soul
So now there we sit wide awake with no goal.
And all the ideas in the world but just too sleepy
Now most would consider this creepy
Lying there with a bear so close at hand
But being there I learn so much nothings bland
My muse is a bear and he choose me,
It's because says he so alike are we.

:glare:   Ok it's not grade A stuff but Im working on a few more never fear.

If A good classic bit of poetry is what you want I have always liked the one part from

 WALT WHITMANS- SONG OF MYSELF

I think I could turn and live awhile with the animals...they are so placid and self-contained,
I stand and look at them sometimes half the daylong.
They do not sweat and whine about their condition,
They do not lie awake in the dark and weep for there sins,
They do not make me sick discussing their duty to God,
Not one is dissatisfied..not one is demented with the mania of owning things,
Not one kneels to another nor to his kind that lived thousands of years ago,
Not one is respectable or industrious over the whole earth.
So they show me their relations to me and I accpt them;
They bring me tokens of myself...they evince them plainly in their possession.
All I want too do is leave paw prints in the sands of time. (Garfield)
To be forgotten is worse than death (Freya)
We are all equal in the fandom. ( WhiteFang good fur and friend )

Terastas: Yes you may post your poem.  It's relationship to Furry will be determined by the judges.  We understand sometimes something fits so well.  I have written a few poems that do not say "furry".  But they do reflect my feelings as one. '<img'>

Alrighty... here's one I wrote recently inspired by Allen Kitchen's excellent furry short story, "When You Return" (accessible at http://arak.cs.hro.nl/StoryAr....lsy.zip ). I took the idea and went my own direction with it, but I'm pretty happy with the results. Hope y'all like it!

Grey Wolf

There he is again, shuffling
down the sidewalk out my window.
He slows, then stops,
pulling a pen and a small notebook
from his left coat pocket.
I make the decision, and finally
head outside to join him.
He is surprised, but smiles,
and says my company is welcome.
We begin to walk, and his paw catches
momentarily on his left coat pocket
as he puts away the notebook.
I ask him what the notebook is for,
and he smiles, chuckles, and
tells me he’s a poet.
Really, I say, I’ve just begun
to try my paw at writing myself.
But I realize that noise is his right coat pocket,
chinking with every other step.
Before I can ask, we stop
and I receive my answer. He pulls three pennies
from his right coat pocket
and flips them onto the driveway of a run-down house.
Presents for the cubs, he says.
We continue on, chink, step, chink, step,
then stop,
and again he flips three pennies
from his right coat pocket
onto another driveway of another dingy house.
I smile and ask him why he does this.
It was a whim one day, he says,
and she saw me do it,
and that’s why we fell in love.
Chink, step, chink, step,
past the nice houses, stopping at the weathered ones.
Chink, step, chink, step,
and I finally work up the nerve
to ask him who she is.
He smiles and looks down,
silent,
and we continue down the road
by the park, to the tree
with a small white cross planted in its shade.
We stop
and he looks heavenward.
This is where she died, he says,
run off the road, in a car accident,
four years ago.
We were married for fifty-one years.
I smile and look down,
and after a few moments,
we turn to go.
Chink, step, chink, step.
I accompany him from his pilgrimage,
past my house, all the way back to his.
I tell him I’ll come and visit,
and he smiles and says, That’s alright.
I turn to go
and place my paws in my pockets
as I begin to return home.
My left paw catches
momentarily, but my right discovers
three forgotten pennies.
Continuing along, on a whim, I stop
and flip the three pennies
onto the driveway of a run-down house.
Across the road, she stops,
and her eyes meet mine.

I know this doesn't sound furry-related, but I thought the viewpoint of the poem reflected what sound like common furry values and viewpoints.  The title is simply: "?"

"?"

Preaching Dominance
Praying to God give the world to you
To do as you choose
Nothing to gain and everything to lose
Now think it through
What would you do

Preaching Anarchy
Praying to God the system will die
Would you want it that way
How long would you expect to survive
When one fateful day
Order blows away

Preaching Armageddon
Praying to God the world will undo
But what if it should
Will you stay to your past teachings true
I doubt that you would
None of us could

I hope this doesn't break any of the a fore mentioned rules...I like it, and it's a very emotional piece for me...not bluntly furry, but I hope it's acceptable anyhow

----

My Dream

I dream above the ragged earth,
I hope beyond the seas,
Waters deep, and glittering blue,
They hold no call for me.

I reach beyond the mountain tops,
Through the dark’ning mirror of night,
Over snow and star-capped ice,
I see with truer sight.

'Dreams die hard' The old one said,
And it was truth that he did speak.
'Let the young, the pure of heart,
Fly past water, snow, and peak!'

I wish upon a golden star,
I know where destiny must lie,
A dream, a  hope, a single prayer,
And stretched before me is the sky!

A higher calling than the waves,
To see the heavens as more than a sign,
To touch; to know the clouds above...
To call all dreams mine!

OK last two for me ( I think unless i get hit by a sudden bolt of insperation)
I don't really put titles to my work guess I can edit it in after if i think of one.
here we go then

Something is diffrent today
Somethings changed since yesterday.
Although it seems a million years ago,
Knowing now has opend the world up so.
Walking along the same old street,
no more the grey mass's of shuffling feet.
For now faces colourful emerge form the crowd.
A wolf a lion over there a fox stands proud.
These faces now known and who know mine.
They have shown that life's still fine.
We have shared each other's innermost view's
Something the rest usualy wont choose.
The crowds oblivious still slip on by,
knowing nothing not seeing us animals pass by.

Quick little furry love poem everyone say ahhhhhh!
 '<img'>

Behind the human face.

Sometimes we wear masks, we have too hide reality.
I need no mask when Im with thee,
You need no mask when your with me.
So we leave behind two mask's we use too fool humanity.
And together we're free too explore our own Furality

hehe ok thats it 4 now the creativity tank seems too be running a little low of late, as usual will probably think up the greatest poem in the world. Until then this is just a tribute too the greatest poem in the world, you gotta belive me . '<img'>

(edited because Im a complete muppet)
(edited because Im still a steaming great twit )

Demonds was a song i wrote a while back, in poetry form the layout is a bit odd, yet poetry i find does not need a fixed format.

Demonds

I can honestly say now that I had my break from demonds screaming in my ear,
of things I wanted to hear

And i can honestly say now that I've fallen for you, Fallen to my knees,
I'm at your mercy, please don't step on me.

And all I wanted, all i needed was you
To stand before me, and say you needed me too
And All i needed was to forget about you...
But its the same old story;

How you took me into your arms streaming tears down your face,
I still believe i saved you from that place

But late at night when i hear you voice inside me calling foreve and ever
and i wonder; Whos going to save me from my own discrace?

and all i wanted, and all i needed was you,
to stand before me and say you needed me too,
and all i needed was to forget about you.

And now you find me lying on you contince fading, from all thought and dreams,
Like some great whisper longing to be free

Some part of me is trapped inside this feeling i want you forever and ever.
Imprisoned somewhere in my memories of you.

And all I wanted, and all i needed was you
to stand before me, and say you needed me too,
and all i needed, was to forget about you...

Another odd piece of work based on a dream I had of my furryness following a darken figure.

Memories

A place she hides
from the heat of the Furry mind
just disappears into the night.

Something keeps her coming back,
living in shadow all her life
A place she guards?

The Four corners lie,
As faces fade,
Don't care that your alive?

Will you remember who she was?
That i was there?
Living in shadows for so long.

Lightning Flashes, Full of fright
Shadows dance, Questions asked,
I need to know.

I feel the draw, she lost her soul
Madness behind those eyes
Get a grip, need Control.

It is Quiet, Trust who you can,
But cannot trust your eyes
It won't save your life.

Your hands are tied
Don't you care?
Don't you see?

You don't notice,
Or remember who I was, will you care?
or run and hide?

The memories fade into the past;
Feel the shame?
Torch the truth; Bare the pain

Okay... here's one more from me. This one is inspired by this picture done by Oakpaw. I enjoyed playing around with it. The title is adapted from the caption next to the picture on VCL. Here goes:

Alpha & Omega

Thunder?
No,
a slamming door
and angry voices from inside

Voices?
No,
just one, screaming
and a whimper
a mournful howl
a cry

Peering in, they peer back to me
Those eyes

Cornered, embryonic,
clutching and wronged.

I don't want to hear it!

Pitiful but not, they strain out towards me
Those eyes

Pained and violated, vilified but not seen
or heard
She shrinks heavenward
While he ascends to hell

But I am paralyzed
Those eyes

Roaring silence, detestably accompanied solitude

I        don't        care!

And darkness appears

And thunder?
No,
a slamming door

But still, I can see them
I know them
Those eyes

A couple weeks ago, I lost a 4-legged friend of mine to cancer.  It's not an uncommon occurrence, 50% of dogs over 10yrs will fall to the great beast.  I hope they find a cure soon.

The Great Beast

Crouching in the darkness, it waits
Silently in the shadows, it stalks
Waiting for a victim
For another soul to take
For another life to ruin
For another heart to break
It attacks without warning
Its wrath has no peer
No conscience No mercy No remorse No fear
It thinks none can harm it
That it can never die
“I am invincible” it shrieks “why do you even try”
But the day of reckoning approaches
A great hero has heard the call
The great beast will receive a mortal blow
This rancid scourge will fall

howls
