The Bittertart Melancholy

The Bittertart Melancholy

I'll tell you the tastiest fruit of all;
The bittertart melancholy.
While the bitter may bring your tongue to bawl,
the tart will jolt you jolly.

To find the fruit of this confounding taste,
First you must find the tree
That feeds off a mound of sorrow and waste,
And drinks from a teary sea.

Be wary when plucking your prize, I warn,
For winding around its rind
Are dozens, no hundreds of spiteful thorns
Eager to prick your mind.

When sinking your fangs in flesh of the fruit,
Be sure to avoid its seeds.
They'll fall in your stomach and slowly take root,
and grow into needful weeds.

So swim through the sea and march up the mound
To reach the tree it adorns.
Yes, there's a wonderful taste to be found
Hidden amidst its scorn.

So the idea for this came up a while ago, after my creative writing class had started. I had been thinking in class how much I liked the word "melancholy" because it always reminded me of some sort of fruit. Then I thought to myself, why not write a poem about what this fruit would taste like? So I ran from there and I really like how it turned out. I hope you do too.
