Title: Big Al (current topic: cute things!!)
Post by: Alexandre on November 16, 2008, 12:34:41 am
Heya, everyone!

Well, I figure I should introduce myself, at least.  My name is Alexandre de Britos Santoro, a name that originates from Portuguese (though many others call me Alex or Big Al).  I was born in the poor part of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil,  but was accidentally mailed to the U.S. in a card-board box (which also happened to be my home).  Luckily, a nice little family took me in, even if it was in Utah.

I'll have to write my biography some day.  :)

Anyway, I love English, and I really want to write.  I'm a horrible artist, but I enjoy writing.  A lot of my time will be dedicated to college for the next 40 bazillion years until I can finally teach English on the university level.  In other words, I'm never getting out of school.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.  I'm not scary, I swear...

Welcome to the team Al ^_^
Really glad to have you on board.  *Offers a cup of tea as per Kwan's design* >_>

We'll also require you to have a communication chip stuck in your brain so you can stay in contact with us all the time, so if you could come to my office around 5 pm tomorrow, that'd be great ^_^

Kwan, I think you know what my favorite tea is...
<.<

... and Blast slipped me a cup of it yesterday.  :)

Communication chip?  Wai... I don't wanna be a cyborg.  They already tried that on me in the Ukraine... I woke up with a dull headache and a burning city around me...

DON'T TRUST BLASTDAV! Knowing him, he'll probably turn you into a different color or offer you some terrible geneticaly enhanced cookies like he did in his staff thread.  >:(

That explains how you turned pink! Oh no wait, that was Blastdav's fault, I remember now. :D

Hey, it wasn't my fault!  I thought it was going to be a French cake-eating contest 'til someone with a beret smacked me over the head with a night stick...

Now that the purple seems to have mystically disappeared...

<.<
>.>

*builds a stand that says "Limerick for a Cookie" and sits behind it*

Come one!  Come all!  Specifically, come those with the cookies!  Behold the wonder, the spectacle, the limerick!

I laugh at those who doubt its power!  Ha ha!  The powers are so mystical, nobody can quite say what it does, but it is definitely.... existant.

Observe:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There once was a pink fox named Al
Who chased down a nice looking fowl.
  It went in a jacuzzi,
  And, feeling rather woozy,
He decided to throw in the towel.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ha!  Could you not feel the power!  Now, I'm giving them away for an incredible, irrefusable price of one cookie each!  So come, my friends, and behold the wonder of the limerick!
Title: Re: Big Al

Just one cookie? There's got to be a catch, right?
<.<
>.>
Title: Re: Big Al
Post by: Alexandre on November 30, 2008, 12:10:10 am
Catch?  Hmm... lemme see...

*unscrolls a rather large piece of parchment*

Alright, what do we have here... the green jello clause... from five weeks to a year... up to and including the letter 2...

Oh!  Here we go!

The Limerick
The mystical nature of the limerick has been discussed by many, disputed by few, and ingested by none*.  There are, of course, no clauses, pretenses, incongruencies, discombobulations, striations, or any other negative effect from said poetry**.  Limericks are a joy and are created to please the individual reader, thus creating a positive atmosphere in any situation.

*None except for goats, shrews, badgers, sharks, sea cucumbers, and one little weasel found lost in Albania.
**All promises made are based on unreal facts.  Please note that the limerick will likely cause the reader to turn into a fish of the poet's choice.

Uhh... so, you see?  No catch!  None whatsoever... <.<

I was going to give a batch of 6 cookies... but now I just don't know.

Take out the possibility of becoming a fish and then we have a deal! I'm not too sure on how water-channel accessible this place is designed... :P

Cookies!! But not for you!... yet. (http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2329/2467079836_714d266c33.jpg)

Wait, wait, wait...

Look.  It's just a fish.  And, besides, I get to choose what kind.  You could be a sword fish... or a tuna fish... or a koi...

Besides, I have this nice little, sword fish, tuna and koi pond right here!  *displays the happy forested pond*

See?  It'd be great.  Plus, I'd feed you every day!  ^_^

Come on!

'Tis done, Lawrence!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There once was a red wolf named Lawrence
Who wanted to chew on an orange quince.
  On his way to Asia,
  The pilot had amnesia
And landed the plane in Florence.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I hereby deem you a swordfish!

Arbutus, you shouldn't try giving cookies out in secret... you still get your reward in public.  :)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My dearest friend, Arbutus,
On his journey to Main had a fuss.
  He totaled his car
  And couldn't hop that far,
So he hitch-hiked with a beaver named Gus.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You are hereby a fangly fish!

Oh my, Arbutus!  Looks like you found some little friends.  :D

Just as long as Dr. Arbutus gets his own pond, I won't mind. I mean, He looks incredibly ravenous now! :o

By the way... Does there happen to be an anti-limerick to get rid of this? I don't remember covering the issue of limerick transformations in Medi - school.

Oh no! But I was just giving you a cookie because you were soliciting them on FA! I didn't want to be a... fanglyfish...

...although since I turned you into a newt, I guess this is payback. Oh well, at least I get to be an upside-down fanglyfish.

Thank you for the limerick, in any case! :)

Oh my goodness!  Another request!  Right-oh...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I once knew a McMajik
Who lived far away from the sticks,
  But that cat, all too snookie,
  Gave a Mario cookie,
So I wrote him this limerick.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Ah hah!  I deem you a nautilus!

Did that just happen?

One of Furtopia's own watchers... eaten? Consumed? Gone?

An innocent limerick game has spiraled into madness! Help! Somebody! Anybody who has legs and can breathe on dry land! Figure out some way to transform us all back to the way we used to be!

The life of everybody in this thread depends on just one thing: Finding someone back there who not only can fly this plane, but who isn't a fish.

But, it still rocks.  :D

EDIT:  Grah!  I'm still considering if it would be worth getting!  I'm a poor college student, and I'd have to make alterations, but it's just so cool!  Aww...

:o Huh? me!? I can't afford a fursuit for myself let alone someone else. And I got all these KitKats with my amazing ninja skills. I infiltrated Hershey PA and nicked them from corporate HQ.... Or maybe that was a movie I saw the other night....or a dream. (:

Anyway they were given to me by the head of the Hershey company for not divulging his horrible secret....Or did I get them for inventing the character Hershey for the 'Sonic' comics?

At any rate, the origin of my KitKats is highly classified.

But I'm not heartless. :)

:D Too weird? You should take a look back in the archives of Blastdav's thread. At one point Kobuk put Blastdav on trial for hoarding treasure and eating villagers and such, but he escaped by running away to frozen northern Canada with everyone else in the thread. Somehow we all wound up on the same rocket-powered dog sled together with every famous Canadian in existence, including Jim Carrey, Les Stroud, Sarah MacLachlan, and all five Barenaked Ladies. And then Weisse and I ran off to Vegas to elope, but we accidentally destroyed the Sun in the process and everything in the thread started to get very, very cold. :D

Oddly enough, I remember all that... :o

Oh well.  Who wants s'mores?

I'm half-asleep, groggy, and wanting to post an update.  If my English is slightly off, forgive me.  :o

Update 1:  I was mated, but I have stopped dating as of... uh, today.  As in, we broke up.  I think we're still gonna be great friends, but that's where it's gonna be.

Update 2:  I finished finals, still waiting for grades.  I think I'll do okay.  My classes weren't as hard as I've had before, but I'm still worried about a couple (like the final on my Living with Wildlife class... and, yes, a furry actually has to worry about that).

Update 3:  I got a scholarship!  Actually, two.  They'll probably pay for a whole semester or two, so I'll be able to live off of more than just Top Ramen and PB&J.

Update 4:  As soon as possible, I'm sending my poetry to some journals to see if they can get published.  After my advanced poetry class, I feel somewhat confident in what I have.  I plan on submitting to the Indiana Review, as well as several others.  I'll keep all y'all updated if anything happens (publishing is hard).

Update 5:  I'm working!  I technically have three jobs now:  Walmart (in produce), Writing Center online tutor, and private tutor.  The second and third haven't yielded anything over the summer, but we'll see if people actually use them.  I hope so... I need money for AC.  :)

Update 6:  I'm going to AC!  If you're there, I'll see ya.  ^_^

Update 7:  I'm a gonna go sleep now.

Okies, guys!  I guess I should post this here!  It's pretty big news for me, anyway.

I went to AC, and on Saturday night while we were playing a game of Werewolf, I met a fellow fox named Fazar.  Of course, the three foxes there united against the rest of the crowd, so we basically controlled the whole game.

During that time, though, I watched Fazar... the way he acted, the way he laughed.  There was something about him that I hadn't seen in anyone before...

Well, we stuck together a lot of the next day.  Nothing happened between us; I just felt like something big could happen.

After I got back home from AC, we found each other online.  A couple of days later, we officially became mates!

It's kinda scary to start something this quickly.  I've never done it before, but (then again) I've never been the instigator of most of my relationships.  I felt really good about it and still do.  :)

Anyway, that's the huge announcement!  ^_^

Well, Arbutus.  Since you asked, I'm gonna try to do a weekly show that's an hour long about... well, whatever I want to talk about.  This coming Sunday will start about vegetables and will go where it goes.  I've always wanted to do some sort of comedy show, and while I do improv, I have the urge to do stand-up.  While this isn't quite the same thing, it'll be done in mostly the same way.

I'll see how many people watch the first couple of months, then I'll decide if I continue or not.  Or, in other words, if I can at least get into the double-digits, it might be worth going for a long time.  :)

Anyway, here's the deal.  There will be an online link, but unfortunately it will only be accessible to people from USU.  If any of you want to read it, tell me either here or on a PM and I'll e-mail them to you.  I'm being careful about this because I may be able to get these published, so I want to be sure to not do something that would make that impossible. ^_~

Poetry: http://www.scribendi.usu.edu/poetry_ugrad_1st.htm
Non-Fiction: http://www.scribendi.usu.edu/essay_ugrad_1st.htm

They're still going through formatting changes, so there are some punctuation issues that you'll see; however, I think it's currently available to everyone, and that won't last for long!  Hurry!  Take a look before it's no more! :o

(if it's already closed by the time you look, I'll send you a temporary link)

I'm getting a fursuit from Azure Coyote.  I told them to make me a random canine suit, so I have no clue what it'll look like (except that it'll be mostly red, white, black and blue).  It should be done in June, so things are coming up fast!  :)

Heh.  Well, the fursuit isn't gonna represent me as much as Alex does.  Simply put, I think I'll have a broader range of acting ability if I don't associate myself with that character.  I feel like I'd have a bit of a hard time portraying Alex's personality correctly, so a new, fresh character will be best.

So, sorry, no pink fluffy tail to munch on.  I might have an Alex suit someday, but it doesn't feel right at the moment (if that makes sense).

I never actually got my question answered xD.  What makes Alex such a hard character to play?
I would think it's because he associates the character so much with his real self but probably wants him to act differently, yet everyone knows him as "Alex" so if he were to suit as him he wouldn't feel much like he were in a suit but rather just as himself.
I've heard a few fursuiters give this as a reason they do not suit as their own fursona.

You hit the hammer on the... err, the nail on the hammer.  On the head.  Yeah... <.<

I'm an actor.  I feel like I'd be able to put a lot more of a diverse personality into a new character.  Consider it a new character, not a redefining of myself (because Alex is Alex, and that ain't gonna change :)).  Playing Alex would be playing myself; that's not a bad thing, but it's something from which I want to break away.

Just a short update about things that have been going through my mind.

Yesterday, I was talking with a friend online about autism.  He believes he may have some form or another, but his parents won't take him to talk to a professional (or anyone, for that matter, even though he occasionally has back-breaking depression).  Personally, I've been curious about the possibility that I could be slightly autistic, so I asked him for the test.  He sent it to me.

The results?

Quote
Your Aspie score: 140 of 200
Your neurotypical (non-autistic) score: 90 of 200
You are very likely an Aspie

Now I realize that self-diagnosis is risky, but in a way this excites me.  If I do have some level of autism, I would be able to finally understand a lot of my childhood.  When I was young, my parents knew something was wrong with me.  I went to some psychologists and have an MRI done, but nobody knew what was the matter.  I was highly socially awkward and had many mental and emotional struggles until high school when I started doing improv comedy.  That was what helped me build confidence in myself and learn how to interact with others.  Honestly, based on the questions in that test, I would have scored even higher back when I was younger.

I'm going to go see a councilor up here at the university when I can to see if this is right or not.  I feel like it is.  In my opinion, this is hardly a bad thing; I want to understand who I am, and this might be an essential key to understanding parts of my life that were mysteries until now. :)

One quick update in my life! :)

My fursuit is getting mailed to me tomorrow!  I have no clue how it looks, though, but I'll post pictures when I have them.

So be ready for the surprise, fellow furs. :D

Cool! Is it pink? I forgot, but who did you commission from?

I commissioned from Made Fur You, (http://madefuryou.com/) formally known as Azure Coyote Studios.

The fursuit isn't pink, I believe.  I told them the colors, but y'all will have to wait to see it later (either tonight or tomorrow, hopefully).  :)

Okay, I said the pink part because several people asked, and you indicated "he's not Alex", therefore, we assumed he wouldn't be pink  :-[?

In any case, where did the name "Digby" come from?
Title: Re: Big Al
Post by: Alexandre on June 19, 2010, 06:07:37 pm
Digby actually came from a random name generator, to tell the truth.  The fursuit maker asked me for a name, and I didn't have any ideas.  I pulled that generator up and flipped through until I came across this name.  I thought it fit well, so I kept it! :)

Anyway, simple story, yeah, yeah.  ;)

Guys...

... I got the fursuit today.  Omygosh, I had so much fun.  I somehow managed to get my friends to walk around with me on campus doing various errands.  It was great!

(http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p372/alexandre_de_britos/FursuitKid2.jpg)

That kid I approached was really scared.  She started to cry, and I had to keep myself from laughing.  I realize that I looked like a big animal to her, so it's all good, but she was the cutest, saddest girl in the world. :)

I love it!  It looks great... I joined here and really didnt want to have anything to do with a fursuit... but my opinoin is changing a bit.  Of course, I could never afford one, and I dont even know how to sew on a button, so making one is out also.  I had went to a gathering of furs this Saturday, and there were several suiters there... Just about all of the suits were very impressive!  I can see why people do this too... well, I dont know if this is why yall do it... but it would be a why I would... Its an escape.  Its like you are someone else, kind of like on vacation... you can forget about your problems, and just be your fursona.  That is what attracted me to the fandom in the first place... well and the art, but the more I discover, the more Im drawn in.
Title: Re: Big Al
Post by: Alexandre on June 21, 2010, 09:12:51 pm
That's probably part of the reason some people do it.  Honestly, I love the look that people have.  After the first time, I find that people's reactions are the best part for me.  I like to see people smile (hence the reason I also do improv comedy).  :)

So after suiting for your first time, How was it? I'll bet you were nervous, excited, and lest I forget........HOT!  x_x

Well, after I started using Alexandre, I realized that Americans can almost never pronounce it right; it almost sounds too formal.  "Alex" was a good shortened simple version of the name.  However, some people (i.e. Blast) started calling me "Al," and they (i.e. him) decided "Big Al" would be a good nick.

So, yeah, I'm Big Al.  :)

Ive always thought it was Al-eh-san-drae.  I had a customer at the bank with this name, and he was from Mexico or something.  I called him and pronounced it as it looks.  He then said... "Can you prounounce it correctly?" Its pronounced (like I did above).  I told him I didnt think I could.  I hung up, and practiced out loud a couple times.

If the pronunciation is Spanish-like, my guess is:

al-ay-HAN-druh

It looks so much like "Alexander"; that's what I thought it was for my first couple of months here...

The first time I realized how to actually pronounce your name was when you spelled it out in that story you wrote about the alien abduction thing. Wait... that would have been like, a year ago that you wrote that? Wow, time has gone by fast...

Before reading that, I had figured that you were going for something other than Alexander cause of the spelling. So I was basically reading it as a mash up of 'Alex' and 'Andre'. I tend to just read it as Alex anymore though. Easier on my brain...

Lemme see... I believe we have some things up on YouTube, yes.  Lemme link you up. :)

Unfortunately, some of these are Facebook videos.  I think most of them will work for everyone; if they don't, you can become my friend on Facebook. ;)

Bad Advice (http://www.facebook.com/brian.l.cook?v=app_2392950137#!/video/video.php?v=10150134043790008) -- a Facebook video showing people in a panel giving advice.  I'm the only guy in it, so I'm easy to find. ^_~

Pastiege part 1 (http://www.facebook.com/brian.l.cook?v=app_2392950137#!/video/video.php?v=1424273533730) -- a group of scenes made up on the spot.  I'm wearing the stripedy sweater.  This video has a weird watermark and a horizontal green line that makes everything squishy.  I'm not the one who put it up, so don't blame me. <.<

Pastiege part 2 (http://www.facebook.com/brian.l.cook?v=app_2392950137#!/video/video.php?v=1425379961390) -- still has the water mark, but at least it's not squishy. >.>

Stuck (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gg99gkZzHow&playnext_from=TL&videos=hIGsIknzlYg) -- an advertisement for our show tonight.  :D

The Rant (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJ2mftZpfGE) -- probably one of my favorite games ever, and this version was a lot of fun.  :)

There you go!  Hopefully it gives you an idea of some of the things we do.  ^_^

Nah, just a manager came up to me and very seriously said, "Sir, take that head off or I'm going to escort you out of here."  I'm not gonna mess with management, so I took the head off.  Then I felt really awkward and went back to the car to wait for my friends.

I do know a lot of the management there, so it's possible I could contact them in advance just to ask permission.  However, there probably are some places that are a bit safer and better to do it, anyway. ^^;

So I was advertising for the improv show as Digby again, and a hearse honked at me.

A hearse.

... is that a good sign? :o

Looks like the Logan Arthouse and Cinema has some good plans for me, anyway.  They may do a video / series of videos of Digby to advertise, some of them beating me up (apparently).  It's character abuse, yes, but they think it could be effective advertising.  Also, the manager is planning to do a huge mural on the side of the building of different people around the town (each person paying to get their face put up); Digby is likely to show up there, as well. :)

Anyway, it's kinda cool that, little by little, I'm starting to feel like a community celebrity.  It's nothing big yet, but I love to see people wave and honk while passing on the street.  :D

A honk from a hearse is a curse or worse,
No one should get cursed from a hearse I converse.
Unless the curse is from the hearse,
Of the famous Big Al.

Go right to the hearse and ask for a nurse,
There should be one there if the driver is not terse.
Then ask for the curse to be reversed
For the Famous Big Al.

I wanted to give an update about my life!

The improv show is going great!  It's been hard to draw a consistent crowd, but we've finally established a small fan base that comes to the shows on an almost-weekly basis.  Not only that, but we were recently interviewed by the local paper.  The paper came out the day of a performance, and I was shocked to see so many people show up just because of that interview!

I'm the guy with the glasses making that weird phone hand thingy.
(http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p372/alexandre_de_britos/cachemagazine.jpg)

To have the front page of the entertainment section and two whole pages inside was just... amazing.

(if anyone cares, here's the link (http://issuu.com/cachemagazine/docs/1022_cache) to the article)

Anyway, we recently had a Halloween show, and we had over 140 people in attendance.  I, of course, went as Digby.

(http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p372/alexandre_de_britos/halloweendigby.jpg)

We've been invited to perform at a Christmas dinner for the local Search and Rescue as well as at the university campus.  Honestly, things are looking up for this small group of performers. :)

Besides that, school, work, and poetry is consuming my life right now.  The semester's end is nigh, though, so I might have a life again in the near future. :D

For your information, I've recently gotten into a relationship!  It's actually a polyamorous relationship involving two other local furs, and we're a very open trio.  It's working out really well for me, but I've kinda decided it maybe wasn't the best to start up during the last few weeks of the semester. :D

Also, I wanted to ask for some opinions.  Recently, I have been thinking a lot about changing my name on the forums.  Right one, I'm Alexandre, but I've been fursuiting and joining other forums as Digby (pictured in previous posts).  I'm not sure if I should keep the old fursona or move on to this new one.

I dunno.  Any thoughts?

I am Shim, but that character is Junyad Van Bloodmourne. We are not the same person, but he is my fursona. The reason I asked for the name 'Shim' on it, is because that's what everybody already knows me by ;).

Did that help at all?

I'm all for the seperation of RL vs RP so I say go with the Change. Digby is easier to spell anyway and there woud be very little difficulty with pronounciation. You'll need to change the header of this phread though, if you do. Let me make a suggestion or two:
Digby's Digs, Dig on By, New Digs, Dig it? You Dig? Deni Didi Digi.
The last one being a play on the latin phrase Veni Vidi Vici meaning; I came, I saw, I conquered.

Dig, diglet, dig.  The big dig(to keep in line with big al), while my fursona gently digs, the great dig in the sky,  life, the universe and digging, four score and eight digs ago... Okay now i'm getting silly. (:

*sings* If you're feeling dead i'll be your reanimator. I've got the way to bring you to life. A superior existence with no one to control you, where you can always do what you like.  Let me give you some green color and you will ask for more. I suppose I oughta update everyone on my life!

I kinda disappeared for a little while.  Life became busy, and I felt like I was having a more difficult time getting on the forums.  Life sometimes does that to people, and I know it's natural to lose waver a little bit with dedication.  Sometime in January, though, it kind of became apparent that I either needed to go all in or step out of the forums for good.

And I didn't step out :)

What I really need to do is get to know more members here personally.  Please, don't be afraid to add me on Skype (the messenger I use most).  I have a lot of peeps there, so I might not always be available to chat; however, I love chatting with you dudes.  My Skype is alexandre.de.britos.santoro

For now, have a fox cake:
