Post by: WhiteShepherd on July 16, 2014, 05:42:07 pm
Heads up we are about to preform a forums upgrade.  Any new messages/posts will not be saved till the transfer is complete.  ETA 1-2 hours or less.

So what types of upgrades/improvements can members expect to see when the forums are upgraded?

The upgrade did not happen due to unforeseen issues. It will be attempted again tomorrow I hope.

I liked the old version better. This new version will take getting used to.  :( We're missing half of the cat emotes.

That was one of the first things i noticed too... oh well, at least there's more blue stuff.  Blue is a cool color.

Just be patient while everything gets cleaned up. It may take a little time to get everything put back in place. It's like moving to a new house or apartment. Everything is transported in boxes and put roughly where it belongs, but it takes some time to get everything set up just so.

Whenever I try to post, I get the following error message from Firefox:

Quote
The page isn't redirecting properly

Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.

This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept cookies.

We are aware of the issue, and will be working to get that resolved.

Again, we ask for patience while we get the dust settled.

Kobuk,  any time a major update is done it can take a while to iron out the problems.  There's no need to panic.

If you notice any major bugs,  you can always take screenshots and post them in a thread here:  http://forums.furtopia.org/furtopia-org-services-support/

Thanks.  ^^

It looks like the redirection loops have fixed themselves. If they occur again at any point please let me know.

For those who might not have realized it yet: if you don't like the big header with all your stats at the top of the forums, you can hide it by clicking the little mark at the top right of the screen. :)

Le'Gasp~!

I'm gone for just a few days and it's like walking into a completely different site *walking while talking and falls down a set of stairs that wasn't there prior to my leaving*

I actually like the new look a lot; its something new, which I find refreshing :). I think it feels "friendlier" for some reason...  And I like the header, it's very useful.
I did notice the profile "species" field has disappeared though?

I love this update :D (so far). It's nice and clean and the functionality is really nice. (being able to move things to a sidebar position such as the one in "My Messages" and being able to hide things). I'll make more comments when I discover new things ^^

I'm not panicing, Alsek. I'm simply stating whatever problems or issues there are that I'm having/seeing. Panicing is for when I run out of Mt. Dew..........which hasn't happened yet thankfully.  :D

Yes and no to this one. The old forum used custom php to make that field. The new forum software can make custom profile fields within the software itself. We still have it. It's just moved to the bottom for the Forum Profile page.

Just look to the left of this post to see I still have my species :)

Odd thing about that:  I had to re-input my species info. last night. But after I did, that's when I lost my avatar and have never been able to fix my avatar since.

The DB field is different. So everyone will have to reinput in. Strange how your avatar no longer worked. I briefly saw a photobucket error on there if that helps.

How do you view all unread topics from all boards?
Title: Re: Forum version upgrade
Post by: Weisseman on July 18, 2014, 10:02:21 am
There's a link in the profile space at the top - Show unread posts since last visit.

one thing i miss all ready is the "active topics" tab that was next to the "home" tab

other than that it looks nice just need to get used to it.

The link described above does the same thing as the Active Topics button did.

Ah, thanks, I must have missed that! :)
~Also, I noticed quite a significant speed increase (at least 2x), which is great.  I'm actually surprised that the new release could be that much more efficient.

Is this permanent, is it supposed to feel old, and can I change it back for myself somehow? It feels very 90's, blocky, and more downgradey than upgradey, I really dislike it, no offense of course, I really don't want to hurt any feelings at all, and I mean no ill feelings, It's just really creeping me out o.o

We won't be reverting back to the old version. This was a pretty necessary upgrade to the overall forum platform being used. Some visual tweaks might still be possible, but the biggest thing right now is to make sure functionality is all where we need it to be.

"Specify an avatar by URL" does not work after multiple attempts.
"Upload an avatar" does finally work.

Honestly not sure what was up with your avatar disappearing. Mine is linked by URL, and I'm even hosting it on Photobucket as well, and it's working just fine.  I did check yesterday after you reported the issue, and the URL that was in your avatar field just wasn't working. Even just pasting it in the browser, I was getting an 'image not found' error from photobucket.

At least you got it uploaded  :)

I tried linking from PB at least a dozen times, but nothing worked. I even tried using different pics, but still nothing. I don't know if the issue is here at Furtopia or if it's at PB.

I tested a Photobucket link and they work fine. I think it's PB's end because it's not our end.

On a somewhat related note, I just did a bit of testing of my own.  If you use Flickr for avatar hosting, you'll need to use an http:// link rather than an https:// link in the URL field (just remove the "s" before the colon in the URL after you paste it).  Apparently the service now defaults to HTTPS links (which is a good thing), but HTTPS links can't be used as avatar links on the forums.

Whoaaaaa, just popped in for a quick visit, only to find that y'all moved all the furniture and changed up the decor while I was gone. Can't even find the hallway that leads to my old office anymore. :'(

Anyway, great work admins, control panel is a good addition, really loving the new menu bar with the drop-downs, okay carry on 8)
