So he worried that you would spontanously mutate and become part human part animal? Uhm uh... Ok...

Not exactly. What she was worried about was that I would want that to happen, similar to how a transgender might want to become of the opposite sex. The point was that I shouldn't accept a desire to unnecesarily change my body.
(I don't want to generalise trans folk here, not every trans wants to change their sex.)

Why would you ever care though? You should do what makes you happy as long as you're not harming anyone. Isn't their something on christian beliefs along the lines of "don't judge if you don't want to be judged?"

There is. However, the body is compared to a holy temple created by God. The way most Christians see it, you shouldn't want to make changes to that temple. I even heard of a Christian who compared a tattoo on an arm with graffiti on one of the walls. If I start wishing to become an real-life anthro, I might as well decide to break the entire temple down and build it from the ground up.

I should probably stop here...

Not in any furry closet.

I'm pretty canonical when it comes to the defiition of a furry:
"Someone who appreciates fictional anthropomorphic characters." That's it.

So, to be "a closeted furry" makes as little sense in my mind as being
a closeted Whovian, or a closeted Steampunk.

Furry is a hobby about creativity: we draw, we write stories and create colorful costumes.
That's nothing you should keep in the closet.

There's a lot of overlap in between fan/subcultures, and sometimes you fall into more than one:
I have my own magic/juggling/balloon-twisting act, where I perform as a steampunk/fox character.
To some members in the audience, I have a steampunk character (who happens to be a fox)
others notice the animal character first  (oh, and he's a steampunk too.)

The same thing goes for fursuiting: I LARP as a badger (which makes me a beastfolk LARP'er.)
That character is a protagonist from my own fantasy novel (suddenly I'm a writer in character). I attend EuroFurence wearing the exact same fursuit, sword, armor and cape (and presto! I'm a furry.)
Same guy, same costume.

I know there's a subgroup of furries who can't get enough of the adult stuff.  I don't share their interest and I don't feel represented by them. So, to me "furry" is all about creativity, and the only furry thing in the closet is a fursuit - and that's just for keeping the dust away.

I should probably add, that I keep "furry" and "therian" as two separate things. I'm not "out" about the latter.

I wouldn't say I am closeted, but I am not exactly open either.

I have a tattoo of my dragon that I am happy to show off to anyone, but I haven't really joined the community either (mostly because I think I got hung up on the term 'fur' when my dragon is 'leather')

but if someone asked me I would probably respond 'yes' or 'kinda'

Yeah, no one in real life knows that I'm furry.

I suppose I indeed am. Even when a person asks if I'm a furry, I adamantly deny it. I'd rather hide it than let my friends know about it.  :D

My Mom displays several photos of me in fursuit on her fridge.

I keep many furry things in my closet--but I'm not in there myself.   :D

If I had fully realized there was a furry closet, I probably would have stayed in it for a while, taking peeks out from time to time.

As it was, I was raised to not know of closets (raised to not lie or hide things) in general, and therefore I didn't closet myself regarding furry.  Boy was that a mistake, knowing who my family is!!

My life lesson ... hard to get back into the furry closet, so choose wisely, for the correct furry closet will bring you anonymity, and the false furry closet will bring certain pain (if you live with some of my closed-minded relatives)

So, trying to claw my way back into a furry closet, but finding it hard.
No one at work knows about my hobby.
My neighbors do not know.
The police know... as they stopped me at 2am walking in the park as a huge dog...but they were cool with it.

Bear your soul and take control
If the wolves are howling outside your door
Invite them in and make them beg for more!
(Name that tune!)

A few people know. I'm proud to be furry, but I'm cautions about who I tell.
I took the red pill...
