DJ PON3 Custom Doll Update [WIP!]
« on: May 28, 2012, 12:42:22 pm »
Here it is dudes and dudettes. My first-ever "large size" custom. And it's none other than Vinyl Scratch.

This is also my first re-hair - probably not actual term - and I have to say I have mucho, mucho respect for people who do this stuff all the time. The kind of respect usually reserved for spacemen and Optimus Prime.

Scratch's locks were shorn from a stupid glam wig and a stupid girls' doll. She has a pair of shades that are drying right now. Eyes and cutie mark to follow shortly.

Wish me luck!

I'd say the hair is fine as is, no need to trim it at all :P

Can't wait to see it finished. Good picks on the hair colors, too. Do you plan to just leave her as the plastic-white, or will you spray her white as well, just to have a more finished look (and possibly better white)?

There we are peeps. Just finished the eyes and cutie mark. And the glasses are done! But they'll probably stay on top of the head like that. No sense obscuring the eyes I guess.

Thanks for the good words bro. I'll be leaving her plastic-coloured I think. Mainly because I can't be bothered to mask off the hair and eyes for painting... :P

:o The eyes are amazing!

Muchas gracias. I actually have a decent technique for "doing" eyes, although I'm not sure if the fandom is aware of it. For tricky details I use water decals - the sort of thing you'd use to put markings on model kits. You simply print out a whole sheet of eyes/marks/whatever, spray a thin coat of lacquer over it all, and away you go.

It isn't quite as simple as it sounds, due to the fact that the inks are water-based and you need to soak the decal off the paper in... a large amount of water. :P :P :P :P. But after a bit of practise you can do it quite easily. The results are worth it!

(Not sure this is really worth a post on its own, so...)

Spent a few days with Luku last week, working on a custom of my OC/ponysona, Viridian.
Technically it was a joint effort, but all I really did was apply the 'mark, look over his shoulder and take photos.

Spoiler:  Images within! • show

Sefty.

Is that cutie mark a 404 error?

Eeyup :). It started as more of a joke (I think) - Luku suggested it when we were tossing ponysona and cutie mark ideas for each other around, and I decided to go with it - it suits my personality somewhat. :D
