Title: Radio Stuffs
Post by: Fish on November 16, 2005, 08:23:40 pm
Since the radio has become a lot more popular of late and loads more DJ's are filling up time. I was thinking of 2 possible things.

The first is a little more simple. If there is no DJ playing would it be ok for DJ's with the proper registration to fill dead air anytime they feel like it? If there is pre-scheduled programming the DJ would have to sign off but it would allow a lot more time to be used on something other than dead air. Obviously scheduled programs would take priority and if anyone violated these they would be dealt with accordingly.  I for one would like to play an hour of music some tim when I'm free every now and then.

The other suggestion is a radio notifier on the main page or forum page or both. Furrs could check it far easier and tune in. I for one would like a fast and easy way to see if the radio has dead air and/or which DJ is playing from there. It could be tricky but I don't know. It would certainly help get more furs listening and making use of the radio.

Thanks.

I believe you are already allowed to do this - that is, to fill a particular timeslot on a one-off basis (obviously, within reason). For the purposes of etiquette if you're gonna fill in you may want to tell people, but as far as I know you can.

The other suggestion is a radio notifier on the main page or forum page or both.

Well, I know Ante has a banner in his sig that shows:
 - The status of the server (online or offline)
 - The number of people listening in
 - The current song playing.
It automatically regenerates depending on the server status, and I don't know how to arrange it to get the DJ/song title, but it's definitely something to think about.

So I can recycle a topic I'll put this here even though it's mostly unrelated to the above.

I was think if maybe it's possible to have 2 separate stations running at the same time as (for those who don't know) the radio server now has 2 ports for streaming now meaning 2 stations can run at the same time. I realise that this isn't nessesary just now as the radio is still with a fair bit of dead-air to fill but maybe it could happen sometime in the future and then it'd be very cool for and very expansive for the radio system, not to mention the DJ's who could DJ more cause they can pick a time for broadcast more suited to them that isn't taken by someone else.

It'd be pretty awesome and it'd give you choice as to what you'd listen to. Just a nice thought I had today when I was broadcasting both at once and saw the potential.

I think that's a pretty good idea. We would just need more DJs, but Ithink it can be done =n-n=

we would need more listeners too. If to seperate stations play at the same time one DJ may loose listeners they once had to a new one.

not really fair.

good point... I really didn't thought that.  I guess radio's fine the way it is for now... maybe later it may be needed to get a second stream, but for now it is good.
