Title: Trading Card Games?
Post by: Admiral Purge on March 13, 2004, 08:58:45 am
My Yu-Gi-Oh deck wasn't all that great, until on the last day of school last year. This kid had a really good deck and he was open to some fair trades... I offloaded alot of cards that look good but suck in practice, and gained a very formidable deck that combines only the best in hysteric fairy and soul of purity and light technology (:

My most feared card(s) are the Bubonic Vermin (partially because I give then a stirring introduction and occaissionally add theme music when one is attacked!;)... I always have something on the board, and I can pull tribute monsters out of surprising places  :)  Soooo many effect monsters... Only problem is, nobody will play me anymore... I always win!

I am a feared and respected Yu-gi-oh duelist. my deck consists of light monsters or to the importance spellcaster monsters. i also have cards such as to modify my monsters and swing the rules! Inaba White Rabbit is my most annoying card and luminous spark is my most feared card. none of my monsters meant for attacking are under 1700 attack points and none meant for defending are under 2000 defense. all my monsters below 2000 attack points except for Marie the Fallen One are level 4 or below. My deck is also based on anti control, so i can blast off your defenses and knock at you with power! weapons plentiful. do not duel with me unless you think you've got some nice cards.

I had to pick 2 out of the four, I am a respected magic player and a feared poke`mon player. I was almost bumped right out of both when all my most powerful decks were stolen but i've managed to rebuild a bit.

(:  Magic here. I was playing befor most people even knew it existed.... It came it went... Just like all others. The difference is that Magic has been the definitive CCG of them all and is still played. Can't say much about alot of the others in a couple years.

I used to play Magic (still have a large bin full of cards, in fact) but I put myself down for Yu-Gi-Oh... I just find it a faster and generally more enjoyable game.

Magic!!  The art on those cards are absolutely wonderful. n.n

And when I was in school, I started the Magic: TG club.  We weren't an official club... we just wanted something to do on Wednedays after school.  Since we weren't being watched by a teacher, and apparently now they have stricter rules, they may not be meeting any more.  But oh well... it still makes me feel all cool 'cause I started a trend or something for a few school years.

I don't really play the games but I have a set of equine cards from "Dragon Storm" that were given to me since I just fell in love with the artwork!

I like the cards for the artistic stuff, WS likes to play the games. He even used to GM some before I moved here and for awhile after I moved here.

Mm.  Its been six years since someone first tried to teach me how to play Magic, and I still don't understand how it works to save my life.

Yu-Gi-Oh took six minutes (I still suck at it, but at least I know what I'm doing). :)

I used to play the Star Trek and Star Wars collectible card games, (but I was really lousy at them, and they were so bloody expensive...)  I ended up selling them to the friend who got me into the game in the first place, (no doubt his original goal, the sneaky devil!;).

The only thing I play now that comes close is Star Chamber, an online collectible card game you play across the 'net with other people. Buying cards isn't *necessary* but you'll need to if you want to actually compete and raise your rankings and such.  It's a lot like the PC game 'Master of Orion', but...well, with cards, and a few new features. :K)

I love MTG, and I really want to work for WOTC.
I have this evil beast deck that churns out huge creatures, really fast. A 3rd round 6/6 is impressive.
I also have a annoying ping/bounce/sizzle deck. Everyone hates it :)
I was the only girl ever to make it to the last round at a local tourny.

White then and themed at that, not a good deck to start with at all. If you ever happen to be out my way and really want to learn the basics lemme know.

I've never been much of a fan of CCGs. They're usually way too expensive to seriously enjoy. Buying RPG books was usually bad enough for me. :p

I used to collect and play MTG, Star Wars (from Decipher), and also Star Trek (First Edition from Decipher). Unfortuneately, I had to sell my entire MTG collection years ago because I couldn't afford buying 3 different games at the same time. I still have my entire Star Trek collection but don't play it anymore cause too many people used to cheat and play so many Rogue Borg cards and such. Still have my Star Wars collection but don't play that either and am currently looking to sell entire sets as is, or else sell the cards as singles. Haven't made any firm decisions yet. I didn't want to sell my MTG cards but at the time I was more into sci-fi than anything else. I still think MTG is the best card game ever created.

I'd tend to agree. My biggest complaint about the game is the cost involved. I really haven't tried many other CCGs because I figure I spend too much on magic cards as it is. (Anyone here use apprentice?)

I play Magic, I love magic, I collect Magic. As I call people who are really into Magic, I am a mage ^^

I started with pokemon, and it was fun. I had a seck, befor pokemon came out in my part of the country. But, one day, I was looking at a card mag, and saw the most beautiful card I've ever seen. Mirri cat warrior. This was just as I came into my furryness. I feel in love with the card, and memorised every thing about it. I started to collect cool looking cards, then became a Dragon mage, and after 2 years, I finnaly got my prize. A mint Mirri. I still play and after 4 or 5 years, I have just about ever Dragon card, and a huge hord of other cards. I no longer bye newer sets, because I don't like the new design. I will still get Dragons, and these Cat warrior cards I heard of. Other then that, I only get old cards.

I love the game, and I am powerful with my Dragon deck. One of it's kind around here. ^^ No one else has near the amount of Dragons I do. I forget, but I think it's to 50 something. not alot of Dragon cards were relieced, but now I think they may be doing more and more of them. My quest, is on going.

Peace

I forgot to mention this, but for anyfur that has a large CCG collection and needs help organizing it, building decks, knowing quantities of cards they have, etc., then please check out www.wolflair.com  They have a product there called Card Vault that is a absolute must for anybody that is a serious CCG collector or player. I'd say more about it here, but I'll let everyone check it out for themselves. Trust me, you won't want to be without it.  :D

A common mistake here, the serrah angel is a 4/4 angel that doesn't tap to attack, the serrah's avatar is the card that has p/t based on your life and it goes to your library when it goes to the grave yard.
On a players note, it is not that hard to deal with a serrah's angel or avatar just gotta have a good deck. *cough backlash cough*

Actually that's Serra Angel and Serra Avatar; no h. Anyway, the avatar is only good when your life total is. I played a game once where I had my opponent down to 1 life (he had worship so I couldn't kill him.) And he played the avatar, so he payed 7 for a 1/1.

back lash taps an untapped creature your oponent controlls and makes it do that damage equal to it's power to it's controller, i've also mirror striked one as well as blocked one with a cockatrice ^v^. theres almost always an answer for whats on the board just gotta know when to do what.

 You know, I have absolutely NO idea what you just said.  That's always been my problem with Magic- nobody can dumb it down enough to explain it to me so it always sounds really complex.

Although I guess, on the opposite end, I could say:

Use Change of Heart on your opponent's monster and use it as tribute to special-summon Blue Eyes White Dragon.  Equip him with the Ring of Magnetism, then equip another monster with Shooting Star Bow and attack directly.

I play Magic:TG. Fun game, though I gave most of my cards to my little brother I still have a few decks. My favorite combo is Jareth: Leonine titan (4/7 that gets +7/+7 when it blocks and tap one white to give him protection from the color of your choice until end of turn) with a pariah (all damage that would be dealt to you, is dealt to target creature isntead), great combo so long as your not playing against a white deck. Have a suicide zombie and a beast deck too, suicide zombies are fun :D .

Okay every one seems proud of thier collections and wants to brag so i'm gonna give the tale of my rise and fall, I was once extremely serious into both pokemon and magic. I tried to get into playing magic on the pro level, my first qualifier i attended i placed 22nd out of 84 and even beat the guy who won in the first round (it was a point system). I was the only player to ever be ejected from the pokemon league for skill, (stupid toys r us >v<) and before my collection and decks were stolen i had easily 7k worth of rare cards in mint condition in my binder, but my back pack containing most my decks and all my rare cards was stolen and i just haven't been nearly as deep into it as i used to be. The decks i lost will never be replaced and the power i used to have at my finger tips is gone for good, it breaks the spirit to lose so much and i just don't trust myself with these weaker decks like i used to. there you have it my rise and fall, if you don't mind i have to go cry now.....

Yeah, the number one rule when going to a public TCG meet is to watch your posessions like a hawk. You can't trust anyone, it'd also be a good idea to buy locks for your bag and such. I've been fortunate enough to never been stolen from, but I never leave anything for more than a nanosecond (like picking up a fallen coin). Sorry about your cards, I know I'd feel horrid if my Pokemon collection dissappeared.

I play both Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh...I stopped collecting Yu-Gi-Oh really, since everyone began to get too easy or too hard to beat. It just became no fun anymore. I still play Pokemon whenever I get the chance, I have nearly 400 rare cards with about a fourth of them holos...I also have 20 lbs of commons and uncommons...my decks are always killer sweet, and I've came in high places in every tourny I've been too...speaking of which I need to go build a new deck for anime club this week, we're having TCG day and another one of the top players in the state is going to be there...I gotta' build something to cream him...wish me luck... :p

I wasn't aware of this. XD

Well, if I must... I used to have a box full of magic cards.  It's been years since I counted (1996) but I think I had somewhere near 500 cards.  Anyway, I remember having three Black Lotuses and quite possibly a lot of other rare cards.

One night my dad, brother and I all went out to eat.  We came back to see cop cars in our driveway.  The old lady across the street saw someone walking around in our house with a flashlight and called the cops.  The guy left before the cops got there, though.

All our stuff was still in the right places, except the burglar had taken my Magic cards.  :(  Somehow it got out that it was my brother's friend Zach, who lived a few houses down, and the theory was he had sold them for drug money.

So yeah.  I have very few cards left over from the raid and I guard them preciously... like my Lhurgyof and Polar Kraken. NOOOO ONE shall be purchasing those anytime soon. x(

[edit]  It has just been brought to my attention that my friends at high school still have the (non-supported by the administration) M:TG club I started.  I feel important somehow. :B

That would certainly be interesting, but somehow I don't think the games are similar enough that it would be possible.  In Pokemon, could I use Change of Heart to take control of my opponent's Mew and then use it as tribute?

I'm not sure how I would do the rules for pokemon vs. yugi-oh. Came up with a very good system that blended the rules of magic and pokemon beautifully to where no single game player REALLY has the advantage. takes ALOT of skill in both games to not get overrun by a good mixed deck.

Those would be the God cards; Obelisk, Slifer, and Ra.  Their a lot more common than they should be and the cards themselves don't specify how to use them in their descrptions.  And trust me, based on my experience, anyone that bothers with trying to acquire one of those cards usually sucks at dueling- all you need is a Gravity Bind or a Michizure and they'll throw two tantrums, one after you beat them, and another when they finally figure out that God Cards are supposed to be unnaffected by trap cards.. :)

i collect yugioh cards and i got quite a formidable deck. its basically a mix of many startegies, but all the cards have a purpose, all of my level 4 or lower monsters are effect monsters, and i have a strategy that can get out a dark paladin and jinzo in 3 turns(given the right cards). i dont know how good a duelist i am, my friends say i am quite formidable but i personally dont know.i dunno if i lack good challenges or if everyone is just poor at dueling. btd is pretty good, but lacks the confidence and funding to go for more adventurous strategies. favourite cards byser shock, byser death and manticore of darkness(my avatar), strongest cards, master of dragon knight(japanese)shinato, king of a higher plane and chaos empiror dragon, envoy of the end. if anyone wants to talk strategies or anything just pm me, i not got msn or aim up and runnin on the new comp yet.

IMHO I think trading cards are just a waste of hard earned money. Think for a minute about how long it takes and how much money you could spend trying to put together an entire collection and then think what else could be done using those resources. It quite honestly baffles me that people can be bothered with them, but that's just my point of view.

For the same reason some on goes out and spends huge chunks of dough on music, or pc stuff. It is a past time, a game to play to entertain yourself and your opponent. Then there are those who do it profesionally, one can make a rather large amount of cash by selling the cards to collectors and players. Players can pull in a large amount of cash by playing on a pro tournament, the purse for the MTG world title was 200k USD, last time i looked it up. There really is no point to it other than a stimulating round of stratigic game play, or , in the case of pure collectors, a chance to meet and talk with people who normaly wouldn't cross your path.
Even further down the path, we TCG players do ALOT more when we meet then just play these games. We hang out together and do every thing you yourself probably do with your friends. But, in those instances when you have to wait for something, rather than sit there bored or breaking something because we are bored, we bust out our decks and have a quick game to pass the time.

I have an X-Men card game but I dunno if it falls into this topic.
I also have two sets of cards but again, I don't know if they count. I got them as full sets. They are "weiner Tracy" (from the movie) and "Animaniacs".
Somewhere at home I have some other cards, but they are just loose ones and not full sets, if ya know what I mean. I keep them in a folder in card pockets but I don't do anything with 'em, as such...just look at 'em!

I played Magic as a kiddie back when they first came out. I think I would've played longer- save for the fact that the 'crowd' when I moved to my new town in early highschool wasn't very friendly. (Aka, those that played.)

You know the type- self-proclaimed offbeats that feel the need to give anyone not wearing black/pentacles/safetypins/death metal t-shirts the evil eye. The ironic thing being, of course, that I was into 99% of their enthusiasms (magic for one) but their reception of me was enough for me to write them off permanently. Nobody to play with=no more magic.

I still have *most* of my cards, but my Grandmother is in possession. I've been trying to get them back for a few years, now, but the opportunity just hasn't arisen. I had a bunch of the originals and one of those huge boxes they used to sell of Ice Age.

Good answer, I hadn't considered that point of view.
