I was curious as to your thoughts about anime styled "half beasts" and animal people. They range from cute to downright gorgeous or sometimes hideously ugly depending on the character. But I'm curious, are you the type who thinks unless it's covered in fur and only somewhat human that it's considered furry? Do you even like them?

I personally think that they're very cool. They are considered furry to me, even if they're just the generic catgirl with ears and a tail. I like them alot better than those animals with hands that walk on two legs but in no other way resemble a human. Anthropomorphic means "human-like", so why go so with that style? I mean it's perfectly ok if you want a more animalistic character, but if you really have to have it that way why not just go all Lion King and make your character be full animal that can talk? It just doesn't make much sense to me. Feh. Anyway...just vote ok?

I like them, but some of them for me have absolutely no relation to furry, since they just have fake paws and animal ears.
they have not of much in common with the furries

As long as they have real ears and a tail I'm generally happy.  The tail is a big deciding factor for me whether I classify someone as "furry" or not.  Ears alone, while an improvement, doesn't really do anything for me.

I voted 'there pretty cool I guess'. I don't mind them. Fake or real ears and all, but like some one else mentioned, I don't thing they should be considered furry unless then have real ears, paws and tails. '<img'>

I like them a lot. I find the whole stylized human animal thing really appealing. The more stylized, the better! Like Felicia, from Darkstalkers.
I've never really thought about whether I consider them "furry" or not. Honestly, I don't really care. But that is a good point, Xussa, where do you draw the line? Personally, I couldn't care less about whether there is a line or not  '<img'>

I'm not really sure what you mean by anime “half beasts”. So could you (or someone) post a link or something that shows what they look like so I can compare?

Ok they're basically humans with animal features. Ears and a tail are the most common but they can also have paws, whiskers, or any other animal features but they are mostly human. Catgirls are the most common. (By the way, be careful looking up pictures, there's alot of hentai out there...)

This would be an example of a catgirl: http://www.airandangels.com/folken/images/flknmiao.JPG

Ok, my opinion on them goes something like this:
Ones with just ears and a tail are ok, but not anything special. Now if you add the more animal like nose or muzzle, then you gotta go the rest of the way so their head is mainly animal like. Otherwise they tend to not look very good. Also having an animal head (most likely covered in fur) the rest of the body should be covered in fur as well. No need to “go all Lion King” as you said. Although that's acceptable, I prefer them not that far. For like that they cannot move about and act as humans do, especially since they'd probably lack the right kind of hands. So for me, the prefect type of anthropomorphic character is one that walks on two legs (preferably digitigrade) and has human like hands, but is otherwise mostly animal looking. And also I prefer them to be animals that actually have fur, like foxes, wolves, tigers, or so on.

These “half beasts” and such make me think more of people in costumes then actual anthros.

I like em' for the most part, but it really depends on how they act.  For an anime partial to even be associated with furry, I feel s/he needs to demonstrate a few behavioral characteristics of said species.  Otherwise the ears and tail don't really mean anything.

Bah... Never cared too much about them. Just don't consider catgirls part of furry though.
Anime does have some neat anthropomorphic characters though.

I don't have a problem with anime "half-beasts". Whether they are furry or not really comes down to a case by case basis. I mean, if they are just wearing the paws/tail/ears, they aren't furry, but you could imagine them to be furry fans '<img'>

no, she has fur. a half-beast is human (no fur) with an animal's ears and tail...
