Too many Important Topics.
« on: May 14, 2006, 09:11:07 pm »
Just a suggestion to the staff here: I've noticed that more Important Topics keep getting added at the tops of forums. And I've also noticed that some Important Topics are duplicate and/or old. Perhaps there needs to be some cleaning so to speak of Important Topics? Here's what I've noticed:

General Furry Discussion Forum
1. Easter Egg Hunt thread Important Topic: Since the Easter Egg Hunt is done, perhaps this can be removed, unless the staff still need it up there since it has prize claim info. in it?

Convention Forum
Perhaps an updated Important Topic of all available cons throughout the US and elsewhere, and also a map showing where they are all located?

Polling Forum
1. The "Do you like easter Eggs?" thread can be removed I guess. The contest is done.

General Non-Furry Discussion Forum
I guess everything is a-ok here?

Artwork Announcements Forum
1. There are two Important Topics discussing Furtopia tshirts. Are tshirts still available? Perhaps the info. from both of these topics can be combined or a new topic written and the two older topics removed?
2. There are three Important Topics (One by Savaaha, one by Ulario, and one by WS) that discuss posting guidelines and what is and is not allowed. Perhaps ONE thread can be written to combine all the info. from these three Important Topics rather than have three seperate threads?

Photography Forum
There's an Important Topic titled "New Photoshop Contest" that seems a bit old and unused. Is this still active?

Poetry Forum
There are two Important Topics by WS that are from 2004 and 2005. Are these still active?

Web Design Support
I don't know anything about web design and coding and so forth, but I'm guessing the Important Topics by Firebreath are still usefull.

The stickies in the Artwork anouncment section should be kept to a minimum (which is it far from that now)

The reason: there is a maximum of 25 topics that will show on one page. (at least that's how it is for me.) And this includes sticky topics. And the artwork anouncement section tends to be very busy so things quicky drop off to second page. By having less stickies this would be less of a problem.

While we're at it, could we get those Help threads of Skunkster's stickied in the Help/Life Issues forum?  Supporters are tired of bumping 'em  '<img'>

No, I'm afraid not at this time. The reasons behind it are explained in that thread but basically there is no problem that is more important than another one- to pin topics implies that they are.

Not to be sounding cruel but the facts are that if a fur is ready to commit suicide then a forum thread isn't going to stop them and a forum isn't where they're going to be looking for help, so to give it priority over a problem that may have more real and immediate conciquences for the poster wouldn't be in the proper manner for the forums.

There is no real need to delete threads.  Locking them will insure that they migrate off the front page but will still be available if someone wants to read them or refer to them.

I think I have finally come up with a solution to dealing with Important Topics which are at the tops of various forums.

Let's use the Artwork Announcements forum as an example, ok? There's at least 8 Important Topics at the top of that forum, correct? And if any more keep getting added, then those will push the regular non-Important threads down further. What if every Important Topic section had a drop down menu similiar to what the Community Groups forum has? So that in the future when someone visited the Artwork Announcements forum, they would then click on the little box with the down arrow key and a drop down menu would appear listsing all the relavant topics in the Important Topics section? This, IMO, would be a great way of condensing things. '<img'>

Oh SNAP there *IS* a thread about this!

You guys, this forum is way too dang cluttered.
I miss half the contests, truly important announcements, and other crap because of wading through all the stickies!!  It looks like the same old stuff is up there all the time, but when it changes I never notice.

There's too many subforums, too.  Like why is there "Artwork Announcements" and "Sharing and Artistry" when people use it for the same exact thing?  What is the difference between those two things, someone PLEASE tell me?

General Furry Discussion and Furries on Furry are the same thing.  If not, they can be.

And Furry Lite... I dunno...  it could still be in general discussion.
Half the stuff in Furry Lite could be taken care of if the "general gaming discussion" really let you have general gaming discussions.  It was suggested multiple times ages ago to have one of the forums actually about games and gaming, since so many furs are gamers.  But there ain't one!!!!

The amount of front page scrolling I have to do makes me happy my adult filter got turned off when I was banned or whatever.  I'm not even gonna bother turning it back on, just based on all the CLUTTER.

Hehe... been meaning to say all this for a dog's age.  Just now getting around to it.   You get a lot done when you have insomnia....  =X.X=
NYA!  =^_^=

Katty, you might want to check the following thread. It was written long ago about condensing the forums. And there's also a link to a thread I made before that. '<img'>
