Thank you for your kind words, DrakonianDanceR.

In response to your observations, the "Wolf Stare" was a rather difficult one for me to get done. I was using the Oil Pastels on black construction paper and the oils just wouldn't work right. I didn't want to toss it out and start over, why I don't know because I have done that on other pics, so I got a bit creative using some Prisma colored pencils. I also used a toothpic and toothbrush to get some of the affects I was looking for. WS was a great help in getting the eyes to look like they do with his suggestions while I was creating them. Oil Pastels are not very forgiving when working with them but I have learned some new techniques creating this pic!

The "Fox Cubs", "Nosey Grey Fox Cubs", and both of the eagle pics are my 'erased' pics. I put ONE color over the entire white paper,  then use a cotton ball to smooth it out and get rid of any excess chalk. I visualize in my mind what I want on the paper, which this time around I used photos for references, and then used the eraser. I am learning how to erase a lot and a little chalk to get different effects. The "Fox Cubs" therefore are not a different color, just erased more to be set off from the back ground.

I don't know if the eagles are the same bird or not but they are both bald eagles. I took them from two different photos for reference. I liked how the wings looked in the photos and I wanted to try and recreate them on the erased creations. (I need the practice on wings.) Creating these is what helped me to learn more about how much to erase here or there or not to erase to get some interesting 'detail' in the pics.

For the silhouettes, I used photo references for the backgrounds. Since I used the chalks, except on the "Kangaroo Hop", the backgrounds didn't come out as bright as the photos. I still like how they turned out though.

I would have liked the backgrounds on the silhouettes to come out like the photos, but I need more practice for that to happen.

I'm only doing 6 of the silhouettes and 6 of the erased pics. I'm trying to make each panel in the show a theme of its own.

I have more pics coming in the next coming week. I finished one last night that I just finished scanning and will add to my webpage and here some time tomorrow. (well, actually today)

Ok, another silhouette. I really like how the background turned out in this one.

"Cougar"

I have 3 more on my webpage to color and then I can start on new sketches!

Once I am done with these 3 new ones, I will basically have 3 panels completed. Now, only 67 more pics to go! I wonder if I will succeed, or even survive? (hmmm.... only time can tell)

Here are two more finished pieces. I have one left to color on the sketches I have already done. The next posting will be when I have completed another theme.

Stay tuned for more pics to come!

"Fox"

"Clouded Leopard"

wow you're fast, Kada! You've done great work with your silhouettes... I like the kangaroos and the horse the best.

Thank you, Sumarra.

I'm still working on figuring out how to do the sky with colors that make it look so beautiful. I did try using photos as a reference but using chalk doesn't give the colors the same rich deep color as the markers or Oil Pastels do.

It seems when I get on a roll I just keep going! Of course, I have been taking a day here and a day there to get other things done, like RL, and then when I can get back to the artwork, I usually try and complete as many as I can.

I will be posting the next group of pics after the theme is completed.

The cougar and the fox are quite similar stylistically.  Both use the silhoette effect, and pretty backgrounds.  The leopard is a different style, and still very nice - its 'pose' if you could call it that, looks natural.  The colouring on this one is nicely done.
DC2. etc...

To DrakonianDancer - I did a total of 7 silhouettes and actually sold the cougar one last night to a neighbor. She is into the big cats. The Clouded Leopard was one of 6 black background ones. It was more difficult to create on the black construction paper.

I still need to work on perception as the Clouded Leopard seems to have broken its tail at some point. The photo reference I used had two of them walking on a log that laid across a creek. I only needed one of the cats though.

For those who are following along, I still need to create 3 more pieces for the "Black Background" panel and 2 more pieces for the "Erased Chalk" panel. I probably should have finished those before starting on the "Fairies/Pixies" panel but need a break, especially the black background ones since they are, so far, the hardest to create. Nothing want to work on the black construction paper! But, I am learning along the way of what does work and what doesn't!  '<img'>

The "Silhouette" panel is completed! Yay, at least one panel is finished and framed!  '<img'>

Here are the last two for the black background theme! Yay, now I can work on some other themes. Next, I think I will be working on some adult stuff. Take a break from the general for a spell.

1. "The King"
Colored with Prisma pencils on the black construction paper.

2. "Jaguar Bath"
Colored with Prisma pencils on the black construction paper.

I know this one is darker and that is because I scanned it darker. I will be also scanning it later a lighter tint.

The "Jaquar Bath" was different. So was "The King". I had been coloring the pics on the black construction paper with the Oil Pastels but was finding that some things just weren't going to work with the Oil Pastels. I figured 'what the hay' and tried using the pencils instead. I liked how the pencils worked! So, I switched to the pencils for both of the above named ones.

I will create more with the pencils next year. I admit though, some still look great using the Oil Pastels and finding which pics go with which medium for best results, is an ever learning process.

Thank you for your comments, Sumarra.

hmmm... Ok, I was re-reading some of these posts and it something hit me about two of the comments and I am confused.

1. DrakonianDancer posted on April 4 "Clouded Leopard":
Quote
The leopard is a different style, *snip*

2. Sumarra posted on April 21 in reference to the "Jaquar Bath":
Quote
It seems ti be a bit different from your normal style.

Ok, what is my style and what can you tell me about these two that look 'different' from my normal style? Curiosity killed the cat but that is ok since I am a pegasus!  '<img'>

I have 2 new sketches for AC in the general section. They are a play on words and comical. Thanks WhiteShepherd for the suggestions!

1 "Big Hug"
I think this guy is feeling MUCH better now!

2 "Girls Just LOVE Balls!"
I don't think this guy gets it! (giggles) We all know how much dogs love to 'chase' balls!

I tried the edit thing but since it didn't show that I updated that post I will be posting the update separately so that it does show that it is updated.

Update 5-5-03

Ok, colored this one with Prisma pencils. Since I have been using my pencils almost exclusively of late WS was saying he may have to get me some more Prisma pencils before AC! I hope not since they are expensive and I would rather put that money towards AC. Enjoy!

Here are 2 more new pics for AC even though this first one won't be for sale. It is WhiteShepherd's fursona through my eyes (colored with Prisma pencils):

"WhiteShepherd"

This next one is a human male returning to his normal state of a leopard once he escapes the city. I had another sketch that I was calling 'The Escape' but once I colored it I didn't like it so I did a complete new sketch and colored it with Prisma pencils.

It's really hard to explain. You have a slightly tooney style to some of your works, and then you have a more realistic zooish style to some others. But then I see that Bath one and it seems different than the rest.

It could just be your line widths, or just the fact that you are using different mediums. Your Jaguar and Clouded Leopard could also just be a little less detailed than what you normally do, probably because of the different medium. ... I just can't put my finger on it.

<giggles> I looked over your latest works... you've taken a few leaps forward in your abilities, Kada... but what makes me laugh is your "Hug" pic.. all I can hear in my head when I see it is the lecherous chuckle of that wolf as he buries his face in her cleavage.  ':p'

Ah.... I can see what you are saying. Yes, I am doing different things and expanding on my abilities. And the different mediums do call for a difference in detail to some point. That "Bath" was a hard one to do. I'm glad that one is finished. Most of the artwork I am creating this year is all new ideas for me except for the 'erased' pieces. So, yeah, I can see what you mean in style. Apparently, as I go along I am doing many different styles. hmms... that is cool though, right?

Thanks for the explanation. It did help a lot.

ROFL!!!!

Yeah, that was WhiteShepherd's idea. He gives me a lot of ideas and I try to create them. Some turn out and some don't, especially when trying something new.

I'm also doing a commission for someone that saw the silhouette pieces and fell in love with them. She wants me to do a silhouette with both her cats in it. That should be interesting. I have a basic sketch done up already. Need to take a photo or two when she is available so I can finish the sketch.

Ok, taking a break from the adult pieces, here is a 'test' drawing. I was looking at BlackUniGryphon's tutorial on how she created wings and I wanted mine to have some of that insight. This drawing is what I came up with. I'm not sure where the other wing should be, or if is actually not visible by the position of the body.

This is only a sketch.

Any ideas, BlackUniGryphon? Anyone else?

Okey.... I colored the "Test drawing" and gave it a name.

"Knight Run" I don't know why I gave it that name but it seemed to fit in my eyes. (giggles)

I also redid another piece:
"The Escape"
I wanted to give it something to be 'escaping' from and when I was talking to Son of Earth about a little more to the pic, this was the idea I had in my mind. I added the skyline of a city to give the piece something to show the leopard was running away from something and changing from the human form to the leopard.

Wow. I love those wings. You draw your horses so well, Kada it amazes me. And that sketch really shows an improvement on your wings. The only thing I would add is a bit more of a hint to that other wing. Then I would say, auction that beauty off!  '<img'>

Thank you, Sumarra!

I had a lot of trouble figuring out whether or not that wing would even be visible in that position. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as to how to show more of it! So far, I have had no suggestions and I am at a loss for showing any more than what I put in. Even putting that small piece took a lot of time and repositioning to get it to look even natural.

Ok, it might be a little tough trying to explain my suggestion, but here goes.

When I did Cantrip, ( the one of the female dragon with a hint of breasts that I pointed out in a previous message ), I first omitted the Left Wing. But when I showed the draft it was commented on more than once that I should draw it in. Even though it very likely could have been hidden by the body. So I redid the Right wing and opened it up, giving the Left Wing that was half open more of a chance to look natural.

Now, I think your porportioning is perfect for this one. You have the wings coming out of just the right spot (IMO) and the Right Wing is in the right view. What you might want to do is find a way to show some flight feathers. Possibly angle the wing down a bit because with this pic I get the impression it's folded back on itself comepletely. I imagine if he has one wing extended he would probably have the other one out at least half-way as well.

So I suggest either half spreading it and dipping it down a bit so the flight feathers can be seen behind his hand down to his thigh. Or curl it so the feathers can just be seen down to where his wrist meets his chest, then add a few feather tips between his legs.

If you feel like spending the time on it, I recommend making a rough copy and trying different changes until one strikes you. That way you can preserve this copy in case it doesn't work out.

I hope that helps more than confuses, hehe.  ':p'
