Quote (Opalance @ Sep. 25 2005, 4:46 pm) |
Opalance means unity, within and without. An opal is a single stone made up of many colors, and a lance is a weapon that has several sides, but unites into a single point. |

Quote (Sora-kun @ Aug. 26 2006, 4:16 pm) |
Sora-kun is derived from Sora, the main character in Kingdom Hearts, one of me fandoms other than furs. Kun is used in boy's name and I'm mistaken fer a man way too often. Hence, the Sora-kun. |

As for Attorney at Lawl, I'm a fan of the "Phoenix Wright: Attorney at Law" games. I say "lawl" a lot in real life, and on line, so my friend combined the two, and it's stuck ever since too. |
Quote (Bacn Blackstripe @ June 06 2007, 7:34 am) |
Well bacn has been with me for years, I dont even know what it means anymore and blackstripe refers to the stripe my fursona carries that is based on the large scar on me nose |

My handle on the boards here is just a random assortment of letters I typed since I didn't want to use any of my old handles for fear of RL friends finding me by accident. Now that I'm over the 'furaphobia' thing, I relalize more and more every day that my fursona needs a real name, although I'm still drawing a complete blank as to what his name should be. Mabye it'll come to me in a dream or something cool like that. *shrug* Who knows |
Quote (Drasune @ Sep. 13 2007, 8:52 pm) |
Mine isn't too complicated in it's origins. When I switched to my new fursona (I was a pure dragon before, known as Silver), I decided to change my name, since Silver no longer really felt right. I didn't like the sound of drafox or foxon (fear my creativity in creating names ), I then remembered the Japanese word for fox was kitsune. Dragon + kitsune = Drasune, which I liked the sound of. Thus I was renamed. |

Arella Kivva, you are a hybrid leopard + lion, called a "lepon." Your name is... Ambience Caomh Lepon = acnibnlomepcmeeoah "Ambience" means "the special atmosphere or mood created by a particular environment." Caomh (pronounced "kayv") is Irish Gaelic and means "gentle; beautiful." Your mate is a ferret, named... Joash Christoph Pherret = chhtistoeehrshorpajrp -- Arella |
Quote (T Fox @ Nov. 22 2004, 5:20 pm) |
My furry screen names aren't realy very interesting. The first furry site I signed up to I used the name DogFox, ('dog fox' is the term for a male fox like 'vixen' is for a female one) but people kept thinking I was some sort of dog/fox hybrid. >.< So the second furry site I joined (this one) I took my signature (T Conroy) and replaced my last name with my species name. Like I said, not very interesting. |

X_X You've got to be joking. We have pretty much the same Furry Name! And the sad thing is that we both came up with it in the same way. I took my name, Travis F. and changed the last name to Fox, and took my first initial. |

Quote (Mobius @ Nov. 13 2007, 7:01 pm) |
My furry name, Mobius, came from the Mobius Strip, a strange anomoly and an impossible figure. I was in Alaska, I was 6, I think, and sneaking into the woods at night to look at the moon. One night I heard a snuffling sound, and looked down. There, ten feet away was the most beautiful creature I ever saw. It was a wolf. A female wolf. And in that moment I did some things a non-therian wouldn't understand, and got accepted into the pack as an equal, even though I never saw the pack. That night, I dreamed about the Mobius Strip, and after that, became fascinated with it. So it was only obvious that I choose that name. Look up "Mobius Strip" in Google Images to see what it looks like. |
Quote (kirbs @ May 07 2007, 8:18 pm) |
I've had kirbs as an alias since my third year at school (7 years) After having the name that long, it's hard to drop. it's become as much a part of me as my left foot. |
Quote (Kiska Nirpaw @ Dec. 13 2007, 9:26 pm) |
Well I posted about "jellybeans"...might as well say where this one came from... Basically since I had a slight fursona change, and am mainly Siberian Husky, I figured my fursona needed a Russian name to match her origins. Kiska sounded the best. (pronounced "Kish-ka") Nirpaw is my SL last name. |

Hornwolf is my current (and favourite) sona. She's large, moody, snarly, shaggy and had two large sharp horns protruding from her head |
Well it was Paws, then someone started calling me Pawsies and it's slightly similar to my real name and I really liked it :)I had nothing to do with it I swear
It was all his fault apart from my liking of it :PWell it was Paws, then someone started calling me Pawsies and it's slightly similar to my real name and I really liked it :)I had nothing to do with it I swear

I haven't really got a name for my fursona left, but i do like the name Ieyosu (ee-ay-os-oo). In a game called Samurai Warriors there is a character called "Iesyu Tokugawa" (ee-ay-os-oo, Toke-oo-gawa) and i think the name sound awesum.
Sweet, i didnt know that lol. ty for pointing it out :DI haven't really got a name for my fursona left, but i do like the name Ieyosu (ee-ay-os-oo). In a game called Samurai Warriors there is a character called "Iesyu Tokugawa" (ee-ay-os-oo, Toke-oo-gawa) and i think the name sound awesum.
That's a really important historical dude (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tokugawa_Ieyasu), just so you know. It'd be like naming your fursona George Washington or Alfred the Great or something. :D
Wow awesome story there Kyla! I don't know why, but I liked it!
I dont know why I like this name..... it just screams awesome to me if i were to have a kid i would want to name it goliath if it was a boy...just to dispel some ideas, my name did NOT come from the old cartoon gargoyles.
A name for the German Shepherd Dog, used during and after World War I due to anti-German and pro-French sentiment. It is chiefly used in the United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland and the Commonwealth of Nations.
The choice of 49q as appended characters is due to my math geekiness. At the age that I came up with 49q (I was about 13), I considered it "cool" that the square of 7 was only one away from half of 100, and I also found it "cool" that the 7th prime had a 7 in the one's digit, and that the corresponding letter q was as uncommon a letter as 17 was a number. Even when it is possible for me to get a username without appended characters (for example, on these forums), I still append the 49q because it feels as much a part of me as the base of my username.
First I gave each letter of the alphabet a prime value. (A=2, B=3, C=5, D=7...) And then I found the product of the values for the letters in my name. Then I made a chart of letter sounds. Not the alphabet, but the sounds, so for example 'c' had to go because it doesn't have it's own sound, but things like 'ch' and 'th' were added. More important, this added a LOT more vowel sounds, which is what I wanted. Anyway, I then took the value I got from my name and converted it to base 37. (I think it was. anyway the base was the number of sounds I had on my chart) And than assigned the corresponding sounds from my chart. And I got V-ar-ar-a-m.
Yes, I'm kind of proud of the origins of my name 'cause it's all mathy and geeky and stuff. 8)
It's official. You win the geeky name selection award. Thanks :)
...thinking of changing soon though
i get Renard from Renamon originally named Renard.
Great thread with many great names. Kolebra is yiddish and as far as I can tell I am hebrew, at least I feel a strong connection to Israel.

I didn't know that word. Thanks for the vocab lesson in Yiddish :)
I just picked mine off a map.Is in Uzbekstan aye?
Is in Uzbekstan aye?Quite so.
I... am not even going to begin to try to understand that picture. Now I feel bad for getting it.
After much debate I settled on Peregrin as a first name, because it still sounded like an English name but also one that you might not hear too often. It serves to show my slightly sceptical, serious and sometimes aloof side. I initially avoided this name for ages, mostly because I wanted to avoid confusion with the Peregrine Falcon. But I kept coming back to it because it felt and sounded good. In the end I accepted it and decided to weave my initial dislike of it into my character. I am VERY picky about my real life human name, it's not hard to spell but so many people get it wrong and I think it's just bad manners if you can't learn how to spell someone's name!I always thought your name refers to Peregrin Tuk of the Lord of the Ring series (in return, I haven't heard of the Peregrine Falcon yet :P). To be honest, I didn't know that this name actually exists outside of these books. But I know how you feel about the misspelling. It's not exactly the same, but people tend to write my real name the wrong way, even though it's only an accent they omit. (I can't even have it in my driving license, only God knows why. As if accents in names are rare...)
Originally Traitos was chosen because to me, it sounded cool. However, As time passed I found myself creating a culture for him and his race for a story I've tried and tried to work on. Thus, with this culture came a language, when I wrote it out I noticed I can spell Traitos in it and when I translated it, the name came out to be Wolf. This creeped me out because Traitos was a wolf before I ever worked on the language. o_o;:o
Eddy is just simply based on my real name (can anybody guess?) although my official furname, Edwolf, is basically a combination of my real name and my species.Edward, Edwin, Edmond? :D

My username is LoneFurry because im the only furry of all my friends. My main furry charicters name is Ulric because it means "Wolf Power" even though he is a fox. :3
my name came from a book i read about the stories in the bible
i guess the name Lilith just stuck :D
I have no fursona yet and "Dysax" is more an account name, than a fursona name. "Dysax" is built of the first three letters of the element "Dysprosium" and a random chosen -ax ending. (:Why did you choose Dysprosium as the base for you name?
I haven't really thought about that, actually. My username here was thought of off the top of my head in a few seconds - I didn't want to use my normal username due to some trolls on another website, so it wouldn't be my fursona's name. Also, seeing as my fursona is pretty much me in personality, I would probably just use my real name. You know, looking back, I probably could have chosen a better random username then what I have now... I've seen, what, 4 people with this username on other sites now? Well, at least I don't stand out a whole lot, which was more or less one of my intents. :P
I was originaly "Onion Knight". Being that my fursona was an Onion Knight Moogle. But Knights are few and between these days. So I shortened it to "Onion" to suit. and plus its easier to say and spell less letters and word. ha ha
I've played WoW for a long time and and took elements for the names of my characters. One of these characters I called Dysprosium. When I was in a group, they called me Dys and now it has a new ending, thats all. I've played WoW for a long timeSweet! Another person who plays WoW! A majority of my time these days has been spent leveling my Worgen. Just for Liedt though, I will divulge that my main is a Tauren, and I love her to death...
i havent picked a nime yet but i need some help, can you help me. :(Well here is an idea.
I play a lot of Final Fantasy, so I didn't really give it a whole lot of though, but I also don't see many people with the name Zantetsuken.
I was a fan of the 'warrior cats' series by Erin Hunter and so obviously I had an OC called Scarlegs (My screen name).
I then decided to shorten her name to Scar (From a little inspiration from Snookumsgal on DeviantArt)
She then became my fursona, with her very own name! (Didn't even have to think of her name 8) )
Her last name (Katt) just came later and stuck!
Yeh, nothing too special.
First I tried to figure out which cultural name set I wanted to look in and then I went through and read every name for that culture listed on babynames.com. After many hours I finally stumbled across the Japanese name Kazutaka.
The meaning of the name Kazutaka is Peace, Harmony, Calm, Precious, Valuable
This tended to not only fit my understanding of my fursona but automatically had a ring to it that made it feel right.
youtube video saw the name Zef liked the name but i liked it more as Zeff so thats what i named my fursona. if i ever were to become a furry in really life ild most likely change my name to Zeff.
