Registry cleaning and other things to tidy up.
« on: August 04, 2016, 12:41:06 pm »
I had a game program tell me it couldn't run because I had a registry problem.

Any suggestions on a good registry cleaner. I noticed C Cleaner has a new
name, so I don't know what that's about.

So many computer cleaners out there. I really don't want one that adds malware
or other junk to my computer. I have had some tell me a clean install needed
cleaning. Trying to get me to buy it I am sure.. :P

What operating system is your computer on?

Thanks for the response Doc.

Windows 7 pro. Is the operating system I am concerned about. Though I do have
Windows 10 on the same computer. No problem noticed with 10 at this time.

I still keep windows 7 because it works better for older software.. The game I had
problems with was "World of Warcraft"  I am using Win 10 for playing it now, and it
works fine. So I am in no hurry.

Glad you have a Windows system. I don't know anything about Macintosh OS, or Linux, or just about anything else. Before I upgraded to Windows 10, I occasionally got a registry error in Windows 7. Have you tried defragmenting your hard drive? If you have and it didn't work, try using AVG Anti-Virus to help. I forgot exactly how to do it, because I got rid of AVG a while ago, but that certainly fixed it for me. Hope that helps.

Make sure you do NOT format your drive.

Thanks Doc

I will give all that a try.

I have never cared for Apple computers, they have always been pricey,
and require purchase of their accessories.

I wish the Amiga had not been discontiued. It was the best
overall home usable computer of it's time. 1985. Apple couldn't
touch it for gaming, sound, or graphics. It had plug n play and
muititasking years ahead of the others. But Commodor decided to
stop producing it for some reason. Seems odd as the Amiga was
very popular in Europe. I have heard it was looked down on as
a game machine, and not considered for professional use. At
least here in the USA.. Ironic as a few years later games were
a big use for home computers.(The PC) Even though they were
poor in performace. Oh well that's all history, now games are
in virtual 3d on PC's

What are you talking about? It was never discontinued, it just... well...

But Commodor decided to stop producing it for some reason.
They didn't stop producing it, they just stopped improving it, allowing IBM to close the performance gap, with the result that PCs took over the gaming world and Commodore went bankrupt. The assets were sold to Escom, who only released a few new Amiga models before they themselves went bankrupt and were bought out by Gateway, who sold off the Amiga brand, rightly believing it to be cursed, and that's why Gateway is still in business. A bunch of companies (Amino, Eyetech, some others I'm forgetting) kept playing hot potato with Amiga, and it's currently in the hands of Hyperion Entertainment (who now develop AmigaOS) and A-EON Technology (who build Amiga hardware). If you want a modern Amiga computer, go to A-EON - before they sell the rights to someone else. :D

Your right Foxpup. Commodore did stop improving the Amiga with  the 4000
model. I read that the people doing the developement were complaining because
the company wasn't  letting them make the improvements it needed.

And I was trying not to place blame even though I had read that the popularity of
the Amiga was greatly slowing expansion of the IBM PC to Europe and the rest of
the world.

I think most of us can understand why some might have wished for the demise of a
competive system, especially at that time.

If anyone wishes to continue discussing the Amiga please start a new thread.

Did you get your problem resolved?  Registry errors could be all sorts of things; for future reference I've used CCleaner for years (same name, it hasn't changed) and I've never hosed a system with it on its default settings, which are pretty tame.  XP, 7, 8, 8.1, 10....always has worked for me.  Do it about once a month to keep things running smoothly.

Not yet.. Thanks for telling me Ccleaner hasn't changed. I do have a question though.
Do you have their home page url?

I will see if I can find their homepage. A net search comes up with several pages for
Ccleaner.. I am sure some are wanting to give a person some adware/malware along
with a so called free download.

Thanks.. I downloaded it and tried Ccleaner, but it didn't fix it.. It may be
the .dll is installed by the game. Every thing else seems to work. So
I may try reinstalling the game to see if that works.
