New look to my webpages!
« on: February 02, 2004, 11:35:18 am »
I have updated my webpage with a new look to go with the new year. I hope all can view the backgrounds! If not, let me know and I will see what I can do about it.

Updated New Look!

Looks good!
"Beyond the darkness is a door to the light,
A door to your soul...

When darkness falls
Allow the light of your heart to guide you

Hope burns brighter than any star
And will shine long after the last star dies"

(giggles) Thanks. Did you have any problems loading the background pic?

D'oh. Those full-width text chunks are hard to read. Or rather, could be easier to read - magazines and newspapers like to columnize their text. It makes it easier to follow and look nicer.

All the links from http://www.kada-ru.furtopia.org/adult/adult.htm are broken... I'm guessing you're in the middle of an update or something?

http://www.kada-ru.furtopia.org/2003/index.shtml

Links "Adults Only", "'Trades 2003'" and "Other Art" (the small links) seem to be broken.

I really liked in http://www.kada-ru.furtopia.org/2003/non_anthro/ac_2003.html how you showed how your artwork evolved. It's pretty nifty and offers a glimpse into how you construct your images.

http://www.kada-ru.furtopia.org/ac_2004/general/index.shtml is pretty nifty. I like how you roll-over your links. I wonder if the centre image and comments can be left there until you mouseover a different link. Can it be centred too? The background is nice too - I wasn't sure about it at first, but I think it adds atmosphere.

http://www.kada-ru.furtopia.org/adult/index.shtml can be a little hard to read. I recommend some kind of solid background just for the text (ie. in a div or a table). That way you can keep your background image. '<img'>

The navigation system is a little sprawling, but it's simple, and it works. I really like it. Only other criticism (other than the horizontally wide text) is that some of the backgrounds are really large... byte-wise. Then again, it /is/ an image gallery, so dial-up users are going to have to spend a while letting the pages load anyway.

By the way... I adore your web board avatar/icon. It's beautiful. '<img'>
Oh, faint memory trickles, that is all; like a stream that rustles forgotten leaves and lost paths.

(looks at page to see what you see) Gotcha. I will see what I can do with that. (smiles)

Yes, I have been upgrading. Ok, all fixed now. (smiles)

I was doing that a lot when I wasn't coloring my original sketches. I still scan the sketches but figured folks would rather see the colorized versions instead, hence the new look in 2004.

Now, my sketches are getting so detailed it isn't worth trying to resketch the original sketch any more so I just scan the sketch then color the original.

Thank you for the compliment, Wtcher.

I will have to check about it holding till you mouse over another link. As for centering, what are you talking about? The images once the mouse is over the link, it is centered in the middle between the two sides. Was there something else you were talking about? I am continuously learning new stuff so feel free to suggest things.

I agree and for the moment just added a white background for the text and will come up with something later. A better look or something so it doesn't take away from the photo or the text.

(giggles) Sprawling? I will see if I can make the images a bit smaller in size without losing the quality.

(giggles) Thanks. Ulario did it for me in a trade. It is a small section of the larger pic she did. She did a great job on my character. (smiles)

It's certainly doable - the holding the image. I once wrote a three-image rollover that did that, but that was a long time ago.

Anyway, this is what I mean about it being off-centred:

By the way, I rather like that sketch too. ^_^

*nods* I think red on black may look better, but it is just temporary anyway. '<img'>

Sprawling is nice. ^_^ Part of navigating a website is exploring and finding new things. If you have all the links in one spot, that makes navigation really really convenient, but not quite as... fun? 0'<img'> Think of museums - stuff is laid out in such a fashion that you're always stumbling into nooks and crannies and discovering new pieces, or being led on by strange and mysterious passageways... or something. Some people don't like that, but part of the fun is in exploring. Then again, I tend to create easy-to-navigate sites, but that's partly because I'm lazy, and partly because of the content I usually work with.

You have all the important links in one spot, and smaller links leading off from other pages.

Well, I do know if you move the mouse downward or upwards as long as you are on the link the pic stays up and then move to the next link then the new pic comes up. I will see what I can come up with.

Ah! You are using something larger than 800x600 pixels. (giggles)

I'm starting to learn more about style sheets so I may try and figure out something when I have time. My site has to come second to work but slowly but surely I will eventually get done! (giggles)

I do have something in mind for the text and when I have some time I will try it. (smiles) stay tuned! '<img'>

I try to keep everything the same. Of course, since I did the upgrade for 2004 I didn't feel like making the whole site the same upgrade. A lot of work for that design. (phew) Also, it shows what it DID look like to what it does now. Sort of like showing the improvements. If that is what you are talking about. From the different years.

*grin* Two steps above, actually (1152x). I even find /that/ too small when I'm working on work. I would like to get another 17" display or, preferably, an LCD monitor so I can stow it away when I don't need two screens. I don't typically like the look of LCDs 'though - they're much too bright. On the other hand, they're very crisp and clear... which I do! =)

Style sheets are fabulous. I do almost everything in styles now, whether or not I have an external sheet. It's very nice how you can change the look of an infinite amount of pages just by editing the styles sheet. I also find the tags seem a lot more understandable, and helps keep the page source very neat and very tidy.

Hmm... it's kind of hard to read. It might be my resolution, though... but...

Not a problem. Critiquing is fun... well, when it isn't poetry. *g*

I think it would be hard too to critique poetry as there as many different styles. I like the artwork. Much easier to visualize. (giggles)
