Your Favorite Movie Soundtracks
« on: March 03, 2013, 11:15:30 am »
What were some of the most memorable movie or game soundtracks that you've heard?  What soundtracks really completed the emotion in a scene, or even the entire movie/game?  Do you listen to the soundtrack by itself?

Hans Zemmer. ANYTHING by Hans Zemmer. He did the gladiator soundtrack, not to mention crimson tide and black hawk down.
Hey, I have a DA:

Okay.  I'll start with three.

1).  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sBr3-TGxYOc
'Anya By The Stars' from video game *To The Moon*
I really love the gentle melodies of this game.  What makes game so emotional is the strong and well built story line which works in harmony with the music.  The music works with the story to help simulate the environment and emotions.  If you prefer a more happy song look at 'Take me anywhere'

2). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SvtaNQw4sGA
"Maestro" from the Film *The Holiday*
I love the melody of this song and how it constantly moves from one theme to another.  The music is actually the main reason why I love this film so much.

3). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6k-2utGxfQg
"Rogue Heart" from the Video Game *Dragon Age 2*
I like the fusion of the drums with the melody line.  Theres this sort of swelling emotion of strength and determination that comes to it.  I just hear it and suddenly I have energy and I want to move.

I'll post more on request but I love scores and music from Screens and Video Games
Hope this is efficient :)

Oooo oooo! I love this thread!  :D

I have been enjoying soundtracks my whole life. It's only been recently I've been super into collecting soundtracks-I have been into purchasing them separately for the past decade or so. When I played the violin actively in high school, I really enjoyed being part of a play's musical score (it was the only time live musicians were cast in the plays) and I've loved orchestral soundtracks ever since.

Soundtracks make the film or video game, in my opinion. Without a beautiful soundtrack to match compelling themes or actions, the film or game just falls flat. I've always been stirred by music, ever since I was a little one, and it's a big part of who I am.  (:

Here are my picks of favorite film/video game scores and composers (I'll list a few to spare you a spam alert lol):

(1) Howard Shore-The Lord of the Rings-Fellowship of the Ring and The Hobbit
YouTube Links: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7CXGG3_prGA and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpRJYQtitYQ
If you have not heard of him or these songs by now...time to crawl out from under your rock and give these a listen! I love, love, LOVE these soundtracks, these have to be my all time favorites. Ever. Just...aqijriewfniewfmiw...yeah.  :-[

(2) Blizzard Entertainment-World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria
YouTube Links: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SzJH3Z8n-Ho
I have to say, WoW has upped the ante music wise with this rendition of the Warcraft expansion Mists of Pandaria. The direct Chinese influence could not be more beautifully interwoven with the epic questing music of the Warcraft universe. Give it a listen!

(3) Hans Zimmer- The Lion King Original Score, Spirit Stallion of the Cimarron, and Pirates of the Caribbean
YouTube Links: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aubjzXHYKs4, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tLUaKyQGxuo, and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V_C74ejc7aA
Hans Zimmer is the go to soundtrack guy for Hollywood when it comes to action flicks and major motion pictures. He's a 90s and 00s icon. If you aren't familiar with him...okay, you must have really been living under a rock.  :P The power of his music is beyond words.

(4) John Williams- Jurassic Park
YouTube Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOmJLk1lu08
If I didn't list this, my life would have no meaning. Listen. to. it. NAOW.

(5) Henry Jackman- Puss in Boots
YouTube Links: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Twr-ZMfB9gg, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rOVC4NY8Q-A
This movie had a surprisingly funny and touching score. Give it a listen!  :D

If I come up with more to list, I will in time.  (:

Elder Scrolls does have a good soundtrack, I just don't play the game. Final Fantasy is not my cup of tea, unfortunately.  :-[

All of farcry 3's soundtrack, it was very emotional
hans zimmer's music
Inon zur's music for the fallout 3 game, again really captured the dystopian theme and emotion.
the soundtrack to the film, Moon, really set the atmosphere
and so many more!!....

Radiant Historia - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=En1E4y3Zjd8
Yoko Shimomura is REALLY REALLY talented. She's also known for her work on Super Mario RPG and Kingdom Hearts, among other things. In any other game, anything this epic would be a boss theme.

Final Fantasy X - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-0G_FI61a8
Uematsu, 'nuff said.

Avatar - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5DMVbQNirA0
James Horner. Wrote Somewhere Out There.

Silent Hill 2 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LB7LZZGpkw
..Yamaoka.

and so..so many more.

Not that music is much my thing, but I do have a few of these. Can't think of many right now, but I do remember--

Owl City's 'To the Sky'. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ukgvTE3A0Ic
Made for the animated movie of The Legend of the Guardians. I don't even know why I liked this, but it's given me goosebumps every time I've listened to it, ever since I saw the movie in the cinemas. I guess I melt over a happy, bubbly, sugary tune, and the lyrics stir the optimist in me. I'm mostly optimist.

Also 'The Drunken Whaler' from the trailer for Dishonored. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=urV8MIcLDFk
I know this one has received a lot of praise. It's clever, and creepy, and... clever. But it's also really good at it's core, too. That makes a killer combination for any kind of artwork.

I like it in the film, but I don't have it in my playlist.  It is excellent in setting the mood for the film and emphasizing the drama.

The Alamo - The Last Night

This music appeals to the wolfish side of me sooooo very much.  <3
