FL Studio

I just recently rebuilt my computer (obviously for the better) and I reinstalled FL Studio.  Problem is, I go into FL Studio and all the samples (like drums, pads, or vocals) appear red.  I can't play them, they make no noise.  I go into the file where the actual sound file is located and open it with a media player such as Winamp or Windows Media Player, and it says there is a missing audio codec.  I don't know why I don't have it or where to get it, NOR what codec it is...If any of you have advice please say because I'm tired of listening to Scott Fischer's Moholithic Filter without drums...

Sorry AussieRoo, don't think  I can help with this.  However I suggest you create an account on the KVR Audio Forum.  There are a lot of FL Studio users who post on that forum and one of them may be able to help you.

A codec is what tells the computer how to decompress the audio file -- you just need to find out what type of file it is (.wav, .mp3, .ogg, .au, etc) and download the codecs for that type of file -- you can usually download them for free.  It's also possible the codecs you have on your computer got deleted or are corrupted.

To get to them in Windows XP right-click on my computer and go to properties and then the hardware tab then device mgr. and then maximise sound, video and game controllers and then double-click audio codecs and go to properties.  That will show you what audio codecs are in your computer.

Earlier versions of Windows I think its in control panels then multimedia in a tab there, somewhere.

Thanks for the help.  I don't have much time to go to that other forum and I checked what kind of file it is and it doesn't say.  I'll lool around some more later.  Thanks again.
