We got em... As many of the irc frequenters have noticed the irc has been going up and down mostly at night. This is due to Time Warner's failure or willingness to fix problems on their lines in this area. I have spent hours for many weeks on the phone with them and their only solution is always replace the modem even then the problem is the lines and is obvious to the techs this is the problem. Plus the foreign techs will demand every computer in the house has a problem when the cable sync light won't even come on in the modem.
I hope to solve this problem in two ways. First we are moving to PA and I'm hoping the new monopoly is more thoughtful to their customers. For this transition the net will go down on the 28th and resume in the new location on the 30th. Second as we have had in the past I would like to get a second irc server running ( irc2.furtopia.org ). That way if users have problems with one server they can simply hop over to the backup without having to endure down times. Both servers will be linked so all chat will be seen on both servers. I'll post a time frame for this service in the next couple days as we learn more of our options.

Many thanks for keeping everyone in the loop. It's kind of tough to fix troubles that are not of your doing, but moving your home to so the servers run better is a bit extreme! ;) :D

How sad. You'd think we'd be a bit more mature considering the actual IRC has been out for just a week.

I'm trying to sort this issue out at the moment but least to say I'm not happy. The IRC has been good at moderating itself and for this to happen is saddening. I am however please that some have brought this to the staffs attention before it got really bad.
Many hugs and cookies to those that sent PM's to me and other staff about this issue.
For those who caused trouble: I will review what I have to give yourselves a chance to explain your actions and decide if any action on my part needs to be taken.

It's not like we are already revered as sexual deviants and then some people don't have the self control and respect for others to not participate in these sorts of actions. You know who I'm talking about. I too am deeply disappointed with said people. I thought furries were better than this. This just goes to show that some people can't handle their own freedoms. All I have to say is... why?

While the idea/IRC site, etc. that Chris had set up was noble and good, The seperate server site that he had directed people towards was unmoderated and uncensored. Some people who used the Furtopia channel that was set up there were having chats and discussions that were putting Furtopia and it's memberbase "in a bad light" so to speak. >:( Therefore, Links to Chris's alternative IRC stuff have been removed.

I'll go ahead and say it simply, then. The link to the IRC was on our servers. The IRC was not family-friendly, and the OPs had no intention to follow those guidelines we had set. Because of that, it broke two rules:
3. This is a PG rated (Family Friendly) board.
If you've noticed, we don't allow links to things that aren't family friendly.
9. Individuals are not allowed to explicitly advertise or recruit on Furtopia forums and live chat (Furtopia IRC) for other forums, communities, or projects.
The IRC is not affiliated with Furtopia (since it was explicitly said that they would not listen to WS), and because of that, we disallow advertisement for it here. You guys are free to have an IRC, and we really have no power about what name you use. However, it's not appropriate for these forums.

Using the furtopia name without consent of the staff and WS/Kada is against the rules anyway. Furtopia is a registered charity and anything that can put a black mark against it's name won't look good at all. Chris/Awkray had made it clear in the topic that it was family friendly and a temporary place for the furtopia IRC. It even links to furtopia.org in the channel info. That means ALL rules have to be followed as it comes up our name whether it's on a server we own or not.

Yeah, for whatever reason, those ISP's like to take forever to get those set up. And also, they never seem to get it set up quite right on the first try.
Glad you're back up and running, though. Hope the move went well, internet connection delays aside.

I leave the fandom for a few days and oh boy. As for the alternate site falling apart im deeply embarased by that. I meant that to be a place we could huddle until irc was back up. To those who took advantage of it, SHAME ON YOU! BAD DOG! Now if feel that it was a bad idea to even set it up in the first place. By doing what you did, you bring shame on me and my intentions. As for the Admins of furtopia. I am very sorry I used the name. I meant no harm. I just wanted to keep us together and chatting. If i were not removed from the irc, id have you kick me off. Syi, I hope you were able to use the password and do what you needed. I will never set up a room like that again. Hopefully i will return to the irc some day and when i do i hope that I will still be welcomed back despite the rule infractions.

Chris, don't worry too much about things. We know you were trying to help, and it lasted for a while. Just... we have ops for a reason, and it's hard to keep things together and family-friendly without a full staff to back it.
I'm glad that you tried it, but if you want to do something like this in the future, contact Syi or some of the other ops. If you have their backing and help, things can work out well :)
*hugs* You're always welcome to the forums, man, and I'm sure you'll be alright in the IRC. You just tried to help, and there's no reason for us to be angry about that.

I don't understand why the back-up chat turned into something (what I am assuming is inappropriate and the 'media' view of furries etc) that could've just... been... taken to some private channel if people just HAD to do that sort of thing...? >:(
I hope the main server is back up soon. It's very lonely here in Melbourne -shoulder starts icing over from lack of socialising-

You can click on where it says ChatRoom (http://irc.furtopia.org) near the top of the page, enter a nick name, and click the [Chat on IRC!] button and that will get you there.
Or you can set up a chat client to connect to irc.furtopia.org:6007 and join the channel #Furtopia.

I've received a report that the IRC is currently redirecting to a different site. From what I know, this isn't supposed to happen. Is anyone else using a client experiencing the same problem? If so, please, post here. We want to get this worked out as quickly as possible.

My client just fails to connect. Not redirecting me or anything, though.

Alright... I'm getting the same thing, and someone else said the same thing, too. We'll try to get in contact with Weisse as soon as possible to get things running again.

My client is similar to Ziel in the problem. No redirection, just failure to connect so far.

I've placed a call to WS and Kada-Ru. They'll check on the IRC as soon as they can.

I talked to WS briefly and found that after he turned off the power to the house yesterday briefly that we forgot to make sure the IRC computer was turned back on. I turned it back on a few minutes ago but both I and Kobuk are still having problems with the IRC. He gets a redirect while I get nothing. I let WS know and when he can he will check things out to see why it is messing up.

The IRC is very flakey at the moment, and has been down all day as far as I can tell (it is now 9PM here). Teething issues with the new server still?
