What furry media do you have?
« on: August 14, 2016, 01:40:50 pm »
Most of us at least have some furry type media at home. Books, movies, music, or other media types. What do you all have in your furry media collections, if anything? I'm only talking about media here. Not furry plushies, tshirts, jewlery, etc.  That can be a topic for a different time/thread.

Here's my "furry" list:

BOOKS:
Call of the Wild/White Fang
I used to have a book called Creatura long ago. Loaned it out to somebody, but never got it back.  :(

MUSIC:
Wolf's Rain anime soundtrack.

MOVIES/TV SHOWS:
Bitter Lake (Short movie made by furry fandom fursuiters.)
The Boy and the Beast (Anime)
Call of the Wild tv series
The Chronicles of Narnia 1988-1990 BBC tv series collection

LEGO Legends of Chima – Quest for the Legend Beasts

This will take a while, and I can't fathom how I managed to keep all this stuff in a one bedroom apartment for eight years.  Now that I'm in a larger place, I shake my head in wonder at my organized pack rat self.

Books / Magazines

Brian Jacques - Redwall, I own just about every novel in the series except four or so of them in the middle--so 18 novels.
M.I. McCallister - Mistmantle Chronicles, all 5 novels that came out in the series
Kathryn Lasky - Guardians of Ga'Hoole, almost all of the books on the warriors, I don't have the ones about the tales, only ones that advanced the original plot, so 12 novels
Paulette Bourgeouis and Brenda Clark - Franklin, about 12 books, really enjoy Clark's art in these
Ken Forsse - Adventures of Teddy Ruxpin - about 12 of the books, along with their tapes; no Teddy Ruxpin though, pretty certain he broke and I've just never bought another one
Stephen Cosgrove and Robin James - Serendipity series - I must own about 40 of these simple storybooks with really nice artwork
nwf.org's Ranger Rick - I'm the semi-official historical curator for the magazine since I have the largest private collection, so I own just about every issue from 1967 to 2000 so roughly 350 magazine copies give or take; I keep a website online for people to visit about this and I've had quite a few ask for help finding an issue because the actual organization doesn't have the information

Music

Fox Amoore - FA Collection 6, some of 7, and Ballad of Midnight (new age/soundtrack furry artist)

Movie (+ soundtrack on cd when applicable)

101 Dalmations + soundtrack
All Dogs Go to Heaven + soundtrack
An American Tail + soundtrack
Balto + soundtrack
Balto 3 - Wings of Change
Bambi + soundtrack
Brother Bear + soundtrack & promo score
Charlotte's Web (1970s animated one)
Chicken Run + soundtrack
Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers (vol 1 and 2)
Darkwing Duck (vol 1 and 2)
Dynomutt Dog Wonder
Emmett Otter's Jug Band Christmas
Finding Nemo
Fox and the Hound
Franklin TV Series
Garfield and Friends (some episodes on dvd)
Happy Feet
Ice Age Continental Drift
Kung Fu Panda (1 + 2)
Laff a Lympics (most episodes on DVD)
Land Before Time + soundtrack
Legend of the Guardians + soundtrack
Lion King + soundtrack
Little Bear (some episodes on dvd)
Looney Tunes (multiple collections)
Monsters University
Muppet Christmas Carol
Muppet Treasure Island
Over the Hedge + soundtrack
Pinky and the Brain (vol. 1 + 2)
Plague Dogs (uncut version)
Planet of the Apes
Rescuers Down Under + soundtrack
Rise of the Guardians + soundtrack
Robin Hood (1970s animated)
Rocky and Bullwinkle (some episodes on DVD)
Scooby Doo - Where are You? (seasons 1,2,3)
Scooby Doo Mask of the Blue Falcon
Scooby and Scrappy Doo (season 1)
Secret of NIMH + soundtrack
Tom & Jerry (vol. 1)
Valiant
Watership Down + soundtrack
Watership Down TV Series + soundtrack
Zootopia + soundtrack

Whew...I think that's all of it. :)  Like my title says, I spend a lot on books, dvds/blu-ray and cds.

Found a children's book based on a true story--Honk The Moose. Also on about a police dog named Gloria.

A number of WB cartoon compilation videos. Also Renny The Fox, The Fantastic Mr. Fox, Brother Bear, a compilation DVD of HB's Loopy De Loop, and Zootopia.

The Rocket Raccoon comic book mini-series by Marvel. Also many of the Spectacular Spider Ham comics.

I saved many of the WB Studio Store catalogs and have a collection of Christmas ornaments and decorations from the store.
"The coyote is a living, breathing allegory of Want. He is always hungry. He is always poor, out of luck, and friendless. The meanest creatures despise him. And even the fleas would dessert him for a velocipide."~Mark Twain

I started collecting the books long ago, but only got as far as 4-5, then gave up. Lost interest I guess.  :P

All known Pokemon Movies (I consider a number of Pokemon anthro)

100% agree.  Mewtwo talks, walks on two legs, can "speak" so to speak. ;)  Lucario also is anthro and can talk normally (at the least the film one could, I've seen a later episode or two where a Lucario couldn't talk).  I wouldn't go so far as to say something like a Pikachu is anthro because he walks on fours and can't do much more than speak its own name.  Save for a few in their own movies, most Pokemon are not anthro by definition.

@Kobuk - Redwall has a formula and very black and white characters.  Its extremely predictable as a series so it does lose its spunk after a few novels.  There were a few gems thrown in, like how I thought the Taggerrung might have actually gave us our first "bad" otter or Veil might have been the first "good" stoat in the series to show that you aren't good or bad based on your species.  Tagg was a disappointment because I thought for sure it would have shown how nurturing affects the person.  Veil , I still consider very much a grey character in the end even though it was written at the end he was a "bad stoat" in the eyes of the badger in the story.  I disagreed with that cop out and think Veil was very difference saving his nursemaid from death from his ruthless father.

I'm still unpacking all my media after moving house, so I'll be brief and just list a few favorites per category...

Books:
-Watership Down (one of my top three favorite novels ever)
-Catwings (a children's book by Ursula K. Le Guin, who is also one of my favorite sci-fi/fantasy writers-- I only have the first of her catwings books. Not anthropomorphic physically, but I'm counting animals who talk to each other)
-Fox Bunny Funny (graphic novel)

Movies:
-Zootopia (oh man, so much)
-Cats Don't Dance
-Robin Hood
-The Great Mouse Detective (possibly my favorite Disney movie, since I'd been obsessed with Sherlock Holmes since childhood anyway)
-The Rescuers/Rescuers Down Under
-An American Tail/Fievel Goes West

Other:
-Sonic the Hedgehog (SatAM series, and the games from the Genesis days through SA2-- I used to collect the Archie comics maybe... oof, twenty years ago? And for a while I liked them quite a lot, though I passed my collection down to a younger sibling and haven't really checked in much on the comics since... Even if I don't always like the current output, I have a lot of love for the franchise overall based on my own childhood with it)
-I used to have the Bubsy games as well, but I doubt they made the move since I don't think the Genesis still works...
-I have a set of beautiful framed prints of little cats dressed up in Venetian carnival costumes.

Books:

Angela Carter:  "The Bloody Chamber"   -  A collection of short fiction based on folk tales. The most famous is probably "The Company of Wolves", which was turned into a feature film.
This book was my therian "oh!" moment.

CJ Cherryh:  "the Chanur Series."  - This anthropomorphic space opera got me into the furry fandom.

Franz Kafka: "the Metamorphosis." - Gregory Samza wakes up one morning to discover he's no longer a human.  Too bad he turns into a bug and not a wolf - ah well, can't have it all...

Various: "Furries Among Us" - a great selection of essays about the furry fandom.

Sisco: "Dyeing to be with you"(sic). A furry romance between two gay bears is normally (way, way) out of my comfort zone, but the author is a friend - and a great writer.

Film:
Furries,  a documentary by Eric Risher - Despite having a running time of a mere thirty minutes, it covers a lot of ground.
Le Renard et L'enfant - French Friendship between a fox and a girl.
the Animals of Farthing Wood - It's poorly animated, but it features a badger protagonist.

Music:
Camel : The Snow Goose -  British rock group turned Paul Gallico's novella about friendship between a girl and a goose into an impressive instrumental piece of prog.[/size]

- and finally

Leos Janacek - "The Cunning Little Vixen."  Nature and humans clash in this Czech opera awesome from 1924. Now, this is how to furry !

I have a few books here and there. I actually just bought vol 1 of Otters in Space at MFF ^^

I also had the occasional piece of art that I plan to hang up once I'm out of my parents house. In addition, at MFF this year I picked up an extremely NSFW fridge sticker which I..again, won't be able to put up anywhere as long as I live with my parents.

If I'm not too mistaken, I think there were 1-2 movies based on the books. I'm pretty sure I remember seeing the first.

I'm pretty sure there is a live action movie or tv series of this too, though I've never seen any of it.

You are correct. The Anonymous Rex novel was made into a Sci-Fi Channel special and the Dinotopia series was turned into a miniseries on TV. I haven't watched either, and from what I know both were MST3K fare.  :P
