Title: IRC Web Client Legalese
Post by: redyoshi49q on August 14, 2012, 08:29:51 pm
I noticed this a few days ago, since I recently had to use somebody else's computer to access the IRC.

The IRC web interface has a landing page (http://irc.furtopia.org) and a page for the actual client (http://irc.furtopia.org/chat.php) (my link lacks host/port/username data in the URL, so the java client crashes; the rest of the page still appears as it otherwise would).  At the bottom of the webpage for the web client itself (the second of the two pages), there's a block of text, which is quoted below.

Quote
Furtopia web hosting community, "furtopia.org" and all its' original works Copyright © 2001.

Web page hosting and furtopia.org are provided to the furry community by: WhiteShepherd and Kada-Ru.

I formatted the above text to look like the text on that page; as such, "furtopia.org" is in green text, and "Whiteshepherd" and "Kada-Ru" are formatted as if they were links.  Since the original web page has a white background, though, the rest of the text cannot be seen on the original page without highlighting.

It's a tiny thing, but it still seemed to be worth mentioning.

I'll see if Weisseman or WS will be able to correct that. ;)

They're Mailto:links.  They contain the email addresses for Kada-Ru and WhiteShepherd.

You can right click and copy the email address in most browsers,  or if you have a default mailing client set up clicking the links will open a new message to that email address.

I know what those links on the original page are.  I formatted my text such that those words appeared as links instead of actually making them links.  I didn't want to fiddle with BBC code to try and figure out how to accomplish the same thing (and didn't realize at the time that there's a button for that on the post composition page...).

...I probably could have been more clear, though.  Sorry about the confusion.

Adding on to this…

The copyright in the "landing page (http://irc.furtopia.org)" has a literal “c” in place of the proper circle c “©” copyright symbol.

(For convenience, © = U+00A9)

I see what is happening and WS will have to see if I can still access where this page is in order for me to fix it.  I agree, it is a problem.
