Title: Mobile Web Site
Post by: warriorsfan1812 on January 22, 2012, 05:28:30 pm
I don't know if this is possible to implement into your existing forums (I know nothing about web design/ programming) but a mobile version of the site would be really awesome. The existing mobile theme is just a black and white, stripped down version of the same site. If there was a mobile version with bigger buttons and such that was designed for small screens, many users like me that use mainly mobile devices like phones and ipods would find it a lot easier to work the forums.

I don't know if that's feasible for this site. The only person who would have more info. and could implement something like that would be Furtopia's founder, WhiteShepherd. I could pass along your suggestion to him and maybe he can reply here.

It would be especially convenient if we had a mobile site designed specifically for touch screens. I use Furtopia on my phone more than on my computer. :)

Yeah, like I said, I don't really know anything about website design, so take my suggestions with a grain of salt.

Alright. Sorry for the rapid replies, but it seems like there IS a mobile feature for all simple machines forums. All you have to do is put "?wap2" at the end of the address when you are at the home page of Furtopia. Its a pretty good mobile site, so I hope everyone using a mobile browser sees this thread.

For older phones a mobile version is easier to use but for most smart phones like iPhone it's just irritating. Thankfully it can still be used as the regular site. I mostly use my iPhone for web browsing.

The original mobile theme is for simple flip phones.  But I can see the advantage of a mobile theme for smart phones.  I have a android phone myself.  I will gladly look into this in the coming week.

I'm actually viewing the site with the ?wap2 setting. It's kind of cool to see such a simple text version of the forums! I mean, we miss out on avatars and such, but everything loads quickly.

If WS finds something about a better option for mobile phones, great! Otherwise, "?wap2" works pretty good.

Mm,  The only thing i'm having any sort of difficulty with myself with my phone are the spoiler tags.  There's no way to see what's inside from a phone from what i can tell.

Yes! That would still be super useful. Mobiles nowadays need a good balance.

Will it include an option to permanently disable the feature on your device if you so wish?
