I have noticed when people are leaving or going inactive, the threads don't have a set place... Maybe we could sticky a thread for being off for a time for various reasons, and/or explaining inactivity.

I don't understand what you mean? Are you talking about RP threads that are inactive?
Generally, the only threads that are pinned are mostly related to Furtopian rules and guidelines for various forums, or other Furtopian services.

They do have a set place. They belong in the Furry Greetings (http://forums.furtopia.org/index.php?board=34.0) subforum, and generally *aren't* pinned. TheWiseOne's vacation thread (http://forums.furtopia.org/index.php?topic=44244.0) and Arbutus's coming back thread (http://forums.furtopia.org/index.php?topic=44223.0) are examples.
...The subforum's description doesn't actually mention that, though. Maybe *that* should be changed?

It's a simple enough fix to modify the description under the Greeting Forum title. It now reads:
New to the furtopia forums? An introduction is in order! Tell us a bit about yourself in here. Hellos, Goodbyes, & Absences go here.
