Its a good idea, but I'd guess that the moderators aren't going to want to have to deal with that forum '<img'>

Religion and politics are two very volatile subjects.

This idea has been brought forth before and voted on. Religion is just too volitile and people usually end up fighting in the threads.

My suggetion would be to locate or create a furry religions forum or LJ community.

Just to re-interate, on a board I run there's only two banned subjects, politics and religion.  Both banned due to arguments breaking out, and no moderators want to spend all their time putting out fires ':dead:'

Of course thats not to say a website couldn't create colaborative articles revolving around Spirituality and Religion ...

The subjects wont be banned here. Its fine if furs can talk about it and not let it get uncivil, but most times the threads do end up being locked and reprimands given out becouse people usually cant keep things civil.

It won't be volatile if members are, say, reasonable.

I've been to plenty of forums with big booming sections on spirituality and theology that have been largely problem free, and many of them get more traffic, including waves of angsty know-it-all teens.  If even they can have explosion-free religion sections, why can't we?

Is there a legion of sociopathic members ready to flame at the drop of a yamika?

Give your members a little more credit.  Why not try it and IF it turns out badly, then get rid of it.

We get drama, lots and lots of drama ... and as stated, if threads about religion can't be left to their own devices, what makes you think a whole religious section would fare better?

Why not get rid of the amazing drama children if they start making a mess of things?

Other sites I got to get drama to.  People too immature to handle the fact that posting on a public forum means that anyone can respond were removed.  Drama-free discussion continued.

I'm not so much fighting for the religion section now as I am trying to figure out how other forums I visit have religion sections but ours would burst into flames.

Which is funny 'cause every site I've been on has ended up putting blanket bans on religion and/or politics!

Perhaps the other sites you've seen like that were very thoroughly moderated, or there was a large team of dedicated mods to jump on anything the moment it happenned?

If Furtopia would ban those topics I'd be happy. In all honesty I hate babysitting religion an politics topics because on every site I've been too all they get are flame wars.
Watching them is a lot of work and it's understandable of why she banned them from her forums.

No, not at all.

We have mature members who don't cry if some random and uneducated twit decides to be rude and obnoxious.  The twit in question either leaves frustrated when he's calmly proven to be completely and utterly wrong or he throws a tantrum and gets banned whenever a mod decides to show up.

Seriously, if you're visiting sites where they had to resort to something like a ban on religious discussion you need to find new people to chat with.

I've been to several forums where flames almost never happen and when they do they're generally small and ignored (usually some brat's tantrum).  Obviously the topic itself isn't volatile.

So why not just ban the people who need babysitting?
