The electorial College
« on: November 11, 2016, 12:28:22 pm »
For the second time in less than 20 years the popular vot has went for
the loosing canidate for preesident.

There was a debate discussion some monthes ago on the subject, but I
felt since I heard in the news some states are moving to eradicate this
bad idea from our history. One of our founders Alexander Hamilton felt
it was a bad idea at the time. I felt it should be reported.

Though it is in the constitution to elect the president with electors and not
by the public vote.  Some states are requiring their electors to vote for the
winner of the popular vote of the country, and not how the vote went in that
state.  13 so far if I remember right. Once enough states make this law to
have 270 electors this arcane idea of not letting the people vote for the
president will be past. I say the sooner the better.

The political parties have nothing to fear as the popular vote favers the
wish of the people and not the party. As we know they always say they
are following the wish of the people when they win.

I feel the Electoral Collage is an antiquated system. In the past it made it easier to get the election results and over with. Today we have technology that can count and keep track of all voting. It's time to get rid of this antique system and go with a real vote. This way our vote itself will actually count. Not the size of the state we live in.

The electoral college helps protect the interests of smaller states and rural areas by diluting the influence that higher-populated regions would have in an election. Giving way to "popular vote" would just mean swaying favor towards populated centers. It just goes back to the old dichotomy of country-bumpkins vs city-slickers. Even modern media does not undo the sheer lack of understanding between those two groups - as anomalous as they are compared to 200 years ago.

If you like your packaged wheat and corn-based products (or your iPhones and movies), it's worth keeping everyone on level ground...

Current popular vote for Clinton has risen to 2.6 million votes over
Trump Dec, 5 2016.

As it stands Trump is 1,72 million votes behind Clinton in the
popular vote. Now it wouldn't it be wierd if enough electors decided
to give Clinton 270 after all. Though highly unlikely it could happen if
enough states allowed it. The electorial vote is still almost a month
away. You know Trump, his supporters,  and the GOP would go nuts
if they did. That would likely put an end to the electorial system as
well.

We should remember when our country was created the leaders
were highly educated well to do people. The common man was poor
and uneducated. The leaders did not want such people electing the
president of the country

For years you had to own property to even vote. To show you were
a man of substance. Women, slaves, servants, indians, did not have
the right to vote.

So the electors was a comprimise,  because the states didn't want
parties decideing who was to be president via the congress.

At the time those running the country had no idea how large and
how diverse the country would become. When the states started
telling their electors how to vote. Alexander Hamilton realized the
right of the people to decide would be lost and tried to have the
electoral process removed from the constitution.

I really don't want some individual state decideing who the president
is. It should be done by the whole. My vote along with millions were
erased by the Electorial system. I think most people want it changed
as well.

Some may feel the electorial process brings the candidate to their state,
but if the candidate feels the state is a lost cause they likely won't campain
in that state at all. On the other hand if all votes counted they would want
to campain in all states. Did Trump or Clinton go to Alaska, or Hawaii? If they
did the media didn't mention it.

Many countries around the world has copied our constitution to start
democratic/federal systems of government, but none have accepted
the electorial system. They consider it a dumb anti democratic idea.

Here is a link to a video commentary about the electorial college. It is a bit long
but worth watching I think. The speaker isn't a fan of Trump, but I think he treats
him fairly. So try to watch it all as there is some good information about the
electorial college and how it relates to todays politics.
