Though my parents treated me well, and gave me their love. They
didn't seem to be all that interested in what I was doing in school
or elsewhere as long as I didn't cause trouble. Even then they did
little to ask why or how.
Seems like as I grew older, and started school they felt. "He will
say something if he has problems or needs help." This didn't work
well for me. As a kid I tried to fix my own problems. I suppose it
started when I once or twice asked and they were too busy to
listen. They would say. "Why didn't you come to us?" I think many
parents say this then when the problem is past they forget.
Kids need more than just the necessities of life like food, water, clothes
and a warm dry place to live. They need parents who care enough
to ask how they are doing, show interest in their hobbies, and
friends. Not sitting on their shoulder, but to be there for them.
Most kids turn out pretty well, and parenting is a tough job that
usually is learned on the fly, but as society puts more demands on
us all parents really need to sit aside a little time for the family.
Being a kid can be and often is a tough job too. They need all
the help parents can give them.
I think most parents do well, and love their kids dearly, but
sometimes even the best need a litte reminding now and then.
