Favorite villains antagonists and bad guys
« on: May 29, 2017, 05:46:07 am »
The heroes of most stories are a dime a dozen, but a convincing well written villain that doesn't just cliché all over the place is much harder to come by, so who are your favorite bad guys in cinema, television, or literature, and why?

MST3K, anyone?

Darth Vader from STAR WARS.
Khan from STAR TREK II.
Lord Voldemort from the Harry Potter series.

Now if you want the ultimate bad villain, then nobody can come close to the Joker from the Batman franchise. The Joker is the ultimate villain. Cruel, sadistic, mad, psychotic. He truly is "the clown prince of crime".  :D

Scarface from The Animals of Farthing Wood series.

One of the only children's story villains who succeeds in being actually scary, he has both a legitimate motive for wanting the heroes dead and the competence to make it happen. Kills women and children, tortures informants, but he does a softer side and is beloved by his family. That he's mostly unchanged in the cartoon adaptation lends evidence to my theory that the animation quality is so poor because the producers spent most of the budget bribing the censors to keep the show's PG rating.

Cybermen, from the Dr. Who series.

Master Spy from Gerry Anderson's Supercar series.

The Cylons from Battlestar Galactica TOS.

You forgot the Daleks and the Borg too.

Daleks are befuddled by staircases.

Boris and Natasha from Rocky and Bullwinkle

Just because the bashing on the Soviet Union was so good.

Also, Joker from The Dark Knight is pretty darn evil, yet not entirely bad: He is trying to take down the mob after all.

Not entirely true!

Levitation! Kind of...

Scar from the Lion King is always the best to me. He gets to the point and doesn't dillydally.

I'm also going to jump off the deep end and say Hannibal Lector. Smart, quick and clean.

She isn't really a villain as much as she's a grump, but I loved the queen of hearts in Disney's first Alice in wonderland. Siiiilence! Loved it when she yelled. :D

I suppose my picks would have to be:
Scar - cunning and power hungry to the end, full of ambition, envy and charm
Davros - creator of the daleks, interesting design, good take on mad scientist
Discord - capable of manipulating and discouraging the heroes in a matter of minutes, like his design
The Martians from the War of The Worlds - cold beasts that do nothing but wipe out the opposing military forces, but admit defeat when caught unprepared. Iconic machinery and weaponry

Not really a villain per say, but rather more of a mischief maker, don't forget Q from Star Trek Next Generation series. ;)

Lorne Malvo from the first season of the Fargo series.

It's hinted at him being an incarnation of the devil, or at the least someone the devil would envy as an eerily calm psychopath with a complete disdain for the morality of man.
