Dogs are smarter than cats!

Just saw this on my local news website.  Sorry, cats. But all you know how to do is sleep all day and be lazy.  Dogs are the leaders of the pack.

Michen_s  offended? Na, go find sunny window and stretch out. That has always made any cat happy! 

I had a dog that was scary smart. A full blood Alaskan Malamute. She trained her pups to eat out of a bowel. Her and her pups would sit in a semi circle around the bowel of food. She would step up, facing the pups. Take a single pice of food. Display this to her pups by keeping it on the end of her tongue. Bring it into her mouth, chew and swallow. One by one each pup would do the same.

Pfft, if you want a truely brainy pet, get a parrot or a corvid. Or potentially a rat, as rats can understand causal relationships, something usually limited to primates.

Kobuk your not going to convince a cat owner a dog is smarter. I have
always read that dogs and cats are on a par intelligence wise.

With any species your going to find one now and then who shows
outstanding intelligence. However on average it's likely they are
much the same.

One could say a cat is smarter in that he/she takes life easy,
and stays away from danger for the most part. Where in most
cases a dog being a scocial beast is more likely to look out for
his/her boss than the usally non social feline. In a social group
layality to the leader pays benifits.

I think most cat owners would say the cat owns them instead.

My tomcat must have been raised with dogs because he did not fear them. He liked everyone and could open doors with his fangs. Also responsive to commands and quite the mooch when takeout fish dinners were involved. He died in 1995.

We adopted a cat who had been raised with a dog. The cat was more like a dog in
how it acted. It wanted our praise unlike most cats who could care less. Goes
to show animals aren't that much different than humans when it comes to
emotional needs. Along with the way envioroment shapes their personality.

It's a shame dogs have such a short life. Seems about the time we get to
know them their life is about over. At least it seemed that way with the dogs
I have owned over the years. Sure they can be trained to do many things,
but it takes time to grow mentally.
