Question about BIOS password reset, and CMOS battery?

Hello to whoever's reading this.
To put a long story short, and this may sound like a silly question to some, but I want to change the boot order in my BIOS, but it has a password on it, (It never used to) I don't know it, but I know that if I remove the CMOS battery for a few seconds from my laptop inside, it will reset the password to nothing.
I just want to know, will doing this cause any problems, remove any data from my hard drive? Etc..
I'm just very worried about losing anything, or rendering my laptop useless.
I have an Acer Aspire 5935G, and I don't know which company the BIOS is from.
Thank you very much to anyone who helps!

It'll remove all of the current BIOS settings and load defaults when you boot - which, ofc will work just fine - it won't touch anything outside of CMOS (which stores BIOS settings and the time)

So all it will do to the laptop is reset the password, and reset the time?
Also, should I wear gloves?
Thanks a lot by the way! ^-^

A computer will work without the Bios Battery. Only thing is you have
to set the clock, and any bios settings needed for correct operation of
the hard drives. Every time you boot.
