Shooting at the Fort Lauderdale Airport in Fla.
« on: January 07, 2017, 12:31:18 pm »
Five killed and Six people still in the hospital after being shot at the
Fort Lauderdale Airport in Fla. A popular destination.

Apparently the man used a gun he had in his check in luggage. Many people carry fire arms
for hunting trips and other reasons when they travel.  Perhaps it might be better if they
couldn't carry ammunition along with it. After all munitions is readily available in all
cities and most towns. If the firearm required special ammo they could pre ship it.

Here is a link to some news info.

I thought it was against TSA rules to have the ammunition in the same bag or unlocked anyway.

It was stated on the news one can carry ammo seperate from the firearm. So
that would make it possible to load the weapon after reaching the luggage
area.

Seems some people always take advantage when we try to make life easier for
everyone.

The easier to use the easier to missuse.

You'd think they'd make a rule about not traveling with any weapons what so ever, and they flights would have armed security aboard the planes.

But that's too much I guess.

They do have armed federal marshals on many flights.

All weapons are required to be put in the check in baggage..  What happened here is the
guy grabbed his bag after ariving, took it into a bathroom, took the gun out and loaded it.
Then started shooting people.

What they should do is not allowing both the weapon and ammo both to be carried on the
same flight. That would have prevented him from immediately using the gun inside a
crowded airport.

The problem with the solutions here is... they make no sense: the attack was at the baggage claim, right?

It would have been easier for the man to literally just walk into the airport with the gun already prepared and start firing. You don't get screened at the door, and the baggage claim is typically accessible from the entrance to most airports according to my experience at Detroit & Tampa anyway. Preventing transportation of weapons wouldn't have made any affect on a reasonably half-baked scheme to commit the same crime in an easier fashion, because you can walk to the baggage claim and the bathrooms from the entrance - no screening. Maybe a few guards here & there, but those will pop up anywhere once the shots start.

Guy probably could have brought a loaded and ready AK-74u under a trench-coat easier than transporting a pistol in baggage, then preparing it all in the bathroom. All that did was exploit a needlessly over-complicated loop-hole.
