Title: Thinking Of Setting Up My own Furry Forum
Post by: Shakar Otter on April 10, 2008, 06:40:08 pm
i'm thinking of setting up my own furry forum, but am not sure as to how to go about it. I'll be using the software supplied by Simple Machines, the same used by this forum. The biggest problem, is finding a "host" One of Furtopia's "applications" is webhosting, but the link is broken.

Does Furtopia still host websites, or has that fallen by the wayside? I could use all the help I can get.

To the best of my knowledge, Furtopia does not host regular forums like the type we're using now. It does host websites for artists though. The only forum application you can get here is for a "community forum" which would be like what's in the Artists, Authors, & Musicians Forum, or the Communities Groups Forum.

EDIT: If you go to the Greetings forum and check the "Mod Post of Doom" that we usually give new members, you'll see links for the various applications Furtopia offers.

Furtopia does host forums depending on content. Usually they're personal forums to discuss the artists and so on. Not usually just general furry forums.
You can however look into forum hosting sites.

Simple Machines is a good  one. :D

It's what Furtopia uses for the forums currently.

Another I seem to see used often is. phpBB

VBulletin I see around as well.

As for what you need to create a forum on those I'm not sure as I don't build forum. What I think you can do it buy a website and hook the forum through it. godaddy.com is a pretty user friendly and affordable place to buy domains.

What ever you go for, make sure the method you use supports PHP or most forums will not work...
