Title: Purebreds in a Furry World
Post by: Mister Initial Man on June 29, 2020, 03:39:31 pm
So, here's a question.  Let's say genetic experiments have uplifted animals to human intelligence.  If dogs started getting their paws on books about genetics, how long would Purebreds last?  Or would they quickly tell the American Kennel Club and other such organizations to stuff it?

Dog's are very promiscuous. Given some intelligence they'll tell us who they want to be with. Mutt will be the new world order.

Holds up a sign that says:

"PUREBREED LIVES MATTER!"

If they get intelligent enough,  some may think one breed is better than others,  and fall into same trap humans can,  i.e. over thinking it all.  So maybe pure breed dogs may exist.

Basically this. It would make sense for mutts to become the standard, but you just *know* there's going to be some dogs who would insist up on "sticking to their own kind."

Mind you, humans DO have people like the House of Habsburg--which was ridiculously inbred.

I do see in my current dog Wanda,  she seems to prefer interacting with dogs like her.  So... maybe intelligent anthropomorphic canines will generate some mildly "pure bred " variants because of this old instinct,  assuming it carries into the DNA?

Purebreds would be viewed as elitist snobs and shunned by the rest of the fandom.

Rocket, I am not sure they were asking about the fandom per se, but the case where anthropomorphic creatures did actually exist, would pure breeds exist there?

And for the record... my character is a simple pure breed GSD.  And in no way does that mean I am against intermingling of races IRL.  In real life I am from about 9 different "strains" so far as I know.  BUT, I do like how some pure breed dogs and cats look, so ... I do wonder if in a real anthro world, if furries would also like that and breed just to make novel coat patterns, or such.  Or breed for strength and other traits so the offspring have a better chance of getting a certain job.  Others might breed to be indistinct so as not to gain attention.
OR, maybe purebred furries in this fake world would actually be against the rules and looked down on, so like anti-snobbish.

By fandom, I meant all the other critters.
