Title: Eaglemoss Enterprise
Post by: Kay Alett on March 21, 2021, 10:53:11 pm
My first edition of the Eaglemoss Enterprise build arrived. This is going to be a massive model build taking place over the next 30 months!  :o

I set a BIC lighter on the poster for scale, the poster by the way, is a life size representation of the finished model.

How much do you think it would weigh?
Just curious.

Cool model to build!  I wish I had that kind of time...

Unsure on the weight but since it's going to be almost entirely metal die cast it's gonna be rather heavy.
Being disabled I have nothing but time. I just have to make adjustments to my budget. I usually set aside a "splurge budget" of money that I can use either in emergencies or for something fun or nice for myself and this is going to be a bit over half each month's splurge budget so that means while I'm doing this build I won't be able to get stuff like snacks or the odd transformer here and there or something but I think it'll be worth it.
Plus I think it'll do my mind some good to have some kind of long term project to focus and work on.

On the subject of time still I think anyone could have time. This isn't a model that you get all at once, it's a subscription. They send you a kit that comes with a screwdriver and screws and instructions and it's just a small piece. I have the first two kits in my subscription welcome edition and it's just half of one of the nacelles and the other is a small piece of the under side of the ship. I have 0 experience with models and I could probably put them both together in maybe 30 minutes or less.

You can get a good idea for how it'll work if you go on youtube and watch Emgo316 build the Ecto-1. He makes a video for each edition and piece of the build and some of them are rather short. After a while you've built a bunch of little bits and pieces of the ship and then they send you a bigger chunk that brings it all together and you realize that without even realizing it you've built half the ship already.

It's also designed to be as easily accessible as possible. You don't have to paint anything, you don't have to put any stickers on, you don't have to glue anything. Most of the parts and pieces snap together or screw together. That probably sounds boring to seasoned model makers who love painting and applying decals but it's a godsend for those of us with no experience who would like to get into models. Or even just those folks who might not have time anymore or the sure and steady hands to apply fine paint apps and decals.

Metal die cast!  Now that is cool!

Reminds me of a line from Beast Wars: Transformers where the Maximals are trying to break into the Autobot's ship and finding it impossible to breach.

Rattrap: Aw, man! That ship wasn't built; it was poured!
Optimus Primal: Die-cast construction... (looks to the audience) it's a lost art.

AWESOME Kay! Looking forward to updates on this project.

Thanks  :)  I'm not going to begin it just yet. I want to wait until I have a place of more permanence and stability. Till then I will just collect the editions and keep them safe.

well the next part of the build arrived today. Four issues in one go. This time building Deck 2, main shuttlebay, a small part of the main saucer section and some of the main Deflector dish.
I also received a binder to keep the instruction issues in since each issue also contains lots of background details on the conception of the show and the ship.

Again, I'm not going to start putting the model together now. I want to wait till I have a more stable living position.

If y'all want I suppose I could take pictures of the books and show pieces of it here. What do you think?

Kay, how's your Enterprise build going? How much do you have done?

I found out my best friend got me one for Christmas this year. He said he's going to build it for me.

I missed this question. I reported about this in my updates post but why not say so here as well.
I had to unsubscribe for now while I get myself on my feet in this desert life. I'm not entirely ready to completely give up building it but i need to get myself into a position where I'm a little more able to afford the expense.

I didn't actually start building the ship though. I collected aup to edition 4 but hadn't begun building. I wanted it to be a project i did in my own space.

I would like to pick up where I left off and perhaps I will but for now I have to focus on other things.

Hi Kay,
That Eaglemoss Enterprise is going to be great once it is done, and worth the wait I bet!
And it will be a celebration of getting back on your feet and running again.

Bad news, Kay. Looks like you and I may not be able to finish collecting and building our Enterprises.
There's been major news the last 2-3 days that Eaglemoss may (or may not) go bankrupt.
If they do, it's uncertain that new Enterprise part shipments will be made/sent to customers.
We may end up with just partial builds and no way to finish them.  :'(

Well that's really unfortunate...
