I'll toss my gaming one in to the mix, even though it's more or less down for the count, plagued by an Nvidia manufacturing defect.

Name: The Beast (A laptop that weighs in at 12 lbs.)

Windows XP SP2
17" monitor with 1280 X 1024 native resolution
200GB HDD @ 7200 RPM
Intel E-8400 dual core @ 3.0GHz
4GB ram (can't remember the speed, but about the fastest around at the time)
512MB Nvidia 8800M GTX
Could litterally cook a small steak on the heatsinks if I wanted.

Great machine even today, but they used the wrong solder on that line of graphics card that didn't hold up to the heat like it was supposed to. So I can't really use it any more and just biding my time for a new gamer.

Mhmm. Being a laptop, there isn't much that can be done on the cooling side except running the fans 100% or a cooling mat. It was about the strongest machine you could build when I bought it. It's a Pro Star brand, btw.

Yeah, that's why I don't like laptops ... yes there portable ... but there limited and more expensive... Pro Star... never heard of them.

It's a boutique brand like Alienware. I agree with you on the expense aside, but I can't have a desktop with me in the truck I drive for a living. A laptop is the only thing viable for me and that thing blew away many strong desktops at the time. Would still be using it if not for the graphics card issue.

I can replace it (already baked it twice as a temp fix), but need to get a different model card to not risk this again. Even used, they are not worth it at this point I point. New, they were about $600,  starting at $250 used and untested.

I didn't price the 8800's, but found out a 260 will work with a BIOS update and those were what I priced last year on Ebay.

Sorry but even for a laptop that price sounds a bit ... over the top... my EVGA GPU's which are a bit more expensive you your run of the mill GPU's were only about 200 each ... ... o.o

Mobile graphics cards aren't common consumer stock, like desktop cards are. They're generally installed at the manufacturer and aren't really intended to be replaced by the user. This will drive up prices for people in Narei's situation, because they aren't easy to find to begin with.

Case: Generic HP case

Mother Board: Some Gigabyte model I don't remember

CPU: Intel i3 530 @ 2.93GHz
  • CPU Heat Sink:Scythe Samurai. I don't remember the specific model, but it was advertised as being only 19dBA @ 1m up to 95w tdp, and could handle up to 130W at higher fan speeds

RAM: 4GB of RAM at 1066MHz

GPU: ATI Radeon HD 5670 with a quiet fan
  • Display1:Generic 1280x1024 display that wasn't good enough for my dads workplace 5 years ago when they dumped it

I guess I'll show off mine too. I'm not as computer-smart as I thought I was, so maybe I don't know exactly what all this means. Also, this is my first home-made machine! (Not by me of course.) From what I understand, it pales in comparison to the others listed here, but it runs WAY better than anything I've had store-bought. I'm quite proud of it!

Computer Name:
ARCTICGALE (I believe the creator was proud of the cooling capabilities.)

Case: Thermaltake Soprano

CPU: Intel i5-760 2.8GHz
  • Thermaltake Contac 16 cooler

PSU: Ritmo Force1200 Gaming

RAM: 8GB

GPU: Asus HD4870

Fans: ...Lots. The power supply has three, supposedly, and there's one on the cooler and a big one one the back, which I think are all exhaust fans. For intake there's an equally big one one the front.

Storage:
  • 250GB OS HDD
  • Lucky 808.8GB Storage HDD

Keyboard/Mouse: Nothing special.

@Okami: Wow, have enough fans?

Well, in my defense, six of the fans came with the case itself. One of the fans came with my cooler.

The only two I added were the Side Intake and Cage Intake fans.

Even though it sounds like a lot of fans, it's not actually that cramped due to it being a Full-Tower case.

I suppose I have something to post in this now that I've finished it (mostly):

-HAF XB case, w/ corsair AX860 PSU
-MSI Z77 'MPOWER' board
-i7 3770k, w/ H100i cooler
-GTX 670 4GB OC'd by default
-Corsair GS 128GB SSD, some 750GB drives and a random 320GB from something
-Corsair M60 mouse + K60 keyboard
-Samsung S24B300H 24i screen
-Some cheap DVD drive
-Cyberpower UPS that weighs about as much as the rest combined thanks to using a lead-acid battery
-Astro A30 headset; logitech Z4 speakers from ages ago
-Some old samsung 1333MHz RAM (8GB) since I RMA'd the stuff I got with this for being rubbish
-Intuos 4 (tablet) that really needs a new pen or some glue, depending which I feel like next time I use it
-I still can't think of anything.
