Furtopian Christmas Gift Exchange 2015
« on: November 08, 2015, 08:07:07 pm »
In light of the upcoming Christmas holiday, I've gotten in touch with WhiteShepherd and Kada-Ru on the subject of their availability for hosting another Christmas gift exchange this year, and they've responded in the affirmative.  Cue the announcement thread!

If you're interested in participating this year, all you have to do is post here saying that you will participate as well as whether you're willing to send overseas or not.  You should also provide a few gift ideas in your post; this will help the person you're assigned to choose something for you.

Then PM Kada-Ru your physical address.  Your address will be kept private, but it will be given to the person that is sending you a gift. Five dollars is an appropriate amount for the gift you send, but if you wish to go over that amount, that is up to you.  You can find out what your exchange likes by reading their post in this thread, looking at their profile, or contacting them and asking what types of things they like.

Once the names have been matched, your address will be sent to the person that is sending you your gift through PM.

Because of problems in the past, if you are in the US, get delivery confirmation (or a tracking number) for the shipment when sending out your present.  This costs about 75 cents at the post office.  Then send this tracking number to your exchange and Kada. This shows that you actually sent your exchange, and it also shows that it is not your responsibility if your package gets lost in the mail.

Minors must have parental permission to participate in this event, since they must give their home mailing address or PO Box address in order to receive a gift. We do not require proof of parental consent, but please do not abuse this as doing so could cause problems for you or for us.

If you want to join in but KNOW you can't afford to send anything, DO NOT say that you can.  This only looks bad on you. It could also keep you from ever participating again.  This is done on the HONOR system.  Thanks for understanding, and I hope we have an awesome exchange this year.

Important dates to note:

The deadline for participants is the 5th of December.
You will then have 10 days to read over your assigned Furtopian's post and arrange a gift for them.  This means that you have to post the gift by the 15th of December so that it'll get to the recipient in time for Christmas.

Doesn't look like it though I am going to be in it. :)  I was noticing the emptiness as well.

I'd love to participate! I've always enjoyed the exchange in the past when I participated.
I am willing to ship overseas!!

I like wolves, greyhounds, honeybees and anything furry related. If you can't afford something outlandish, I'll gladly accept handmade things like artwork, short stories and poems. It's the thought that counts, right?
If you aren't much of a writer, even just a fun card with a small message in it about one of your family holiday traditions.

I also own a cat, so anything for her would be fun, too. She's kind of rough on toys, so if you were interested in getting her one she would require a sturdy dog-branded toy  (:

I wasn't sure whether I'd have the funds to be able to do this or not, but it looks like I will be able to partake in the exchange this year.

I'm a computer geek and a math geek; I'm also a fan of furry art and sometimes of plush toys as well.

Names and addresses have been sent to each of you who you are sending gifts to.

To make this fair I placed each name in a container with a lid and shook it up.
The first name I labeled as #1 and the second name as #2 etc.
Then I replaced those with the names and the first name drawn was given to person #1 and the second name was given to person #2 etc.

Please remember to get a tracking number for your person and me.

Thank you all for participating this year and can't wait to see all the ideas!  Oh and yes, post a pic of your gifts once you get them!  Happy Holidays!

I'm glad you like the gift, Kada!

I thought that I had set up the customization such that it'd have a solid color border around the artwork that I made, but I guess they must have figured that I made a mistake when I didn't have the artwork take up the entirety of the card's design space (either that, or I had mistakenly not done so).  The end result works either way, though.

Got my gift from Varg the Wanderer!
It's a hand-made leather collar for my pet kitty. I'll try and update this post with a picture sometime when I can.

Varge, did you notice these two links didn't show up in your post?

I just looked at your post again and one of them is visible.  The other link is forbidden when I put it into the browser.

That's really weird. They look fine to me. I'll try to fix it later today: it might be who I'm hosting the pictures with.

This is a known issue with hotlinking to FA pics; there's a pinned thread on the artwork board on the subject.  The embeds don't work for forum browsers (since FA's servers reject the image loading from a non-FA referral), even though they  appear okay on the original poster's end (because the browser caches the pic on the initial page load of FA, and subsequent pageloads pull from that cache instead of getting the pic from FA's servers).

In short, you'll need to use an image host other than FA.

I was a bit busy over the holiday; sorry for updating this thread so late.

I got my gift in from Magical_HATz.  It was artwork of Todd from "The Fox and the Hound", and it's quite lovely.  Thanks for the gift!

I never knew that.  Luckily I don't take my pics of my FA account.  I put them on my personal website then upload them here or anywhere else.  Still nice to know this info.

Thanks for the info, redyoshi49q!
