Title: Splinter Cell
Post by: Running_Wolf on October 29, 2003, 12:05:59 pm
Here's a walkthrough for the first mission. Post here when you need the next mission.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Sam begins the mission in a darkened courtyard.

Crouch and head up the staris to the right.

Move forward to the ladder and climb to the top.

While crouched, move up the roof to the trapdoor. Open it and drop through.

Crouch and move through the crawlspace to the end.

Climb the pole at the end of the crawlspace.

This puts you on a rooftop overlooking a burning building.

Locate the wire. Position yourself under it and jump to grab it. You zip down toward the burning building.

[SAVE GAME HERE]

After you enter the building, Grimsdottir instructs you to move through the room and across the hallway. However, don't run in too fast or the roof in the opposite room will collapse on you.

[CAUTION! Whithin the building, avid the flames. Any contact with them will reduce your health. The longer the contact, the more damage you sustain.]

Turn left and head down the hall towards the flames.

because the flames are blocking your path, detour through the room on the left and into the hall.

Continue down the hall to the stairwell and descend to the lower level.

At the bottom of the stairs, head into the hall. The path is blocked. Look up and position yourself under the pipe. Jump up, grab hold, and go hand-over-hand acros the fiery chasm.

Drop and move through the room to the left, and to the next stairwell.

Ascend the next staircase and go down the hall to the room at the end.

Trapped in the burning room is Thomas Gurgenidze, the local NSA informant. He tells you to check Blaustein's apartment, then dies.

It's now time to exit the burning building. Exit through the other door.

The next room is filled with smoke. Activate your night vision, pull out your pistol and shoot out the skylight.

Wait a few seconds for the smoke to clear, then head for the door on the room's right side.

Exit the room to complete the level.

[Blaustien's Apartment. GOAL-Find the black box in Blaustein's apartment]

Open the door and move onto the balcony.

At the gap between the railings, stand up, move forward and jump across to the opposite balcony.

Turn right and head toward the lattice wall. Crouch, then walk along the lattice wall toward the patio and listen to the conversation.

Wait until the conversation stops and the guard on the patio turns around, then drop into the planret box.

Turn right and move through the planter box towards the apartment

[2 POSSIBLE PATHS! You can choose the guide's path or my path at this point]

[GUIDE'S PATH]

Go up the steps and move toward the window to the door's left.

Wait for the guard in the house to come out and talk to the guard on the patio. While they talk, silently move through the front door and silently into the apartment.

[R_W'S PATH]

Go to the end of the planet box and climb over the railing by jumping and silently landing.

Wait for the guard to move towards the door before standing up and opening the window.

Jump through the window and move to the kitchen area

[END OF DIFFERENT PATHS]

Continue to the left and down the hall to the last room on the right.

Enter and walk to the painting. Slide it up and out of the way to reveal a computer.

Use the computer to get a data stick.

Head across the room to the keypad by the door.

Pull up your OPSAT and look under Notes for the access code-091772. Enter the code into the keypad.

[The Dead Drop. GOAL- Find Gurgenidze's dead drop in Morevi Square to figure out how to get into the Police Precinct.]

Walk onto the balcony and position yourself under the wire crossing the street.

Jump to grab the wire and zip over the street to the roof on the other side.

Go through the door on the left and continue to the elevator shaft.

Stand and jump towards the center elevator cable. You automatically grab the cable. Slide to the top of the elevator car.

Open the trapdoor and drop into the elevator.

[SAVE GAME HERE]

Head across the room to the door. The restriction to the street is now removed.

Pull out your lockipck to unlock the door.

After opening the door, crouch and follow the walkway around to the stairs.

[PAUSING HERE BACAUSE I'M NOT SURE HOW MANY CHARACTERS THIS POST IS AND I CAN'T POST THE WHOLE GUIDE FOR THIS LEVEL HERE]

Thanks R_W, funnily enough you stopped pretty much where I am now!
I'm at the point where after you retrieve the data stick from the laptop in the small outcove in the plaza( there is also a health pack nearby) you go up a long street with several guards, I'm stuck there!
(I apoligise if my description is poor I haven't played it in a week or so)
Thanks again!

Bad news. The page in the guide I've got has been torn out. I'll recall how I did it.

I'm guessing you're at the T junction thing. What you need to do is shoot out the lights when no-one is looking. If they get suspicious of you, hide on the patio area. Once the coast is clear, head to the alcove under the light you shot. Do the same with the one near the dumpsters. Once you've done that, hide between the dumpsters and pick up a bottle, aim at the guard's head and throw the bottle. If this fails to KO him, run up and punch him until he's KO'd, then hide to avoid the guard at the other end of the street. Make your way up the street as fast as possible but don't make too much noise. Sneak past the guard at the end of the street and climb up the drainpipe next to the lattice structure. Once up on top of the lattice, sneak your way to the end and position yourself above the guard at the end of the lattice. Land on top of him to KO him. Hide the bodt in the dark area next to the tree and make your way to the dumpster. Climb onto it and wall jump to grab onto the wall. Climb up to get into the police precinct.

I'll let you do your own thing here.

I got the game yesterday, and here's the way I did the part in the alley without shooting once so far in the mission (the alley is the part right after the time your boss tells you you can go in the streets)

When you exit the underground passage, you find yourself turning left, then at your right, there are stairs that go downwards, with two policemen "interrogating" a civvie.
At the first left turn, right when exiting the building, stay there. Position yourself, facing the wall where you just came from, and very near the edge of teh said wall, but not too far, since you'll be grabbing the edge on the LEFT side.
// MINI-MAP:
Legend:
| & = -> walls
. -> down stairs
: -> up stairs
X -> position
) & ( -> ledges
ENTRANCE
|          |
|          |
|          |
|          |==============|
|          X                               |
|                                           |
|==============           |
          |)                     |..........|
          |)                     |..........|
          |)                     |..........|
          |)                     |..........|
          |)                     |..........|
          |)                     |..........|
// END MAP

So, you face the position AWAY from the stairs, and do a wall jump. If you do it right, you should grab the second ledge, way over every light, nearly at the same position as the balcony at the other side of the alley.
Go all the way to the other side, without dropping. Once you ran out of ledge, you should be in the corner, next to the two guards on the opposite wall, and nearly under the balcony. Let yourself fall and do a silent landing.
SAVE HERE
Stay in the bushes until the guard that walks up and down the alley turns away from you.

If you time it right, you should be able to easily go half-way into the little alcove, on the right, where there isn't much light before the guard comes back. Once he's back the way you came from, wait.
When he passes again the direction you want to go, follow him closely.
Sometimes, I found the timing with the civvie on the balcony doesn't fit. Then, it's usually when the guard just passed your way, going in the direction you came from, that you have to do it. if the civvie sees you, you're toast.
Once passed that, the rest should be obvious.

NOTE:
So far, I'm trying to get in the embassy without killing the last guard, but the darn civvie always sees me, and the only bullet I used was on the light at the entrance of the gazebo-type passage...
I'll see what can be done for that darn part later...

Okay, so I finished the first real mission. Here's my lowdown on my part:
Now, you've opened the gates and went thru them without the guard ever seeing you (that was easy, right?).
Now, wait on the patio on the left, at the very corner. You might have to wait for a while, so grab a coke...
When the civvie passes, as soon as he's passed you, crouch-slow-walk behind him, and when he stops, grab him and knock him out. Grab his body and hide it on the patio.
Crouch-medium-walk up to the corner of the alley and, if the other guard's far enough, wait for him on the far wall, NOT in the perpendicular alley. Do NOT go in the doorhole, but next to it, on the wall.
When the guard's there, he'll tuirn away in the alley you just came from. GHH (Grab Hit Hide) him and you can more or less not care until you get to the far side of the alley.
Once about halfway, slow down and hide in the doorhole closest to the end of the alley. A thug will walk by. Let him go all the way until you can't hear him anymore.
Then, walk in the perpendicular alley, and blow the light on your RIGHT (this was the ONLY bullet I spent in the whole mission)
Grab the pipe next to it and climb over the wodden lattice wall thingie. Crouch, slow-walk and hug the right wall.
When you hear someone walk AWAY, get in more or less the middle of the lattice and fall. You should end up right on the bad guy, knocking him out.
Now, you should have the "Something's wrong but you're not seen" music, thanks to the civvie in the windows.Wait for it to die off, and then, GH (Grab Hide) the body of the thug.
When the civvie leaves the LEFT window, medium-crouch your way behind the tree. Either:
a) the music says you weren't spotted, BUT the civve knows there's something wrong
b) nothing different.
In case of "a", slow down and go to the container. There, get up, and jump on it.
Do a wall jump to grab the ledge, like in the trianing mission, and you're done with this part.

I'll post how I did the police station tomorrow. ^^

The police station

So, now you're in the precinct. Go to the door and enter the 5929 code, if I remember correctly. Enter CROUCHED. Very important.
You will see a guard slowly walk away from you. Stay crouched, and wait at the very border of the darkness. Do NOT let your meter go farther than the first line, or the guard might see you. Wait for him to come back.
When he finally came back, he will turn away. When he's not looking, walk, crouched, towards him. You will probably have to accelerate. DO SO.
When he'll hear you, you should theoricaly be in range to grab him. Do so and GHH him. Now, walk into his office, and take the data stick.

Crouch and walk toward the other big glass door. There should be a door on your left. If you do everything right, the guard in it will NEVER even know you're there. So don't even bother with it.
In the room with the big window, you can see someone with a laptop prancing around. Wait and see his timing. Enter the room when he's not looking, and hide behind the station in the middle of the room. When he's walking walk behind him and grab him. Interrogate him. He will tell you that the bodies in the morgue are the agents you're after. Tought noodles on ya.
hit and hide him.
Get in the morgue, and time yourself with the camera. Walk to the place, behind the plastic curtain, on your right. Wait there until the camera isn't looking at you.
Run under the camera. When it's looking away, run between the two cadavers, and come back. If you timed it right, you should have information about the two spooks, and notice that their subdermals have disappeared.
Now, exit the room the same way you came.

Keep following the hallway until you reach the final door.
Open it and go upstairs. The second door will lead to the precinct's entrance. Crouch and slow-walk, hugging the wall on your right (not putting your back on it). Go BEHIND the curtain. When you're finally at the door, the guard and the civvie should still be talking. raise your speed ONE notch and walk across the light. You should now be in total darkness. Just wait for the two guys to finish talking, and when they're done, slow down as much as possible and crouch your way to the entrance to the stairs.

Once in the staircase, just slowly walk your way up. You will reach a computer room. Slow-crouch your way behind the first guy, GHH him. Repeat for the second guy.
Do every door in sight. The farthest one contains bullets, in case you might need them. As I mentionned, in the whole mission I fired only once, so I hardly even cared for them.
The second room contains some guy that was interrogated. You can't do anything there. Don't bother.

Now, the room left has some guy behind plastic curtains watching at monitors. THIS is your mission objective. Enter the room, crouching and being as slow as possible, and GHH the poor soul.
Use the computer.

You now have to exit the building.
Go back down thru the stairway, and crouch-slow you way to the second door. Open it. The guard will see you. Just run AS FAST AS POSSIBLE outside, and you're cleared!

Good job!

Personally, I prefer the good old HK MK23 SOCOM pistol. That, with a good G36K, and the world is more or less yours. ^^
