Is there any furries with Freelancer? I'm thinking of re-starting my server again. If there's a few furries here with the game, I'll open the server for you. It'll be timed though. My mom don't like the sounds of the computer fan  ':p' . Probably from 5pm-10pm on Mon-Fri and 10am-10pm on weekends. I'll tell you guys the name if your interested. With WhiteSheperd's permission, I'll make it a Furtopia server (A little advertising here and there didn't hurt  '<img'> )

Freelancer? Never heard of it. There is a guy in my collage that keeps talking to me, chimera and that about Ultima Online. Is it anything like that?

A door to your soul...

When darkness falls
Allow the light of your heart to guide you

Hope burns brighter than any star
And will shine long after the last star dies"

It's a space-based game. Kinda cool. Microsoft finally do something right. They've made the Universe HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE! Over 50 systems last time I counted. It's the sequel to Starlancer if that helps.

Kinda RPG and Third/First PS. The SP plot is neat. Conspracies abound and strange uber-powerful aliens. These ones ARE powerful. Their weaps use no energy and do high damage. The only good thing is that their ships don't have shields and some alien trinket will destroy them all. I'm close to doing it but their base is too well defended. You gotta break through a shield into a "Dyson Shpere" (Nothing to do with the hoover) and shhot down a few generators to use this tinker-toy. I keep getting blown up  ':cry:' .

Oh right, it's wierd that guy at college I mentioned before came up with an idea about a Stargate game that sounded a bit like that, if I could I'd think about getting a hold of it.

try HMV or Virgin. They've got a few copies. It's quite fun and the mouse control is easy to pick up. That is if you aren't used to joystick controls...but if not it's dead easy. This is all you need to know for the game:

Left Mouse = Mouse Turning
Right Mouse = Fire Selected Weapons
Tab = Afterburners
Q = Missiles
Shift + Q = Torpedoes
E = Mines
Shift + E = Cruise Disruptors
Shift + W = Cruise Engines
W = Speed Up
S = Speed Down
Z = Engine Kill (useful for flying past opponents and still being able to shoot them)
B = Tractor All Loot

That's it. Remember them and you'll survive in the MP world. That and F1 = Pause Menu

Eh, personally, I'm an afficionado of Freespace 2, whenever space sims are being talked about. I tried others, and they always disappointed me quite a lot...
What can I say, once you tried the best, there's hardly anything else... :\

Freelancer is not a space sim, so don't go into it expecting that, it is a fighting game. Though it does give a good illusion of being in space.....

I have freelancer, but i thought it stunk majorly, it was going to be the ting that tided me over until the release of X2: the threat but i had completed it with in a week and sold it a week later after getting bored with the mp.

I have scince gone back to X-Tension because of its superior graphics, far more freeform gameplay, and far more dynamic universe (and the ability to build stations and own as many ships as you want)

X-Tension has over a hundred systems, the sequel will have over 150 (or so ive heard) and the ability to pilot huge capital ships with turrets. After X2 will come X2OU (the massiveley multiplayer version) and it all looks set to replace the Elite series of games, and such freelancer into dust. IMHO of course

This is Commander Kale of the SS Vulpine sprit signing off

Just noticed this thread. It's been months since I last played Freelancer. With a level 12 ship and alien guns, and having beat the game and found all those weird outer edge systems, I probably won't play it anymore.  ':p'

Wanna go play the Mupltiplayer? You'll love it. I've heard a few secrets in the game like where the fifth sleeper ship is (I've seen it, sweet as heck) and the unknown systems. I've got a server I'm a regular to but I don't think I'd be able to help you at the start. I've been a baaaaaaad wolf. Only the Rouges, Outcasts, Hackers and Rheinland Military like me.

I was really looking forward to freelancer. Starlancer was great and though freelancer is kinda an unoficial sequel it does more or less continue the story.

The only problem I have with freelancer (and it ruined the game for me) was the travel system. The tradelanes are an atrocity, removing any real freedom to explore from the game. You just follow the boring preset flight path all the time because moving away from it is unbelievably slow '<img'>

That's the fun part. How many times have you left the trade lanes to explore an area of nebula? I do it regularly, and I reap the rewards. You can find shipwrecks where you can get kick-butt weapons. I even found an Unknown System by cruising through a nebula.

They did... its called X-Beyond the frontier and More recently X-Tension and coming to the uk in febuary X2: The threat, even if its not elite, its the closest you'll get, thier site is www.egosoft.com, and if you want to know about the ships (you can have the most massive fleets of anything from tiny scouts to carriers and destroyers) go to www.the-commander.com

Because its so unbelievably slow. If it was made more friendly then maybe there'd be some incentive to do it. I just get bored after 5 minutes of flying uneventfully in a straight line.

Go to www.lancersreactor.com and download the Freelancer Mod Manager. They've got mods for the cruise speed that makes it either double, triple or quadruple the normal speed. It also adds nice stuff like Buyable Battleships or Nomad fighters. TBH, the nomad ships are kinda, well, S**T!! They got no shields! I'll stick with my Titan ... if I still had the save game file. I hate reformatting.
