Post by: Benjamin on February 09, 2003, 10:41:05 pm
I've finally gotten to work on a drawing that I've owed to a furry friend for about a year and a half now. Anyways, to see this work in progress, click the link below...

I'll be filling in some of the final details and inking it sometime this week, I hope... so stay tuned for the progess on it. :)

It shows a lot of personality and expression.  I can't wait to check out the finished piece.  Keep up the good work.

Thanks, Son of Earth.
I'm hoping to sit down and finish this one soon. It's been waiting more than long enough for me to even have started it. (:

You're quite welcome.

Don't feel too badly.  I've started four different drawings, and I'm trying to figure out which one will I finish first. (:

That could do the trick. ;)

I'm losing it.  I'm going to add a 5th one, now.

No hope for me.

Heheh.
Well, have fun with it and all. Don't overwork yourself too much there. ;)

That's a really nice picture, Benjamin.  I wish I could give you some constructive words on it, but I'm not too good with art, myself.  Looking at it, I would say it's about finished already.  But I guess it depends on what you wish to add to it.  Nice one - keep it up.

Mainly, she needs some whiskers... and I'm going to ink it, too. I like it as it is, even without the whiskers, but am currently pondering my approach for inking it. The inking process can change the look of the artwork quite drastically, sometimes. Sometimes it's for the better, and sometimes it comes out a bit worse. (:

You could photocopy the picture and ink the copy you would still have the original  if possible ( im afraid my art ain't too hot either). But this is a nice picture anyway Benjamine. The little cub sort of looks a bit of a handfull ( must be something in that wild mane that says it). But as usual there is always mum too look out for him. Nice picture it speaks volumes. Hope you resolve the art block. If still in trouble will send you my muse it's been working on overdrive of late  :)  .

*chuckles*
That's actually a stuffed animal (plush) that she's got there, anyways. Heheh.
This pic is a drawing in someone's sketch book, so it won't do me any good to photocopy it and ink the copy. Besides, photocopier paper rarely holds up all that well to brushed ink. ;)

Not a problem, Bear Paw.
It's still a good suggestion, and some furs do work that way. Me, I prefer to build up one copy of my work at a time. ;)

I LOVE HER EYES!

Since I am still learning to create realistic eyes I am always in awe when I see them well done!

For me, I always re-sketch my original sketch and then I make copies to practice on. The re-sketch is the one that I actually colorize. That way, I never mess up the original sketch.

Thanks, Kada-Ru. :)

I find that the most important thing to making believable eyes is to give them a bit of a highlight to help reinforce the idea that the eyes have that glassy, shiny sort of effect to them. I'm usually very, very careful with eyes, since if you have believable eyes in a character, it adds all the more life to them. Shading and shaping the eyes right is generally easy, but a subtle highlight tends to really breathe life into them. :)
