Disney plans Zootopia themed park.
« on: January 28, 2019, 03:00:14 pm »
A Zootopia themed amusement park based on the hit animated film. How awesome! Only bad part is that it'll be in China instead of in the U.S..  :'(
But, I'm sure it'll at least have lots of furry animal character costumed performers.  ;)

They probably decided the park would be more popular in China.
I think it would have went over well. Perhaps they will have a
Zootopia land in one of their parks here.

Other than mascots at sports events, entertainment parks, and parades
costumed characters don't get much respect here. I have seen people
throw things at sports mascots, and otherwise harass them.

Costumed animal characters aren't as popular here as in other countries.
People like the movies of animated animals, but not so much in real life.
Not counting those of us in the fandom though.

Also, can you see the people in said costumers lasting more than a few minutes in the Florida head before dying of heat stroke? Do we have any fursuiters from there that can shed some light?

Well said, Rabbit.

And good point, Varg. I'm not from Florida, but I wonder if that location in China gets hot?

It would be cool to have something like that here in the States. Oh well! One can dream a bit!

Varg:  I don't remember where I read it, but several years ago, I remember reading that applicants wishing to be costume character performers at Disney theme parks had to be phyisically fit and go through a bunch of other tests. I'm pretty sure also there is a policy at Disney where every costumed character is to have a handler. You might not see this handler right next to the character, but they are no more than 10-20 feet away in case something ever happens. And due to Florida's summertime heat, those costumed characters would have ice vests on under the costume, be required to take occasional breaks, and probably only be in costume for certain periods/limits of time.

Shanghai in summer can get pretty warm - up to 90F, as well as being VERY humid - somewhere aroun 70-80%, IIRC. It's not going to be an easy time in those suits. Speaking form personal experience, it's hard enough just walking around in it with no extra clothing on.

You're right. It's not necessarily the temps that will be the deciding factor, but rather the humidity.

At a theme park, it probably goes without saying, but I hope they have good medial staff around in case of heat related issues.

That is a really cool idea.  I hope it is a test market and that it spills over to here.

Yeah, maybe Disney should have it here in my home state where its rather dry and cold in winter.   And if the guests are cold, well then, they get an animal themed jacket to help them blend in and not ruin the effect!

I would totally go for it, and would love to be another fox or wolf somewhere in the theme park!

If the Yak character isn't moth-invested and lacks a "stoned" expression, then I'd be most disappointed.
