Title: Problems with my site
Post by: Alexandre on December 29, 2007, 02:51:17 pm
Okay, I'm having a bit of a trouble getting my site a workin'.  I just barely started last week, and it seems that, although I can get things uploaded on the site, I can't view anything.  Perhaps it's just an erroneous lack of knowledge on my part, but I'd like a little help.

When I go to the site http://www.alexandre.furtopia.org, it shows the following:

The requested URL was not found on this server. If you entered the URL manually please check your spelling and try again.

If you think this is a server error, please contact the webmaster.

Error 404

Apache/2.2.4 (Win32) DAV/2 mod_ssl/2.2.4 OpenSSL/0.9.8e mod_autoindex_color PHP/5.2.2 mod_perl/2.0.3 Perl/v5.8.8

I have uploaded a file called index.html, yet it seems not to be able to detect anything.  The HTML file should read:

Quote
Hello! Welcome to my site!
Right now, I'm working on trying to get everything worked out correctly. I don't have a PhD in Web Design, so it might take a little while. I'll try to have my first update done on the 1st of January.

In the meantime, just look at other people's pretty web-sites. :)

~Alexandre~

I'm trying to get this to work correctly before I actually get my wed design done.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

~Alexandre~

This is not a normal 'index.html' file error.

Normally, if you don't have an index file of some sort you would see the directory.

I'm not hip on how they're doing their sites here, but it looks like something's not quite wiggled just right.  You might need to dig back into the docs to see if there's a button that didn't get pushed or a file that needs a new name.

Good luck to you!

Righty-oh.  I'll get a wigglin'.

Perhaps I should contact an administrator or mod to see what's goin' on.

But, Itico, thanks for the help!  :)

Sorry for the double-post.

I was looking at the upload page (on the FTP when I log in), and, at the top, it says the following:

Quote
Warning: preg_match() [function.preg-match]: Unknown modifier '-' in E:\webpages\artwork\webftp\fman\inc\functions on line 10

Warning: preg_replace() [function.preg-replace]: Unknown modifier 'g' in E:\webpages\artwork\webftp\fman\inc\functions on line 22

Warning: preg_replace() [function.preg-replace]: Unknown modifier 'g' in E:\webpages\artwork\webftp\fman\inc\functions on line 24

Warning: preg_replace() [function.preg-replace]: Unknown modifier 'g' in E:\webpages\artwork\webftp\fman\inc\functions on line 24

I don't know if that would be part of the problem or not.  I wanted to post just in case it is, and someone knows it.

Thanks, again, to those that are helping!  :D

Nocte is going to need some time to update his Upload program to PHP5.

In the mean time I suggest you give Filezilla a try: http://www.furtopia.org/tools/filezilla_2_1_5_setup.exe

It's VERY easy to use (like Windows Explorer) and a lot faster than updating with the web client.

it does that when my friend uploads as well but it doesn't mess up her uploads at all. Not sure why it does that though.

I'll second filezilla, it is faster.

Though I wish i could get the windows explorer web folders to work on my computer again. D:

Sounds good; I'll try using FileZilla.

Maybe this is completely ignorant of me, but I have absolutely no clue how to work this program.  I think that I could get along once I know how to get connected to Furtopia.  I understand that I need an address to do that.  What would be the address?  The User?  Is there a Password?

Or do you already have a page that shows all that info?  If so, can you tell me where it is?  That'd help a whole lot.  :D

Thanks for the help that you're already giving!  I'm still excited to get things working!  :)

Address: ftp.furtopia.org
Your username and password are the same ones as for the web interface.

Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It worked!!!!!

I am happy now.  I can start getting everything ready!  Thanks for the help, Itico, WhiteShephard, Mazz, and Richard K Niner!

It'll take a while to get everything ready (seeing how college is officially starting), but I suspect that after a week or two, it'll start to resemble a web page.  :D

Sorry... double post.

I was really happy.  I finally got my first update done, and I went to Filezilla, and... it can't find my directory.  I'm confused.  It hooks up alright, but it doesn't display the things that I uploaded last time, nor will it allow me to upload right now.  Is there any way to fix this?

Thanks!  :D

EDIT:  Umm... I got it to work.  It wasn't working through the internet connection I was using, so I switched to a different one (what a blessing to be at college where you're surrounded by 10).  :)

However, that's not always possible.  If there's a way around this, please, let me know.

Anyway, you can take a look at my site.  There's not much there yet, but it's started.  :D

The internet connection you were using may be using a restrictive firewall.  The fix is to go into Filezilla then go to Edit->Settings->Firewall settings and make sure "passive mode" is checked->click-OK and restart Filezilla. That should fix working under a restrictive ISP account.

It was a sure enough fix.  :D  Looks like I'm good to go.

Just another question (ha!  I always have another one :)); my site is not being displayed on any of the pages of Furtopia.org.  I don't have much as of yet (just a story and a poem), but I was wondering... is it going to appear on the Furtopia.org webpage listings?

Thanks again, WhiteShepherd!

when they add it I think. The staff gets behind. Send a PM to WS and he may update it quicker if it hasn't been added yet.
