So I was giving my boyfriend some drawing advice starting with the basics. I'm not a pro or the best by any means, but I know some tricks and did some streaming for him. The end result was this:
I start with a circle and then mark the front of the face with a vertical contour line and either the middle of the face or the eye-line with a horizontal line. For characters with muzzles, I use another shape, on the canine head I used a sphere, on the Procyons, which have short, flat muzzles, I used a second plane. On this second shape, I put a vertical contour line that matches the direction of the one on the main head shape. I then draw a line connecting the two. I've found this method to be a pretty easy and good way to draw muzzles and snouts from many directions, and also a good way to show the benefits of breaking things down into shapes and using guide lines.
