Title: A Song I Believe Applies to the Fandom
Post by: Sergalicious on August 12, 2013, 04:19:03 pm
so i like Dr horrible sing along blog and i was listening to "on the rise" and (to me) the lyrics apply greatly to the fandom

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQyNN2SfPwQ
can you see how it applies, also i find that a multiple songs from said movie applies to the fandom

i think this apples to it because NPH kind of talks about the dark side and the media attention but Felicia day talks about the good and bright side.
here they are:

*note there are 2 people singing
red:nph/H
blue: Felicia day/P

when it has the H:....
and                 P.....
it means it is simultaneous singing
Lyrics to On The Rise :
Any dolt with half a brain
Can see that humankind has gone insane
To the point where I don't know if I'll upset the status quo
If I throw poison in the watermain.

Listen close to everybody's heart
And hear that breaking sound
Hopes and dreams are shattering apart
And crashing to the ground

I cannot believe my eyes
How the world's filled with filth and lies
but it's plain to see evil inside of me
is on the rise.

Look around
We're living with the lost and found
Just when you feel you've almost drowned
You find yourself on solid ground

And you believe there's good in everybody's heart
Keep it safe and sound
With hope you can do your part
To turn a life around

I cannot believe my eyes
Is the world finally growing wise
Because it seems to me some kind of harmony
Is on the rise

H: Anyone with half a brain
P: Take it slow

H: Could spend their whole life howling in pain
P: He looks at me and seems to know

H: Because the dark is everywhere and
P: The things that I'm afraid to show

H: Penny doesn't seem to care that soon the dark in me is all that will remain
P: and suddenly I feel this glow

H: Listen close to everybody's heart
P: And I believe there's good in everybody's heart

H: and hear that breaking sound
P: keep it safe and sound

H: Hopes and dreams are shattering apart
P: With hope you can do your part

H: And crashing to the ground
P: To turn a life around

H: I cannot believe my eyes how the world's filled with filth and lies
P:I cannot believe my eyes how the world's finally growing wise

H: But it's plain to see evil inside of me is on the rise
P: And it's plain to see rapture inside of me is on the rise

also these part reflected how i felt when i found the fandom " brand new day"

"How I hesitated
Now I wonder why
It's a brand new day"

"so how can it be that you have shown me the light?

It's a brand new day
And the sun is high
All the birds are singing"

It's a brand new day
And the sun is high
All the birds are singing"

"...that you're gonna die"

You sure about that? :p

And the sun is high
All the birds are singing"

thats why i left out the last line i dont agree with the lat line, the rest of that verse does though, excepth the last one

"...that you're gonna die"

You sure about that? :p

i left the last line out for a reason. the rest of that one does though. if i were to include it it would be directed at my old life before the fandom if i included it. so it would be like im talking to my self before finding said fandom

i just realized that any song in this movie i could apply to the fandom.

dr horrible got everything he wanted, it only cost him a penny

That..is certainly one interpretation of the song, but I fail to see how it applies even remotely to the fandom.

The song is about conflicting emotions between two people. It's that simple and there really isn't any hidden meaning.

Billy is having trouble taking in that the girl of his dreams ended up with his arch-nemesis.
Penny is happy things are finally looking up.

im not saying it was made for the fandom or has any undertone meaning. and how it is only about conflicting emotions.
but the way i connect it to the fandom is this. its not so much about the fandom itself. but how i feel about when i joined or how i feel about it ie" Just when you feel you've almost drowned
You find yourself on solid ground" can represent how before finding the fandom my life was worse but when i found it i " found solid ground" and my life has changed for the better.

and from the NPH viewpoint it can be from a perspective of how the misconception of the fandom ie" How the world's filled with filth and lies " and it also represents the dark side of the fandom " but it's plain to see evil inside of me ".

now can you se sort of where i'm coming from?

I..think I see where you're coming from, but it quite obviously means "But it's plain to see evil inside of me is on the rise" means "I'm becoming more evil because Felicia Day went for Nathan Filion over me."

with the "But it's plain to see evil inside of me" it just represents the dark side. as if the actual intention of the song did not exist and was just for however you wanted to interpret it. and in that case the " evil" is the dark side of the fandom. to help See this. sort of separate the song from the movie so it is just a song with no relation to to a movie so there is no right way. but in reality there is but if you see it as separate then that might help you see my perspective ( if i make any sense)

You can't really do that with a musical...

You can take lyrics about one thing and apply them to others, but I think you just ~reeeally~ like Dr Horribles Sing Along Blog. Which is fine, because it's nothing short of amazing. :p
