I'm sure a computer-smart guy like you would have thought of this already, but double-check if there are any Firefox plugins that might be messing with it.  You just never know.  I once had a plugin interfere with loading certain pages, but I can't remember its name.  It wasn't any kind of styles or content-affecting plugin, though, so that's why it stuck out in my mind.

none of my plugins are affecting it as far as I was able to determine. I could probably fix the page with firebug, but that would be a real hassle if I had to do it every time I post.

Soo... I'm running latest released builds of Firefox and everything works just fine.  Are you running released builds,  or running Beta versions?  Have you tried another browser?
