Title: Holiday greetings
Post by: Kobuk on December 18, 2018, 04:55:48 pm
Which holiday greeting do you most often use/say during Christmas time?

For me, I'll most often say Merry Christmas. I don't go out of my way to say something more "politically correct" unless I feel the need to. Saying Merry Christmas is what I was born and raised to say. So if somebody doesn't like it and gets offended by it, then too bad.

I don't say anything first if I can help it. If someone says something to me, I will repeat the same thing. If I have to say something first then I will say happy holidays. Because other winter holidays than Christmas do exist.

Merry Christmas unless I know the person's religion otherwise. Likewise I'm not offended if someone wishes me a happy Hannukah or likewise.

what he said.
I generally see it as a time to just increase friendliness and be kind.  call the holiday what you want, so long as it is a positive thing in your life.
one of my sisters is Wiccan, and I think she has some holiday that is not Christmas, and she is fine with it.  So I am therefore fine with her being fine with it.

I usually say Merry Christmas. As others have said, it was how I was taught growing up. I respect other peoples religions and thoughts and if they want to use some other phrase, I'm ok with that and I don't push "my" way. Like Jade said, the holidays are a time to increase friendliness and be kind.

I tend to say Happy Holidays or Happy Winter Solstice....as an instructor I have to be open to people from all walks of life, of varying religions and creeds, and saying Happy Holidays has been my preference for years. One of my childhood friends was Jewish and a few friends in college were Muslim...and I dabble in reading about witchcraft, so...I see no harm in being inclusive during the winter months. :3

I use Happy Holidays when I am online.

RL I usually say Merry Christmas.

Reason being when online I am posting to a group. RL it's usually just
one on one.
