Well, I was running around online and applied to another furry forum. Werenet. I'm sure that a few of ya have heard abot this place. Great place on IRC but the forums are another thing. I'll say this right here and now. I am not Complaining! So No need to flame me or anything.

Just saying that after going through the rules and getting fried on my first words, They have much stricter rules over there then over here. Would be sorta like compareing a preschool to boot camp. With this exprince in mind, I'm glad the Furtopia is around. As it is a great place for the new furs and peeps to join the fandom. Were.net sorta discourages this. The rules aren't as strict and newbie bashing, the atmosphere is friendlier, and the admins aren't worn out tired of no nonsence furs. This is a great place for the new people to come, while were.net is more for the.. veteren forum goers whom aren't offended as much.

So With that all said. I'm glad that Furtopia can be a friendly and careing place for everyone, and is pretty much a safe haven from some of the more..... stricter rules of the world.

Lets hear it for Furtopia!

Okay... I'm editing this with a disclaimer that to anyone whom is therian and does visit, This post was made BEFORE I learned of some many diffrences between the furry and therian communities, so what I say here is not accurate to actual working and my current understandings.

Thanks, Jadnar.
Every board out there has it's own personality, really. It depends on the people that sign in and chat on the board, but yeah... it also depends upon the leniency of the administrators. There're certain rules that can't be broken, but some others that can be fudged with a bit.
The furry community is a bit different from the were community, which is probably part of the problem that you stumbled across at that site. Some people in the were community have no tolerance for furries, for various reasons. Some of them, within the were community, also think they have all the answers regarding shapeshifting and whatnot.... and some are rather adamant about it all, discussing their theories and viciously defending those same theories when they fall apart. I know a were or two that prefer to hang around with furs since furs are easier to get along with and more laid back.
I'm glad that you find this board to be such a comfortable venue at which to chat and such. '<img'>

Now there is an aspect that I haven't heard of before. Were's and Furs are two diffrent things? I always figured the two were synonyms. Could you explain the diffrence regarding them?

Never knew there was a wall of sorts, much less sects within the fandom.

Yeah, they tend to be different fandoms altogether, with their own distinctions.
Weres tend to concentrate on shapeshifting, like werecreatures tend to do, yet furry characters are usually their shaggy selves 24/7. Weres wrap themselves up specifically in the folklore of werecreatures, and some believe they can physically or mentally shift into an animal form. From what I've seen, a lot of weres tend to take it very seriously.
Furs, on the other paw, tend to be a bit less serious. Some are just a fan or consumer and have no particular animal of favor. Well... you know what the furry fandom's like. It has a wide range of people in it.
We furs tend to meet at gatherings, conventions, and so on. Weres call their meets "howls" and I don't think they have anywhere near the same sort of turnout as furry cons do. They're rather small in comparison, I'm sure. Were meets tend to be done in natural areas, so I understand, whereas furs are usually quite domesticated in comparison.
I suppose weres are just more specific than furs, but yeah... it is a seperate fandom in many ways, with it's own set of social norms and whatnot. I've noticed that some weres have a fair bit of resentment for the furry fandom, too. I suppose you could thank the silly stuff and yiff aspects of furry for that.

That would definatly explain the totally diffrent views that I see between these two boards. There is alot of talk about shifting and such at Were.net Be it in IRC or in the boards its self.

I never really realized the diffrent attitudes before. I just thought it was just a diffrent place with diffrent people, with a different history. Just as Furtopia is it's own thing. Like little villages. Same sort of people, just diffrent lifestyles and the sort. if ya know what I mean. I think it's the horsey in me showing, lol. Me skull is so thick I can't think.

I'm rather glad I'm not on the serious end. That isn't really alot of fun. Just over the few days at were.net struck me as rather dull. Not as fun, nor open. Very restrictive and the sort. *Shrugs*

Aw well. Thanks for explaining that. I'm pretty sure that there are others that probubly hadn't realized this before. Very useful info. ^_^

Thank you for the compliment on Furtopia Forums, Jadnar. I mainly have only been here and then after being here joined Furry.basil but haven't been there of late. I don't speak portuguese. But, it is interesting there. They are laid back like here too and very friendly as well.

I haven't been to any other forums.

The users I've attracted over at the furry.ca forum tend to be pretty good, too. It's had some trolls at it on the odd occasion, but those folks tend to get scared away or banned by me rather quickly. ':p'

This forum is definitely one of the friendliest and supportive I've seen.  I've spent time on a musician's forum, and some of the posts would turn down right nasty and personal.

The Furcadia forum is usually fairly tame, but every once in a while a hot topic comes up that has everyone up and arms and screaming at each other.

Every board has it's ups and downs, at least.
It can be pretty difficult when you have an artist board. Sometimes the most well-intentioned criticisms get taken the wrong way, and things just boil out of control for a bit. It's bound to happen on occasion when you have so many open discussions regularly available for input.

Ahh yes, I have been on afew forums and none compair to the quality and friendship here. I say lets keep it a tight knit group and keep the rules and strictness just how they are. Its perfect and friendly.

The biggest problem I have seen in boards are children really...both the sorts to invite illegal sexual favors via request on boards or those looking to cause trouble within the Furrie communities. Ofcourse the occasional flame and such is disreguarded as anything truely hostile and endangering. After all...people have bad days dont they?

Regarding flames, it depends upon the situation. We are mostly adults here, and should know better than to pass the bad feelings along to people that don't deserve it. Plus, flaming in a public place is generally unwise since we don't really want to see peoples' dirty laundry chucked all about. It's generally a rather impolite thing to do to fellow humans and whatnot.

Anyways... We currently have no reason to change our policies regarding abuse, as it is. The current set has been working decently for quite some time now, and also in a similar form on an older board that I run.

ive been through a few boards and a muck here and there but i never felt comfortable enough to really voice anything, even though i kinda keep to my thread in the poetry corner (which everyone ought to read ~cough shameless plug cough~ ) i know i dont have to worry about being flamed or bashed for being a lurker or not posting enough or what ever. this is a great place to just kinda hang and read and meet new like minded folks, if only virtualy.i want to say thanks to everyone for making it that way. but i probably deserve a flame for the shamelss plug tho,  ''
Or i could be wrong, its been known to happen,     a lot,       (headhang and sigh).

I must admit compared to the UKfurry forum this place is a hive of activety and of intrest. Not too come down on the UK net but it seems that there are only one or two poeple that really talk and the conversations are quite closed too new people. But most are freindly enough. It does seem to be opening up more though so there may be hope yet. Three cheers for Furtopia.

The users here are what define much of the content and attitude here, so everyone deserves some congrats for making this community a pleasant and successful one. I'm just glad that everyone's so well behaved as well, so we don't have to be cracking down on anyone and dropping the general mood of the place. '<img'>
As for the UK furry board, I guess some of the furs there are just shy about using boards or something. I have a bunch of UK furs that are regulars over on the furry.ca forum, and they love it there. Canada's a long way from the UK... but at least we're still part of the commonwealth. '<img'>
