Therians!
« on: January 28, 2016, 02:02:24 pm »
I haven't seen any posts for/about therians, so I thought I'd make one. I was born a therian, as I have always felt that I am a canine trapped in a human body. However, it took me a while to figure out that I'm an Arabian wolf specifically. I don't "shift" into it, either, I just always feel this way. Also, I have phantom ears, tail, & muzzle.

There are posts/threads, but it isn't much, and you'd have to do some searching to find them and read them........but don't gravedig them. People do tend to talk about therians from time to time, but like I said, it ain't much. There's kinda like a "love/hate" relationship so to speak between furries and therians.

I think I've heard of them under another name, actually; Not to be rude here, but are you sure you don't mean otherkin? The phantom animal parts and all? I've never really heard of therians before, but I sure have heard of otherkin, and I'm pretty positive that if these two cultures aren't one and the same, they might be sister cultures. I'm not trying to knock your beliefs or anything, I'm just giving what I think is true.

I have heard from a Therian I know that therians are basically animals from what may as well be called "our world" AKA the "real" world, while otherkin can include dragons, elves, and so on.  An otherkin I met told me that therians are basically otherkin who stick to our-world animals, and an otherkin might be something like a dragon, but they aren't limited to that.  I think there's probably more than one definition out there, but there seems to be some consistency: therians identify as animals that you might see walking around on Earth.

In my experience, that is pretty much correct.

The general stance is that therians are those with similar thoughts, beliefs, and experiences such as totems, guides, reincarnation, phantom shifts/sensations, dreams, etc. regarding earthly animals, which can range from casual conceptualization, to solid defining beliefs.

There are also some therians out there that go to extremes and insist that they actually are (not just feel like they are or were, but insist they literally are) a certain animal, making claims of physical shifts, or even having special powers, abilities, etc.
The majority of therians regard such things as "fluff", and don't take such individuals very seriously at all.

Otherkin to my understanding is basically the same thing with the same stances, only involving mythical and otherworldly creatures and entities.

Good to see other therians. I'm kind of an unconventional therian, I believe that my wolf is a part of my and I can use his power. And I do NOT do spells.

Never considered myself as a therian or even questioning it.

I just think it's a very interesting topic.

Feeling therian is
difficult to explain
hard to accept
impossible to rationalise

maybe that is why each time therianthropy is brought up in a forum, the posts always revolve around:

non-therians debating therianthropy, as if they were the experts on the topic
and
therians going "thank God I'm not the only one !"

Though most of my life I have enjoyed stories of fantasy about animals and
mythological creatures. I can't claim to be a Tharian or otherkin. If I was to
choose it would likely be more towards otherkin since I like ideas about magic
shapeshifting, and mythology. Dragons, centaurs, elves, fairies, wood nymps,
pan, and all. I think I would like to live in a world populated with uch creatures.
Perhaps even as one myself.

Of course what one imagines often isn't as enjoyable as one might think. So
dreams are probably best. :orbunny:

I go back and forth. I identified strongly with my previous fursona, which was a red fox. But now that it's a kitsune, I keep it distinct from me as a person.

Then soft as shadows we'll become.
