I think someone should do the same to him....that hideous beast! It makes me so mad....*Ecco SMASH!!!!*
[sarcasm] oh...he's such a real man! Wow....shooting little animals....he must be such a tough man! [/sarcasm]
I swear...if I ever met someone like that...I'd kick them in the meat and two veggies...then stand over them and laugh....and point....then do it a few more times.

I really don't see the sence in having a dead pet being stuffed and set up for display... I think it would be nicer to give it a proper barrial. I mean if they think the animal that much, it mised well be family right? Okay, going from that.... how would you like your great grandmother sitting on the mantal? I mean... we are animals too. *shudder* Ya, okay scary thought..

Jadnar, there was actually this one school that had its founding member stuffed in a sitting position and had him for display in the middle of the main hall. ':.';; Very creepy.

That's rather demented, yeah.
It's like another form of mummification, in a way, but it's still twisted that the person gets put on display and all. Ick.

Yeah, they basically did that with Lennin... against his will. I'm not sure if it was exactly the same process as most taxidermists would use, but it must have been fairly similar. They had something about that on television recently, but I didn't manage to watch it. It was a mummification-like process, I'm sure.

I saw that programme.  It was on TLC.  It was about the top 10 mummies in the world.  Lenin was in the top 5.  If I remember, his body has to be bathed in some kind of chemical soup every 1 or 2 years to keep him from decomposing.  The Russian government wanted to bury him normally, but the people raised a stink about keeping him preserved.  Why anyone would want to preserve a murderer is beyond me. i think all taxidermists shud be killed. i dont see why we have the right to do that to other creatures but wen we do it to a human its bad. its basically killing one of your own kind. were all animals, just humans are more advanced. anyways taxidermy is mean i wanna kill them and stuff them see how they like it!!! grrrrrr

Hmm.... I don't think killing them will really get it in their heads. Genocide won't work either, It is a proffesion, not a species.

How we humans work is quite an enigma. But there really isn't anything to do about it, really. Can try and protest, but even then, it won't thwart others from doing it.

Sickening.Taxidermy is a useless profession. All it does is defile the corpses of once beautiful animals.Seeing a bear stuffed and mounted in one's living room doesn't make me admire said person.Instead it lets me know that the person in question is a gutless coward who hides behind a gun and murders his fellow beings for "sport".

I agree that it does seem to be a rather dated profession. It used to have educational purposes, but with high quality zoos and whatnot being more common, and television and photographic publications being such high quality... it makes taxidermy a rather passé tool.

We humans can be quite inventive in our cruelty.

Things we would consider cruel exist in the animal world also.  If I remember correctly, male lions have been known to kill their newborns to get the females to mate again.

Some furs have this idea that if real furs existed and ran the world that it would be a much better place.  I submit it would be basically the same as it is today.  We are animals, and animals kill one an another over turf wars, mating fights, etc... More intelligence just lets us think of more effective and creative ways to do this, and makes it harder to sometimes see the base desires driving us to do it.

Male lions will kill newborns sired by other males, likely from the previous coalition that was affiliated with that pride. It's a waste of their time to put all that energy into protecting another male's young, so whatever cubs are around when a takeover is made tend to get killed. The lionesses usually go into estrus again soon after that happens, so the whole breeding thing starts over again.

I'm a bit confused about the issue of taxidermy.

On the one hand it seems grotesque, but on the other...  People have used animal skins in clothing for generations. In addition to being covering, clothes are also decoration. Where do we cross the line?

Okay... I think its safe to say thats someplace on the other side of line.  ':p'

Well, Clothing is considered a nessisity by many.

This form of taxidermy is mostly for the sport of it, and or for the decoration of one's home. Neither are required of us. Cloathing provides us protection from the elements, such as wind, cold, rain, snow, yadda yadda. We can now make synthetic fibers, and use cotten. Animal leather is more along the lines of luxary, which in my mind isn't wholey needed.

If it is needed, and used for the purpose that you require of it, then it is okay. If you do it just for the heck of it. Well, refer to Ecco's post at the top of this segment of the thread. *chuckles*

Blarg, at this mall in TN (Opry Mills), there's this store called Outdoor World where they sell hunting as well as other sporting goods like hiking gear.

They also have a mess of stuffed creatures scattered throughout the store. It makes me sad having to walk through there all the time just to get to the rest of the mall.

That's kinda my point.

I mean, with all the other options we have today, it makes the fact of clothing as a necessity seem insignificant.

Though cow leather really doesn't bother me because the cattle are used of beef anyway. And I don't plan on giving up hamburgers anytime soon. '<img'>

*mumbles to self* ...if leather is ok then a stuffed cow is... eww.

Leather still provides more protection than most synthetic material for certain applications.  I've done some motorcycle racing and leather racing suits are required because they provide more protection than their synthetic equivalents.

Now my road riding gear is synthetic.  You haven't experienced hot until your under the sun in a thick leather full body racing suit.   ':p'  Also the degree of protection provided by leather isn't needed on the road.

And I hate to admit it, my racing gloves are actually kangaroo leather.  It's tougher and provides more protection than cow leather.

People that do those things like that E-Bay posting simply has no soul . They are just one of the many sad and flawed rejects of human society. it is sad to see that stuff, and the greed for money that drives these people to do these things.

ok, the main thing on this that i wish to know is thus; HOW did the bobcat die?  merely seeing it's body on sale doesnt bother me much, but not knowing exactly how it died DOES.

if the bobcat was just naturally... dead when found, i'll go against the harsh words by saying i care not, use the fur for what you will; in my beliefs the spirit inside is already far away by the time the body is picked up.

however if it was hunted for sport and looks and whatnot... then the hunter deserves a 1-way trip to Tranqulity bay, Jamaica (nasty place, reminiscent of a concentration camp)
