Forum Condensing

Ok I admit I only skimmed the topics in this forum so there may already be a topic like this one. But anyway.

I think we should merge some of the forums.

I, personally, only check about three or four differant forums on a regular basis. Even with a high speed connection it can be tiresome trying to hop from one forum to the next, plus some forums just don't interest me enough for me to check them routinely. However if some of these more idol forums were merged with the larger ones, I might see, and click on topics that I would not ordinarily have clicked on because they would have otherwise been in a forum I don't check.

Furthermore, it was brought up that we should have a non-furry art forum. I myself would love to post some of my non-furry art, but I do not, because I know if I put them in the Sharing and Artistry forum, no one will see them.

I think however if some of the forums were merged, others like me would be more inclined to check those, now larger, forums.

My suggestion is that we merge the Furry Lite, Furries on Furry, and Lifestylers forums with the General Furry Discussion. And we merge the Singers Groove, Photography, and Poetry Corner with the Sharing and Artistry forum.

It's not that I dislike these forums. In fact, I think I would post more on topics that apply to these forums, if they were all lumped into one convient group.

Well, at least there's one other fur here who shares my interest in cutting back the forums. Though, I did mention just such a suggestion a few months back here: V

I agree, there need to be less forums in general.

I thought of the following setup for the forums:

Announcements:
- Administerial Roars and Woofs

No change needed.

General Furry Discussion:
- General Furry Discussion
- Furry Greetings
- Convention Talk
- Furries on Furry*
- Furry Lite (external links, humour, etc.)
- Polling Booth

Because thoughts on what furry means is inclusive to lifestylers, the two should probably be merged.

Not-So-Furry Discussion
- General Non-Furry Discussion
- Life Problems and Help

These forums can't be underscored more. They're very important to the survival of the community as a whole I think.

Furry Arts Discussion:
- Artwork
- Prose and Poetry
- Fursuiting
- Photography
- Music

One forum per medium. Techniques and sharing in that particular medium are on-topic.

Artist Discussions:
Remain as is.

Community Services:
Remain as is.

Furry Games and Gaming Discussions
- Furry Gaming
- Roleplay
- Word Games

Probably the only forum on which I'd encourage a split. Remove "Specific Games" for now. All of the roleplays are dead as it is, and it's nothing that a topic in the roleplay forum can't fix.

Technical Support:
Leave as is.

The basement:
Leave as it. We need a sandbox right? '<img'>

I always just hit the "New Posts" at the top. Shows new topics and such, and when you're done, go back to the forum list, and click "Mark all topics as being old", which then resets it.

I'm not sure about the other sections, but I think artwork announcements and artwork techniques should remain split. Enough new arkwork gets posted that it would quickly bury any technique threads.

There're always two different schools of thought regarding the layout of forums here. Some want more, some want fewer. We sort of have to work out a balance on the matter here, really.

I second that. We should just leave things the way they are.

Condensed  forums would be an advantage. I said.

I like how things are now, with two exceptions:

1. When the general non-furry discussion board and furry lite board were created, it drew off a lot of the general furry discussion board's traffic.  The general furry discussion board can probably absorb the convention talk board, as neither of them gets a whole lot of traffic and con talk definitely fits into 'serious' furry discussion.

2. I've always thought the Sharing & Artistry board was just redundant.
   Now,
       let's go play, together...
Together under the
             clearest of blue skies.

Here's a vote for more forums, or at least holding the same number of forums. One of the reasons I was interested Furtopia in the first place is because of the amazing depth of forums here. Every other BBS is no more than 10 or so. This place is amazing /because/ of its numbers of forums. It's akin to the excitement of a big city. There's nooks and crannies to explore. Fun!

However, if you're not into exploring, there's always the new posts button, just like Brown Leopard said.
