Finding the 'trash' icon
« on: January 08, 2007, 11:07:16 pm »
In the file management, where are the pencil and trash icons?  I made some really ugly mistakes I need to fix, but I find I can't.  I keep making it worse by trying to pile on new directory names.  It's a brand new web page for me, and I haven't been able to upload any art yet since it's a big mess. ':blush:'

Hi Saber, One of our Techs or admin will be with you ASAP. WS is the admin but Rl has kept him away for a bit. You may need to contact Nocte.

What are you using to upload with?  Filezilla or something else?

I'm actually just going into the file management itself.  I'm not using anything special.  From my main page that says Help! up on the left hand corner, I go to UPLOAD and just do everything manually from there.  Do I need something special to make corrections?

I think I can help, but I'll need to know a little more. '<img'>
The upload button leads to two different systems for managing your files, which one are you using?
What is the name of your web accout?
And what are you trying to do exactly?

My upload button goes to the log in, then it goes to the artistsworld file management.  Is that different from the furtopia one?

aw_gunmetalfirestar.

I'm trying to delete the files.  I want to re-arrange a few things.  I don't have the option of editing at all.  It says there's a trash icon and a pencil icon, and it says you can move categories, but all I'm able to do is create new files. ':blush:'

I think you only have created some categories thus far, and you haven't uploaded any actual files.  Unfortunately, you can't edit categories like that.  (Yet; I'd like to add that feature sometime.)

If you really need to rename categories, you'll need to install FileZilla (I don't think the other web-based interface of Furtopia is available for Artists World).  Depending on what you have in mind, you can also start uploading files and leave some directories empty.

Adding edit options to the categories would be VERY helpful!  Maybe you should get on that...

Anyway, I downloaded filezilla, but I can't figure out how to use it.  It also asks for my server, which I have no clue what that is.

And I ran into another problem.  I mistakenly clicked on 'view as web page' on one of the categories I didn't want to.  I'm all tangled.  HELP!  Can I get rid of them, at least???  I don't want to put any art up until I get around it.

Your server would be "artistsworld.org".

The "view as web page" button doesn't change anything; instead, it's just a link to that directory.  So for example, if you are in "Drawings", it is a link to http://gunmetal.artistsworld.com/Drawings/

Depending on what you want to have, it might not even be necessary to use FileZilla.  What do you have in mind for your web page?

The primary categories I'd like to have are an adult section, and a general section as the first two links people see so it's cut and clear.  In each category, I'd like drawings/colored drawings, and so on.

Alright, first you'll have to put a file in the top directory.  Open up Notepad, and save this bit to a file named index.html :

Code Sample

<html><head><title>Gunmetal's art</title></head>
<body>
<h1>Pick a category</h1>
<p>
<a href="Non-Adult/">General</a>
</p>
<p>
<a href="Adult/">Adult</a> (you must be of legal age to enter here)
</p>
</body></html>

You can then upload the file.  Because it's named index.html, it will be shown instead of the automatic index. You won't see the other categories you created (such as Drawings to Date, Shady Gaze, etc) anymore, just the links to Adult and Non-Adult.

The final step is uploading your art in Adult and Non-Adult.  (And of course, if you'd like to have more categories inside Adult and Non-Adult, you can create them.)

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! '<img'>

Now, how do I add in the extra categories and upload art into them?  I get to a page that says PICK A CATEGORY, and it goes right to the categories and directories page, but it doesn't give me any options.  Do I have to make any HTML?

No, you can still use http://webftp.artistsworld.org/ for that.  You had already created the categories Adult and Non-Adult earlier, so you can still see them in the list of categories.

If you click their names, you'll see an empty list of sub-categories, and an empty list of files.  There you can upload files, or create more categories inside Adult / Non-Adult.
