VLC media player (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html) should be able to play them.

VLC is free. If it is asking for a card then something is amiss.

For reference, the official VLC site is https://www.videolan.org/vlc/ (https://www.videolan.org/vlc/)

Don't download it from anywhere else.

Perhaps your web browser itself needs updated. It may be a good idea to check that as well. It could also be your software. If your computer is old the software may be out of date. Unable to play newer video formats.

The only place on the VideoLAN website that would ask for a credit card is the donation page.
Besides that the software is completely free and donations are optional, no credit card is needed.

VLC is a good option, and totally free if you download it at the VideoLAN website.  Another good freebie that I prefer to VLC is Media Player Classic HomeCinema.  It looks like an old version, but its new and updated, and it plays anything.  Free too.   https://mpc-hc.org/
